You Need to See These Creepy Cute Disney Halloween Masks from the Walt Disney Archives

By Jocelyn Buhlman

Vintage Halloween masks can be a charming portal to the past—or a creepy peek at design differences from another era. Whether you’re wishing for one of these retro Disney masks of your own or hoping they stay firmly in the past, you’ll be fascinated by this collection of Ben Cooper Disney Halloween masks from our friends at the Walt Disney Archives. Take a closer look (but maybe not too close) at five of our favorites below:

Donald Ben Cooper - 1

It’d be your ducky day to have this mask to complete your Halloween costume. The neon-colored rendition of the ultimate quack up gives us total throwback vibes—and is perfect to celebrate Donald’s 85th anniversary!

Mouseketeer - Ben Cooper Halloween Mask

Want to join the club that’s made for you and me? Before there was D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, you could join the Mickey Mouse Club for a night with this Halloween mask that doesn’t just let you put on the iconic ear hat—but also the face of a Mouseketeer!

Tron - Ben Cooper Halloween Mask

Greetings, users. Pretend you’re on the game grid with this mask depicting our favorite program, Tron! The film Tron was known for its groundbreaking and unusual visual design, which this mask from the 1980s mimics.

Ludwig Von Drake - Ben Cooper - 5

Prove you’re the smartest duck around by wearing this mask, showcasing the feathered face of Professor Ludwig Von Drake, Donald Duck’s eccentric uncle and emcee of several iconic Disney television shows. This mask from the 1960s is the perfect costume choice for any Disney fan who considers themselves a bit of a wise-quacker.

Sleeping Beauty - Ben Cooper - 5

Do you want to look like Sleeping Beauty for Halloween? You… might… look like her in this mask, perfect for those of us who never decided between “make it pink” and “make it blue,” as this 1960s mask features a multi-hued tiara showcasing both of the princess’ iconic colors.

The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live! Adds John Stamos and Graham Phillips

By Zach Johnson

Everything’s better down where it’s wetter—just ask John Stamos and Graham Phillips! The actors have just joined the cast of The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live! The two-hour special airs Tuesday, November 5, at 8 p.m., on ABC.

Following Stamos’ performance as Chef Louis in the Hollywood Bowl production of The Little Mermaid, the two-time Emmy® Award-nominated actor and producer will reprise his role as the eccentric French cook. Also joining previously announced cast members Auli’i Cravalho (Ariel), Queen Latifah (Ursula), and Shaggy (Sebastian) is film and television star Phillips, who will return to his live theater roots in the role of Prince Eric. Both actors bring a wealth of stage experience. Stamos made his Broadway debut in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying before starring in productions of the Tony® Award-nominated The Best Man and the Tony Award-winning musicals Nine and Cabaret, while Phillips originated the role of Evan Goldman in the Broadway musical 13.

The Little Mermaid Live!

As previously announced, The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live! will honor the 30th anniversary of the beloved animated classic through a never-before-seen hybrid format that will take viewers on a magical adventure under the sea. Live musical performances will be interwoven into the broadcast of the original feature film, and the production will feature intricate sets and costumes by three-time Emmy Award-winning designer Zaldy. The special will also include music from the original animated film and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway stage version, originally composed by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer and Disney Legend Alan Menken. Howard Ashman’s iconic lyrics from the film will be showcased, and Glenn Slater, the lyricist for the Broadway adaptation, will contribute to the star-studded spectacular. Joining the production’s creative team are choreographers Nick Florez and RJ Durrell.

The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live! is being produced by Done+Dusted. Executive producers include director Hamish Hamilton, Katy Mullan, David Jammy, Raj Kapoor, Ian Stewart, and Richard Kraft (who directed and produced the Hollywood Bowl productions of both The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast).

400+ Plant-Based Dishes Coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts

By Zach Johnson

Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort have announced that all of their major quick and table service restaurants will soon be serving plant-based options. Guests can choose from more than 400 sweet and savory creations, including several new dishes. Because guests have embraced existing plant-based offerings, the two Resorts were inspired to expand their menus and introduce a new menu icon, a green leaf, making it easier than ever to find these creations.

Mouths will be watering over the delectable plant-based items already at Disney Parks, such as the Shiriki noodle salad from Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen at Magic Kingdom Park (noodles, edamame beans, mushrooms, green mango, and cucumber, tossed with a sweet chili sauce); the Felucian garden spread from Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort (plant-based “kefta,” herb hummus, tomato-cucumber relish, and pita); the chili-spiced crispy fried tofu bowl from Satu’li Canteen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (crispy tofu, seasoned with chili-spice, topped with a crunchy vegetable slaw, boba balls, and choice of base and sauce); and the plant-based cashew cheesecake from California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Preview additional menu items in the video from the Disney Parks Blog:

Each of the fun and flavorful options are made from plant-based ingredients—fruits, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and vegetables—and without animal meat, dairy, eggs, or honey. At quick service locations on October 1 and at table service locations on October 3, Walt Disney World Resort will add the plant-based menu icon and introduce new options at its theme parks and resort hotels. In the spring of 2020, the menu icon and many new plant-based options will arrive at Disneyland Resort. Across the world, Disney Parks are already serving up delicious plant-based fare, including risotto-style spelt with mushrooms at Disneyland Paris; pan-fried vegetables with plant-based dumplings at Hong Kong Disneyland; and caramel mix nuts banana cake at Shanghai Disney Resort. While sailing the high seas aboard Disney Cruise Line, guests can enjoy everything from a plant-based chili dog to plant-based eggs to chocolate truffle cake.

See This Year’s Haunted Mansion Holiday Gingerbread House Come to Life…

The artisans at the Disneyland Resort Central Bakery have outdone themselves once again, with a monstrously mesmerizing gingerbread house for 2019’s Haunted Mansion Holiday, celebrating the Haunted Mansion’s 50th anniversary. And much like in years past, as the team set to work creating the house inside the attraction’s Grand Hall, they got some amazing footage of the entire process. Check it out, above!

If you’re unable to visit Disneyland Resort during the thrills and chills of Halloween Time this fall, and are worried you might miss seeing (and smelling!) the gingerbread house in person, fret not—it’ll be delighting foolish mortals through early January 2020.

First Look at Ride Vehicles for Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

There’s so much to look forward to at Epcot in the next few years, what with the park about to celebrate Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary in a really big way. Construction is already underway on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction, and we recently got an up-close look at its colorful new ride vehicles. See them for yourself via the clip, above.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a family-friendly storytelling coaster that will feature a groundbreaking ride system with vehicles that rotate 360 degrees—and can even do a reverse launch. This “OmniCoaster” ride system will direct your eyes to what’s happening around you; instead of whizzing by the action, the system will fully immerse you in the attraction’s story from the minute you take off. Plus, your adventure starts in the “Galaxarium,” an amazing planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You’ll be invited to learn more about Xandar’s treasures—until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue!

Look for more Cosmic Rewind scoop as we soar ever closer to the attraction’s 2021 opening.

The D23 Fan’s Ultimate Guide to ABC’s Fall 2019 Season

By Zach Johnson

Get ready to fall in love with ABC’s fall schedule.

The fun began earlier this week with the return of Dancing with the Stars (Mondays at 8|7c), which saw a diverse group of actors, athletes, hosts, musicians, and even a politician stepping outside of their comfort zones and competing for the coveted Mirrorball trophy. This year’s celebrity contestants include Lauren Alaina, Ally Brooke, Hannah Brown, Karamo Brown, Kate Flannery, Ray Lewis, Kel Mitchell, Lamar Odom, Sean Spicer, James Van Der Beek, and Mary Wilson; after supermodel Christie Brinkley suffered injuries while rehearsing for the premiere, her daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook, was tapped to replace her for the remainder of the season.

ABC Fall Preview- DWTS

Returning professional dancers include Brandon Armstrong, Lindsay Arnold, Alan Bersten, Cheryl Burke, Witney Carson, Val Chmerkovskiy, Sasha Farber, Jenna Johnson, Keo Motsepe, Peta Murgatroyd, Gleb Savchenko and Emma Slater. Daniella Karagach and Pasha Pashkov joined as new professional dancers. Co-hosts Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron are back, as are judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. (Episodes are available Tuesdays on ABC.com, the ABC app and Hulu.)

Four new shows are joining the ABC family this season: mixed-ish (Tuesdays at 9|8c), Emergence (Tuesdays at 10|9c), Stumptown (Wednesdays at 10|9c) and Kids Say the Darndest Things (Sundays at 8|7c). This also marks the eleventh and final season of the Emmy®- and Golden Globe®-winning comedy series Modern Family, as well as the sixth and final season of How to Get Away with Murder, for which Viola Davis won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2015 and is nominated again this year.

Before the new shows premiere on ABC, we interviewed the stars at the 2019 Summer Press Tour in Beverly Hills to learn more about their respective series and what viewers can expect:

ABC Fall Preview- Mixed-ish

mixed-ish
A spinoff of the hit comedy black-ish, the series traces the origins of Johnson family matriarch Rainbow (played by executive producer Tracee Ellis Ross in black-ish and Arica Himmel in mixed-ish) and her experiences growing up in a mixed-race family in the 1980s. “Once I read the script I was like, ‘Ah! Got it. I’m down,’” recalls Tika Sumpter, who stars as Rainbow’s mother, Alicia. “And the characters are so well thought out.” Adds Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who plays Rainbow’s father, “This feels like a dream job. We’re so thankful to be a part of this -ish world.”

The series begins when the Johnsons relocate to the suburbs following a raid on the hippie commune they call home. Now, Rainbow and her siblings (Mykal-Michelle Harris, Ethan William Childress) must learn to adjust to a school in which they’re seen as neither black nor white—a concept Sumpter was keen to explore. “The -ish world knows how to create relevant content, where it’s not smacking you in the face,” Tika says. “It’s just there—and you’re part of it.”

ABC Fall Preview- Emergence

Emergence
This genre thriller follows police chief Jo Evans (Allison Tolman), who takes in an unaccompanied minor (Alexa Swinton) she finds near the site of a mysterious accident. Adding to the mystery: The young girl who has zero memory of what happened! The investigation draws Jo into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the girl’s identity is at the center of it all. One of the things that makes Emergence unique is that it moves at a rapid pace. “I was surprised when I heard the full season pitch,” Allison admits. “Things I thought would be season-long reveals, the producers were like, ‘No, we’ll get there in maybe four or five episodes.’ I was like, ‘Where are we going to go from here?’ But steadily, every episode, there’s a little bit more of a reveal.”

Emergence also stars Ashley Aufderheide as Mia Evans, Robert Bailey Jr. as Chris Minetto, Zabryna Guevara as Abby Frasier and Owain Yeoman as Benny Gallagher, with Clancy Brown as Ed Sawyer and Donald Faison as Alex Evans. Donald, whose character maintains an amicable relationship with his ex-wife, Jo, says the series has a bit of everything (“comedy, drama, sci-fi”), but at its heart, it’s a show about family. Says Allison, “It’s a very modern look at a family unit.”

ABC Fall Preview- Stumptown

Stumptown
Based on the graphic novel series of the same name, Stumptown centers on Dex Parios (Cobie Smulders), a strong, sharp-witted army veteran with a complicated love life, a gambling problem and a brother who’s her dependent. She’s a skilled PI, but her brash style puts her in the firing line of some of the worst criminals—not to mention at odds with local police officers.

Cobie was initially unfamiliar with the source material, so she made a point to read past issues of the graphic novel series from author Greg Rucka and illustrators Justin Greenwood and Matthew Southworth before signing on. “I loved it. I was really excited by it,” Cobie says. “One of the reasons I said yes was getting to see the world, the tone and the characters.”

The Stumptown cast also includes Jake Johnson as Grey McConnell, Tantoo Cardinal as Sue Lynn Blackbird, Cole Sibus as Ansel Parios and Adrian Martinez as Tookie, with Camryn Manheim as Lieutenant Cosgrove and Michael Ealy as Detective Miles Hoffman. “I think people should tune in because the characters are really interesting and really different,” Cobie promises. “They will constantly surprise you. There’s going to be a lot of twists and turns throughout the series!”

Michael Ealy certainly shares that sentiment. “I actually felt my character was underwritten in the pilot,” he admits, “but what I loved about that was I couldn’t tell you where he was going to go next. That excited me as an actor and that challenged me as an actor.” As for Camryn? The actress was happy to see “so many powerful female characters,” and she couldn’t ask for better foils than Tantoo and Cobie. “I thought, ‘Wow! It’s about time. I want to be a part of that trio!”

ABC Fall Preview- Kids Say the Darndest Things

Kids Say the Darndest Things
The hilarious and ubiquitous Tiffany Haddish hosts and executive produces this new iteration of the classic variety show. The reimagined format showcases a mix of in-studio segments and taped pieces from across the country, all set in front of a live studio audience. The series will capture Tiffany’s singular voice and sensibility as she interacts with real kids and their unique points of view. “I’m excited to hear what kids have to say these days because I can’t understand what they are saying on social media,” Tiffany jokes. “They’re using too many abbreviations!”

Each episode will highlight kids’ comedic perspectives in laugh-out-loud segments. Recurring bits include “Kids Rule,” in which kids explain the guidelines for everything from sportsmanship to dating; “Love Talk,” in which Tiffany seeks romantic advice; “I’ll Be Right Back,” a hidden-camera segment in which Tiffany asks kids to watch her desk when she leaves the office; “Granny Tiff,” in which Tiffany, disguised as an older woman, asks for tech advice; and more.

Celebrate Lost with Amazing Props from The Walt Disney Archives

By Jocelyn Buhlman

“Guys… Where are we?”

Fifteen years ago on September 22, 2004, Lost introduced us to the mind-boggling mystery of The Island and the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 who were stranded there. The iconic series kept us on the edge of our seats from day one, and continued intriguing us through every polar bear, mysterious string of numbers, and hatch that showed up along the way. To help celebrate the anniversary of this monumental series, we’ve rounded up some of the show’s most iconic props from the Walt Disney Archives. (Although, we cannot confirm whether the Archives keeps these props in their own mysterious hatch.)

Lost Props Roundup-Hurley's Ticket

The numbers on Hurley’s lottery ticket held more significance than he could have ever first realized—and we appreciate him including “23” as one of his number selections!

Lost Props Roundup-Kate's Cuffs

Arriving to the island shackled in handcuffs, but free of the warden keeping a watchful eye over her, Kate was one of many passengers who escaped the past through life on The Island.

Jack is one of the first passengers you meet from Oceanic flight 815. As a central figure on the series, the doctor is key to the story—and a snappy dresser!

Lost Props Roundup-Charlie's Guitar

Is “You All Everybody” stuck in your head yet? Charlie’s guitar is an important item to him during his time on The Island, reminding him of his past with his rock band, Drive Shaft.

Lost Props Roundup-Dharma Biscuits

The Dharma Initiative, a key mystery throughout Lost, used these biscuits to train something. (Polar bears?) Sawyer discovers a “complicated gizmo” while imprisoned on Hydra Island that releases these as a prize.
