New Music from Broadway’s Frozen Will Debut in Late February

Love is an open door… to brand-new music you just have to hear! Disney Theatrical Productions’ Frozen is set to begin previews at Broadway’s St. James Theatre on February 22—and just one day later, the first of several new songs from the show will be released online at FrozenTheMusical.com and wherever music is sold or streamed.

As announced at the recent BroadwayCon in New York City by Frozen songwriters (and recent Oscar® nominees) Robert Lopez and Kristin Anderson-Lopez, four ditties written especially for the much-anticipated Broadway show will debut on consecutive Fridays beginning February 23. Fans can expect to fall in love with “Monster,” a new Act Two solo for Elsa; “What Do You Know About Love?,” a new duet for Anna and Kristoff; “Dangerous to Dream,” a new interior monologue sung by Elsa; and “True Love,” a new Act Two solo for Anna. The songs will be recorded by the Broadway cast, featuring Caissie Levy (Elsa), Patti Murin (Anna), and Jelani Alladin (Kristoff).

For all the news that’s fit for frosty print, follow Frozen on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and at FrozenTheMusical.com—and make sure to keep your eyes peeled here at D23.com for updates as opening night grows near.

Celebrate Peter Pan’s 65th with Disney PhotoPass at Magic Kingdom Park

Walt Disney’s animated classic Peter Pan celebrates its incredible 65th anniversary on February 5… and if you’re heading down to Walt Disney World Resort in the next week, you’ll be pleased to learn there’s a very special way guests can help honor the occasion!

From February 4 through 10, Disney PhotoPass Service at the Magic Kingdom will salute all things “second star to the right” throughout the park. For instance, Captain Hook and his sidekick Mr. Smee will come ashore to meet guests in Fantasyland intermittently from 9 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Plus, the PhotoPass photographer next to the Captain Hook and Mr. Smee Character Experience will offer up some extra magic in the form of locating Peter’s wily shadow for a few nifty shots.

Looking for some pics with a little extra pixie dust? Visit the photographer on the bridge next to Sleepy Hollow Refreshments to bring out your “inner fairy,” or have the most famous fairy of them all appear in your photo when you visit a photographer on Main Street, U.S.A. And over by the Partners Statue in front of Cinderella Castle, the PhotoPass photog will have a fun Peter Pan-related prop to include in your snaps. “Off to Never Land!”

star wars galactic nights

Star Wars: Galactic Nights Returns This May

Speaking of Walt Disney World Resort, an amazing event is returning to Disney’s Hollywood Studios—and we think you’ll definitely want to mark your calendars. Star Wars: Galactic Nights, a one-night-only special event, is coming back on May 27… and it’s a must for any fan of “a galaxy far, far away.”

For the uninitiated, Star Wars: Galactic Nights is an electrifying Star Wars-themed event held after park hours from 7 p.m.-midnight, and it celebrates the entire Star Wars saga with incredible entertainment, special photo opportunities, event-exclusive merchandise and food/beverage offerings, as well as encounters with rarely seen characters that guests can only experience during the event. Expect Star Wars projections to transform the Hollywood Tower Hotel with fave film moments, special effects, and amazing music—all night long. Additionally, the park’s existing Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks and the Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away stage show will both include new saga elements for the very first time. Plus, select attractions will be open to all guests—and some may even offer a special Star Wars twist on May 27 only. How can you go wrong?!
Stay tuned for more info, including ticket on-sale dates, about Star Wars: Galactic Nights as the event approaches.

news briefs wreck-it ralph inside out

Inside Out and Wreck-It Ralph Coming to ABC

Animation fans, listen up: Two of Disney’s recent hits are coming to ABC in just a few weeks!

Making its broadcast TV debut on Wednesday, February 7, at 8 p.m. ET is 2015’s Oscar® winner Inside Out, directed by Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up). The film goes inside the mind of 11-year-old Riley; in her “control center”—called Headquarters—five Emotions are hard at work, led by lighthearted optimist Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (voice of Bill Hader) heads up safety; Anger (voice of Lewis Black) ensures all is fair; and Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned—both physically and socially. Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else. When Riley’s family relocates to a scary new city, the Emotions are on the job, eager to help guide her through this bewildering transition…

Later in the month, ABC will feature 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph—a perfect way to get in the (early) mood for the film’s sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, coming to theaters this November. Arcade character Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day, for years. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade—through multiple generations of video games—to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero. Also featuring Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz, Wreck-It Ralph airs on Friday, February 16, at 8 p.m. EST.

Our Fantasy Disney Football Dream Team

By Megan Deppe

From first down to touchdown, there’s nothing quite like gathering in front of the TV with endless snacks to watch two football teams battle it out for the ultimate title. While we’re pondering our pick for the big game title, we can’t help but think about what a Disney football team might look like. We’ve gone through the roster to find Disney’s top draft picks, and we think we’ve put together the perfect football team. We’re going to call it… the Disney Dream Team!

disney fantasy football

1. Hercules (Hercules)
Hercules has the muscles to be a force on the field, but that’s not the only way he’ll help a team to victory. He has got a massive heart that will surely come in handy when someone on his team is getting run down. Herc will never give up on improving himself, so you can bet he’ll be watching the game tape every week to continue to upgrade his skills.

disney fantasy football

2. Poe Dameron (Star Wars: The Last Jedi)
When Poe decides to do something, he goes all the way. Poe’s confidence might sometimes border on overconfidence, but he has learned to recognize his limits: If he can pull off the crazy maneuver, he will; but if he can’t, he won’t risk his team’s well-being. With a talent for delivering an inspiring speech and leading a team to victory, Poe might just have our vote for Team Captain!

disney fantasy football

3. Donald Duck
Though he may want to learn to watch his temper, Donald is definitely someone you want guarding your ball. When Donald sets a goal for himself, he gives it his full 100 percent, and his temper tantrums could even help him overcome certain large obstacles (like another team’s huge linebacker).

disney fantasy football

4. Valkyrie (Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok)
Valkyrie is a fighter who can stand toe-to-toe with the God of Thunder and the Hulk himself—she can easily handle getting a football down the field. A team player, first as part of an elite fighting force of women and later as a member of Thor’s squad of “Revengers,” Valkyrie isn’t one to just let the opposing team run her over – she will use every ounce of her strength to make sure that her team ends up on top.

disney fantasy football

5. Dash (The Incredibles)
Dash, GO LONG! After seeing the little speedster play catch with his dad, we knew we needed to include him as the Disney Dream Team’s ace in the hole. Dash’s speed would allow him to slip past the enemy team almost immediately, then he could camp out in the end zone until someone throws the ball his way. Easy touchdown!

disney fantasy football

6. Sulley (Monsters, Inc.)
Sulley didn’t play football at his alma mater, Monsters University, but he definitely has the right spirit for our Disney Dream Team. He knows how to have a good time, and he’s come to appreciate the benefit of hard work and perseverance through his time in the mailroom and as a top Scarer—not to mention the fact that we already know he looks great in letterman gear!

disney fantasy football

7. Moana (Moana)
Moana isn’t big, that’s true, but she’s more than proved her worth on the field with that arm of hers. She’s been slinging around coconuts on her island for years, and she chucks her spear with great accuracy while battling the Kakamora. If you need to get the football in the end zone, Moana is your girl.

disney fantasy football

8. Pocahontas (Pocahontas)
Pocahontas is not only a great runner, but she has the will and determination to figure how to come back from any tough situation. Pocahontas will work with her teammates to determine the best course of action, by listening to her heart and following the right path—even if it’s not the easy one.

disney fantasy football

9. Jay (Descendants)
Though Tourney isn’t quite the same as football, Jay has a fair amount of experience playing on a sports team. He’s become adept at recognizing the strengths of his teammates and making sure they play to their best ability. Whether he’s got the ball or he’s guarding the person who does, Jay will make sure that the Disney Dream Team secures the win.

disney fantasy football

10. Ralph (Wreck-It Ralph)
Ralph may be a little bit clumsy, but he makes up for that with plenty of heart. The “villain” may have a bit of a temper, but that will only benefit his team when he blocks the opponents from tackling. He can also cause the ground to shake when he runs, knocking folks (though hopefully not the Dream Team!) off their feet!

disney fantasy football

11. Kida (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)
Kida has grown up as a warrior, so she’s sure not about to lose a game to a bunch of football players. Kida is forceful, with a very curious spirit. She would definitely be the person asking the coach hundreds of questions about each play in order to learn exactly how to run it and give her team the best chance of winning.

disney fantasy football

12. Coach: Chief Bogo (Zootopia)
Every team needs a coach to inspire them and we can think of no one better than Zootopia’s gruff Chief of Police, Chief Bogo! The tough cape buffalo has the stature of a team leader—with 2,000 pounds of attitude!—and his tough demeanor will keep the team focused on winning the game.

8 of Our Favorite Almost-Hidden Gems from Mickey’s Toontown

By Megan Deppe

Tucked inside “The Happiest Place on Earth” is Mickey’s Toontown, a wacky, fun-filled metropolis that is home to Mickey, Minnie, and all of their friends. As the town celebrates its 25th anniversary, we take a look at all the zany details, whimsical designs, and laugh-out-loud gags that make Mickey’s Toontown such a madcap, rollicking place.

Toontown Official “Seal”

1. Toontown Official “Seal”
Every town has an official seal, but in Mickey’s Toontown it goes one step further. True to the crazy spirit of this place, the town “seal” is an actual seal—you know, the kind that claps its fins and bounces balls on its nose. Perfect.

Noisy Gag Crates

2. Noisy Gag Crates
In Mickey’s Toontown, even the small details add up to lots of fun. For example, if you’re over by Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, open up the wooden crate boxes and be prepared for the surprises inside. Pay special attention the crates labeled Goofy’s Bounce House or the Gag Factory—you’ll be glad you did.

Mickey’s Musical Fountain

3. Mickey’s Musical Fountain
Just outside Mickey’s house there’s a very special fountain that’s sure to delight the music lovers in your group. All around the base of fountain, you’ll find golden buttons with pictures of instruments on them. As you step on the buttons, the statue of the corresponding instrument in the fountain will start to play.

Growing Population

4. Growing Population
It wouldn’t be Mickey’s Toontown if everything, even the population, wasn’t just a little bit out of whack! As you enter the land, the population wheel above your head spins wildly, letting you know how crazy (and fun!) this area is.

Talkative Post Office Boxes

5. Talkative Post Office Boxes
Head over to the Mickey’s Toontown post office to see where all your favorite characters—Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Roger Rabbit, and Jessica Rabbit—pick up their fan mail. If you twist the knob on each of their mailboxes, they might also have a special greeting for you.

Post Office Hidden Character

6. Post Office Hidden Character
Just outside the post office is a mailbox to send letters. But this being Mickey’s Toontown, you know things aren’t always what they seem. When you pull open the lid, you discover that this particular mailbox—just like all the other mailboxes in town—has its own distinctive character.

Dumbo’s Missing Feather Advertisement

7. Dumbo’s Missing Feather Advertisement
As you wait in line for Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, make sure to check out the fun Easter eggs featuring Roger Rabbit along with some of your other favorite Disney characters. And don’t miss the advertisement on the wall about a certain feather that’s been lost and needs to be returned to its big-eared, flying elephant.

Disney Vanity Plates

8. Disney Vanity Plates
Let’s face it, we all want our cars decorated with Disney memorabilia, and the Disney-themed vanity plates hanging in Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin are at the top of our wish list! Celebrating our favorite movies and animated characters, the vanity plates are the perfect way to take home some of that Disney magic.

Check Out These Cool Changes Coming to Downtown Disney District!

It’s transformation time for the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort, and the changes coming in 2018 are as exciting as they come! Multiple new venues and major refurbishments to well-known restaurant and retail locations are in view, and it’s all to create a truly one-of-a-kind Disney experience—full of family-friendly shopping, dining, and fabulous entertainment.

Case in point: Popular San Diego-based brewer Ballast Point will open its very first Orange County location in Downtown Disney later this year. (Check out some new concept art for the location, above.) The restaurant pairs award-winning beers (including its flagship Sculpin IPA) with an extensive menu of SoCal cuisine using local, sustainable, and seasonal ingredients. The space will house Downtown Disney’s first-ever on-site brewery, as well as a tasting room, kitchen, and outdoor beer garden.

Plus, World of Disney will be reimagined into a new—and distinctly Disney—retail environment. Don’t worry: This flagship store will remain open to guests for shopping during the majority of the refurbishment, with work expected to be completed in phases throughout 2018. The store will continue to offer the largest selection of Disney toys, souvenirs, accessories, collectibles, and more at the Disneyland Resort.

Remember, the amazing new multi-sensory experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, from ILMxLAB and The VOID, is already open! And stay tuned for more Downtown Disney District transformation news as it becomes available…

Get Heroic with Just-Revealed Cast from Incredibles 2

Honestly, there’s no better superlative to call this news other than… super! The cast of Disney•Pixar’s Incredibles 2 was recently divulged—and we’re happy to report there’s a fantastic mix of returning favorites and fabulous newcomers.

Joining original stars Craig T. Nelson (Bob Parr), Holly Hunter (Helen Parr), Sarah Powell (Violet Parr), Samuel L. Jackson (Frozone), and Brad Bird (Edna “E” Mode) are newbies Huckleberry “Huck” Milner as Dashiell Parr, Bob Oedenkirk as Winston Deavor, Catherine Keener as Evelyn Deavor, Jonathan Banks as Rick Dicker, Sophia Bush as Voyd, and Isabella Rossellini as the Ambassador.

In Incredibles 2, everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back—but this time, Helen (aka Elastigirl) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (otherwise known as Mr. Incredible) at home with kids Violet and Dash to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. But it’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the Parrs are still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family (plus best pal Frozone) must find a way to work together again… which is easier said than done, even when they’re all, well, Incredible. Directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles) and produced by John Walker (The Incredibles) and Nicole Grindle (Sanjay’s Super Team, Toy Story 3 associate producer), Incredibles 2 will burst into theaters on June 15!

Congratulations to Disney’s Just-Announced Oscar Nominees!

By D23 Team

Nominations for the 90th Oscars® were announced this morning and members of the Academy are more than “un poco loco” for Disney•Pixar’s Coco, which follows up its recent Golden Globe® win with a nomination in the Animated Feature Film category. Coco’s signature ballad, “Remember Me,” was also nominated for Original Song. Disney releases received 10 nominations in nine categories, including four for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Coco’s director, Lee Unkrich, and producer, Darla K. Anderson, expressed their gratitude to the Academy on behalf of everyone at Pixar. “What began as research trips to Mexico to learn more about the celebration of Día de Muertos, became our story about family, traditions, and honoring our ancestors. The warmth and beauty of Mexico’s people and culture made Coco possible, and showed us the benefits of building bridges rather than walls,” they said. “We were also reminded to keep our loved ones in our minds and in our hearts—something we hope everyone remembers to do.”

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, Oscar®-winning songwriters for Frozen in 2014, were thrilled to be nominated for “Remember Me.” “We are so grateful to our collaborators at Pixar for challenging us to write a song that could have so many meanings,” they said. “Although, in its most authentic form, ‘Remember Me’ is a very personal song about saying goodbye to those you love, while staying connected through music. We couldn’t be prouder of what these filmmakers have achieved in Coco, a film that has always strived to faithfully portray and celebrate Mexican culture—and we are grateful to the Academy for the recognition!”

Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast was nominated in two categories, including Production Design. Additionally, Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran was recognized for her stunning creations, such as Belle’s iconic yellow dress, which was stitched with 3,000 feet of thread and features gold-leaf filigree and more than 2,000 Swarovski crystals. Durran, also nominated for Darkest Hour, learned of her nominations in a phone message this morning. “I am absolutely thrilled, even a bit overwhelmed, at being nominated twice. It is a great honor to receive two nominations and for such different films,” she said. “Of course, it is also a recognition of the work of a great costume team who bring the ideas to life, as well as a celebration of the creative collaboration between departments (with Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer also receiving two nominations). It’s really wonderful.”

Production Designer Sarah Greenwood received the good news while she was walking her dogs in London’s Hyde Park. “Text and calls coming in—what a thrill, what an honor. Amazing!! We loved making Beauty and the Beast… we had the most fantastic, talented, and wonderful crews, without whom we would be nothing. Here’s to them, here’s to the Academy, and here’s to Disney, and most of all here’s to our fabulous amazing director, Bill Condon, who made Beauty and the Beast such a joy.”

The Last Jedi

Legendary composer John Williams received his 51st Oscar® nod for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Williams holds an Oscar record, boasting more Academy Award® nominations than any other living person. “It was a privilege and a joy to be a part of Rian Johnson’s fabulous film, and I’m extremely grateful to the Academy for this recognition,” said Williams. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was also nominated for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects.

Lou

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was also nominated for Visual Effects and Disney Pixar’s Lou is up for best Short Film (Animated). “As artists who struggled with the typical challenges of growing up and fitting in—thinking we were the only ones feeling like outsiders—this nomination is more meaningful than anyone could imagine,” said Dave Mullins, director of Lou and Dana Murray, producer. “This is dedicated to the Lous of the world, who use the power of kindness to change the world for the better, one JJ at a time. Thank you to the Academy, and to Disney and Pixar, and to the entire crew of LOU, without whom this film and this moment would never have happened.”

GOTG 2

Minnie Mouse Had the “Best Day Ever” on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

By Beth Deitchman

It was a celebration befitting one of Hollywood’s most prolific stars. This morning Minnie Mouse received an official star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an honor given to the screen legend and fashion icon by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in celebration of her 90th anniversary. And as if that wasn’t enough of a tribute to the screen and fashion icon, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce also declared today Minnie Mouse Day in Hollywood. January 22 is also National Polka Dot day, so Minnie wasn’t exaggerating when she declared today “the best day ever!”

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger and global pop superstar Katy Perry (judge of ABC’s American Idol) joined Minnie for a special ceremony this morning in Hollywood outside of the legendary El Capitan Theatre, where Iger acknowledged the guest of honor as “a true legend, a real character, and the first lady of The Walt Disney Company.”

“Minnie Mouse has been a star and a fashion icon since she first burst onto the scene in the groundbreaking animated classic, Steamboat Willie,” said Iger. “The star of more than 70 movies during her illustrious career, Minnie has entertained millions of people around the world, touching hearts and bringing joy wherever she goes. We’re thrilled to see her cultural influence and many achievements recognized with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

Katy Perry—emulating Minnie’s signature style in a red dress with white polka dots—emphasized Minnie’s impact as a fashion muse. “To this day, no one rocks a bow, the color red, or a dot quite like her–trust me, I’m trying,” said Perry.

In addition to Minnie’s decades-long career on screens both big and small—from her debut in Steamboat Willie to her roles in popular animated series airing now on Disney Channels around the world, such as Mickey and the Roadster Racers and the Mickey Mouse shorts—and her influence on the world of fashion, Minnie was also heralded as a force for good. Iger noted, “Always ahead of her time, Minnie was an influencer way before the rise of social media, making kindness and joy fashionable along with her hats, her bows, and her polka dots.” Walt Disney Parks and Resorts’ recent #ShareYourEars campaigns featured countless tributes to Minnie and resulted in $4 million in donations benefiting Make-A-Wish.

“Minnie always finds time to use her many talents and celebrity to lift spirits, bring laughter to children, and support causes that are making a positive impact on countless communities. She has the ability to touch hearts and bring joy everywhere she goes,” said Iger, adding, “For all of her many accomplishments as an entertainer and a fashionista, I think what we love most about Minnie Mouse is her ability to just make us smile.”

Today also marked the launch of a new 20-piece special-edition Coach collection inspired by Minnie’s iconic style. The collection includes handbags, small leather goods, ready-to-wear, and specialty items—all infusing signature Coach silhouettes reimagined with vintage-inspired Disney patches and—of course—Minnie Mouse’s favorite polka dots. Minnie wore a bespoke dress designed by Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers to a celebratory lunch immediately following the ceremony at Hollywood’s famed Chateau Marmont.

Though Minnie now takes her place among some of the most prolific stars in Hollywood, the icon took this great honor in stride. “I’m so grateful and I want to thank all my friends from around the world. And Mickey, I’m so happy you’re here to share this wonderful day with me,” she said. “This really is the best day ever!”

12 Disney Mentors Who Inspire Us to Greatness

By Megan Deppe

Walt Disney once said, “Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children,” and entertainment that inspires both children and adults is part of his enduring legacy. So many beloved Disney films have featured mentors who’ve taught their mentees—and us!—very important lessons. After all, where would Hercules be if Phil hadn’t taught him to be a hero? And what about Princess Mia, who learned everything she knows about royal life from the great Queen Clarisse? We took a look back at some of our favorite Disney mentors and they’ve inspired us all over again!

phil - disney mentors

1. Phil (Hercules)
Phil might be a little rough around the edges, but he reminds us, “It takes more than sinew. Comes down to what’s in you.” He had given up on his own dreams, but when he meets Hercules  and sees how much potential the wannabe God has, Phil puts all of his effort into making Hercules’ dream come true. Mentor Phil proves to all of us that everyone has potential to be a hero if someone believes in them.

aggie - disney mentors

2. Aggie Cromwell (Halloweentown)
Aggie Cromwell’s magical mentoring skills don’t come from her mystical power, but rather from her kindly demeanor. She doesn’t allow her students to look down on themselves, and her catchphrase—“Being normal is vastly overrated”—is a phrase to live by for Marnie, and for us. Aggie inspires us to look at the world differently, reminding us that you can’t judge a monster by its cover.

long john silver - disney mentors

3. Long John Silver (Treasure Planet)
It’s true that Silver might not be the best role model—after all, he is a pirate—but he encourages people around him to become better versions of themselves. When he realizes that Jim Hawkins is lost without a father figure to guide him, he teaches the teen to stay true to himself and to “stick to it, no matter the squalls!”

edna mode - disney mentors

4. Edna Mode (The Incredibles)
There is way more to our favorite costume designer than just a hatred for capes. Edna Mode is also a great teacher—albeit an unconventional one. Mr. Incredible trusts her with the knowledge that he’s going out on missions again and Edna stands by him, knowing the world needs Supers. And Edna later smacks some sense—literally!—into a confused and emotional Mrs. Incredible, urging, “Go! Confront the problem! Fight! Win!” We believe we can because Edna believes we can!

queen clarisse - disney mentors

5. Queen Clarisse Renaldi (The Princess Diaries)
We can’t all be princesses, but Queen Clarisse proves that we can all have queenly manners! We learned so much from her, everything from “A queen is never late. Everyone else is simply early,” to her Mia-specific analogy, “You wouldn’t stop driving your Mustang just because a couple of insects hit the windshield!” Even if we don’t rule a country, Queen Clarisse teaches us all that we can still live our lives gracefully, like a queen, and we are more than happy to soak up all of her royal lessons.

jiminy - disney mentors

6. Jiminy Cricket (Pinocchio)
The little cricket has an innate sense of good and bad: He steers Pinocchio away from temptations; and he lets his own conscience be his guide when it comes to snitching on Pinocchio to his father. Jiminy Cricket reminds us that it doesn’t matter who we are as we try to achieve our goals: “If your heart is in your dreams, no request is too extreme!”

gordon bombay - disney mentors

7. Gordon Bombay (The Mighty Ducks)
Gordon’s transformation into a great mentor is especially inspirational in light of the fact that he had a terrible model in his youth, one who insisted that you were nothing if you weren’t a winner. Gordon believed that for a long time, but when he’s faced with a similar situation, he tells his students what is truly important: “You may make it. You may not. But that doesn’t matter… what matters is that we’re here.”

yoda - disney mentors

8. Yoda (Star Wars)
Part of a mentor’s duty is to make sure that their student is fully prepared for the real world—and to recognize when that student no longer needs to be taught. Yoda, one of the wisest teachers of all, summed this up in the most eloquent way possible: “We are what they grow beyond.” He knows that he does not need to worry about his students after they have grown stronger than him, it’s a sign that he has done his job well. From the moment he stated that “there is no try,” Yoda has been a stand-out mentor, and we will remember his lessons forever.

doc hudson - disney mentors

9. Doc Hudson (Cars)
You know you’ve been a good mentor when your student paints himself to look just like you! Though Doc and Lightning McQueen didn’t start off on the greatest of terms, they both learned to respect one another, and Lightning learned a great deal from the older race car. Perhaps the most important lesson was how to grow up – though Doc himself never said it, Lightning learned that the happiest time of Doc’s life was when he was Lightning’s teacher, and that compels Lightning to pass on his knowledge and talent to the next generation.

mary poppins - disney mentors

10. Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins)
There’s a reason that we’re so excited to see our favorite nanny return this Christmas in Mary Poppins Returns! Mary Poppins is one of the best mentors we’ve ever seen—she knows how to have fun, but she is also strict enough to make sure that we understand the lesson. We might sing about a “Spoonful of Sugar” while we clean our rooms, but Mary Poppins makes sure that we don’t get sidetracked—that room still gets clean! Most importantly, Mary Poppins reminds us that “anything can happen”, as long as we are open to it!

kanan - disney mentors

11. Kanan Jarrus (Star Wars: Rebels)
Because Kanan never finished his own Jedi training, he constantly worries that he does not know enough to be a good teacher to Ezra (and later, Sabine). Well, he can stop worrying—he’s already proven that he is a great mentor. It’s not just about how much Kanan teaches his students, but also how much he cares about what happens to them. Even when Kanan doesn’t believe in himself, he believes in his students, and he never stops trying to make sure they will be the best versions of themselves that they can be.

tony stark - disney mentors

12. Tony Stark (Captain America: Civil War)
Who would’ve thought that the genius billionaire, playboy, philanthropist would become a great mentor? Nobody, least of all himself, but he proved everyone wrong by recruiting – and mentoring – young Peter Parker, aka, Spider-Man, to join the fray during Captain America: Civil War. Tony’s mentorship abilities will be put to the test, though, when he, Spider-Man, and nearly all our favorite heroes face off against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
