Make a Core Memories Photo Card

Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear did their very best to make sure Riley kept all her special “core memories” intact in Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out. Preserve a favorite memory of your own by attaching a photo to our colorful Core Memories Photo Card!

Supplies:
8.5 x 11-inch white cardstock (printable)
8.5 x 11-inch printer paper
Scissors
Glue stick
Favorite photo (make sure it’s one you’re willing to cut a bit smaller!)
Pencil or pen

  1. Download and print out the greeting card image (Page 1 of 2) onto your cardstock.
  2. Cut around the provided grey line to remove any white border, leaving image intact.
  3. Fold horizontally along the center of the card (above Joy and friends).
  4. Print out the photo template (Page 2 of 2) onto a sheet of printer paper and cut around the black outline.
  5. Make sure the image you want to preserve from your photo fits inside the boundary of the template. Then, turn your photo over, place template on the back of the photo, and trace around the outline of the template with your pencil or pen.
  6. Cut your photo, using the trace marks as your outline.
  7. With your glue stick, apply glue to the back of your newly cut photo, and attach it to the front of your Core Memories card (where it says “Place Image Here”). Let dry.
  1. Display with your other holiday cards; write a message inside and give to a friend or family member; or use it as a picture frame!

NOTE: Cutting should be done by an adult.

The Good Dinosaur Egg Scramble Skillet

Does your little cave boy or cave girl have an appetite the size of a young Apatosaurus? When it’s time to gather for another day of holiday fun, start the day with a new family tradition. The perfect holiday breakfast, this oversized skillet scramble will feed the whole crowd.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups firmly packed peeled and shredded potatoes
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 small red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, pressed
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 6 large eggs
  • ¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper and ¼ tsp. salt, combined

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Place shredded potatoes in a large bowl, and submerge completely in cold water. Let stand five minutes then drain and pat dry.
  3. Melt butter with vegetable oil in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add bell peppers and onions and sauté three to five minutes or until tender. Add garlic and sauté for another minute. Stir in shredded potatoes and ½ tsp. salt. Cook for another 10 minutes or so, stirring often, until potatoes are golden and tender.
  4. Remove skillet from stove. Make six indentations in the potato mixture. Break one egg into each indentation. Sprinkle eggs with salt-and-pepper mixture.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 12 to 14 minutes or until eggs are set. Serve immediately.

Create a The Good Dinosaur “Footprint” Ornament

Family is forever—just ask Arlo the Apatosaurus, who goes on a perilous journey to reunite with his clan (making an unlikely human friend along the way) in Disney•Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur. Capture a moment in time this Christmas with our “Footprint” Ornament; use your little one’s handprint to add a personal, memorable touch to your tree… or celebrate the pet in your life by using their paw print!

Supplies:
Clay (“air-dry” store-bought or homemade)
Wax paper
Dark blue acrylic paint
Medium paintbrush
Light green puffy paint
Green glitter
Ribbon or string
Scissors

  1. Cover your work surface with wax paper.
  1. Grab a handful of clay and knead it into a round ball (about the size of a tennis ball).
  1. Place the ball on your work surface and—using the palm of your hand—flatten it into a “pancake” shape, about an inch or so bigger than the size of the hand you’re imprinting.
  1. Lay your child’s hand on top of clay and, with your hands, press each finger and the palm down into the clay. (BONUS TIP: If your child is small enough, you could even use their foot!)

OR

Form a slightly smaller ball of clay; press into the shape of a silver-dollar “pancake”; and use your pet’s paw to push a print into the clay.

  1. Use the end of your paintbrush to poke a hole through the top of the ornament.
  1. Let dry—overnight, or per your clay’s specific drying instructions. (You should be able to peel away the wax paper.)
  1. Using your paintbrush, paint the front of the ornament dark blue, leaving the imprint clear. Allow some time for the paint to dry.
  1. With the puffy paint, lightly fill in each section of the imprint. Then take your glitter and cover each green section—shaking out the excess onto your work surface. Allow ornament to fully dry.

OR

Leave the ornament as-is for a more authentic “footprint” look.

  1. Cut a section of ribbon or string and tie to the top of the ornament, through the hole you created with the end of the paintbrush.
  1. Voilà! You’ve just made a “footprint” to last a lifetime! Hang on your tree and enjoy.

NOTE: Cutting should be done by an adult.

Captain America: Civil War Trailer—Plus More in News Briefs

First Look at Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War

On Tuesday, November 24, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans surprised Jimmy Kimmel Live’s audience (and viewers) with a brand-spanking-new “first look” at Captain America: Civil War, which zooms into theaters next year. See what’s in store by checking out the trailer yourself, above.

This latest Marvel action-adventure finds Steve Rogers (Evans) leading the Avengers in their continued quest to safeguard humanity. But after another Avenger-related incident results in collateral damage, pressure mounts to install a system of accountability—headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo divides the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Rogers and his hope for the Avengers to remain free to defend the world without interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s (Downey Jr.) surprising decision to support government oversight.

Get ready to pick a side when Captain America: Civil War opens across America on May 6, 2016.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is so close… we can feel the Force building all around us! Recently, Disney announced an amazing collaboration with Google: “Awaken the Force Within,” where Star Wars fans have the opportunity to share in immersive experiences celebrating the upcoming film.

The “Awaken the Force Within” global program invites fans to log onto google.com/starwars and make a choice between the Dark Side and the Light Side. Plus, Verizon and Google with debut a new virtual reality experience, developed with ILMxLAB (a laboratory for immersive entertainment from Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound), on December 2. A first-of-its-kind serialized Google Cardboard Virtual Reality (VR) experience will combine compelling story with never-seen-before content that ties directly into the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom: New Details Announced!

A new show is coming in spring 2016 to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort—and based on the new details revealed by our pals over at the Disney Parks Blog, it’s not to be missed! The Rivers of Light nighttime spectacular will take place on Discovery River, between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest, and will highlight Animal Kingdom’s amazing Tree of Life—which will burst with the colors of magical fireflies. A pair of mystical hosts will appear bearing gifts of light; during the show, these hosts will set out from the shore on elaborate lantern vessels to summon animal spirits from within the tree.

To create Rivers of Light, Walt Disney Imagineers and Creative Entertainment partnered with master puppet designer Michael Curry, composer Mark Mancina, and even the filmmakers at Disneynature! Get a sneak peek into the show’s development with this behind-the-scenes video featuring Imagineer Joe Rohde, and stay tuned for the show’s debut next spring.

Marvel’s Doctor Strange Begins Production

Here’s a bit of exciting Marvel news to pull you out of those post-Thanksgiving doldrums: On Tuesday, November 24, Marvel Studios announced that production has officially begun on Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Imitation Game), Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Martian), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), and Oscar® winner Tilda Swinton (The Grand Budapest Hotel). The film—which is shooting in exotic locations like Hong Kong and Kathmandu—will open in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016, and is directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister).

Doctor Strange follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers a hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. It’s the latest movie in “Phase 3” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introducing audiences to new heroes and continuing the adventures of fan-favorites. “By the eye of Agamotto,” we can hardly wait!

Meet Flash the Sloth in New Zootopia Trailer

All manner of animals live and work in Zootopia, the modern mammal metropolis at the center of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ latest film. That includes Flash the sloth—the oh-so-slow DMW worker that Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) and her cohort Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman) face when trying to run a bad guy’s license plate.

See adorable, but unmercifully lethargic, Flash in action in the newest clip from Zootopia, above—and mark your calendars for the film’s March 4, 2016 release.

Time Lapse Fun at Disneyland Resort’s it’s a small world

As the elves at Disneyland Resort began decorating for the holidays, they documented the effort that went into covering it’s a small world with tens of thousands of twinkling lights—and the results can be seen above, in a particularly jolly time-lapse video!

According to our pals over at the Disney Parks Blog, 11 Technical Services cast members worked five nights a week for eight whole weeks in order to decorate the attraction and its surrounding topiaries and trees. And here’s a nice piece of trivia for that upcoming holiday cocktail party: There are almost five miles of light strings on the attraction’s façade! We bet the North Pole is jealous…

Five Moments from Walt’s Most Memorable Christmas

Walt Disney had many memorable Christmases—from the year he gave his wife, Lillian, a Springer Spaniel in a hatbox, to the year he surprised his daughters, Diane and Sharon, with a beautiful backyard playhouse. But when asked in 1957 of his most memorable Christmas, Walt thought back to his days as a paperboy, when he received a very memorable gift.

780w-463h_walt-favorite-christmas-2

Here are five moments from that special Christmas morning in 1911—the first one 10-year-old Walter spent in Kansas City, Missouri.

  1. The Christmas tree was simple, but special.

The tree in the Disney family sitting room was modest, ornamented with strung popcorn and cranberries with glowing candles and a piney smell—the perfect setting for the family to gather.

  1. Walt’s brother Roy gave Walt a toy that mesmerized him.

It was a shiny gyroscopic top, and young Walter was intrigued by its spinning ability. Incidentally, Walt showed interest in the gyroscope later in life, as evidenced by one he requested from the Sperry Gyroscope Company in 1944 that he displayed in his Studio office.

  1. Walter received a gift he had wanted for a long time.

Walt’s parents, Elias and Flora, surprised Walt with a pair of stylish boots he thought he’d never receive. “All the other kids sported them, while I had been wearing an old pair in rain and winter slush, to school and while delivering newspapers in Kansas City,” Walt once wrote. “I hadn’t been able to talk my parents into such extravagance.” But there they were…“Those wonderful, frivolous boots!” with a metal toe cap and two decorated leather strips.

  1. Walter enjoyed the company of his family.

Of that special day, Walt remembered, “It just seemed the most wonderful Christmas any boy could possibly have, with the family affection very warm and heartfelt… Seeing the pleasure my parents had in my joy, I forgave them for having waited so long to fulfill my fondest wish.”

  1. Walt’s mother repurposed the Christmas decorations…

Ever frugal, Walt’s mother pulled the cranberries from the Christmas tree to make sauce.

Hulk and She-Hulk’s Marvel-ous SMASHED Potatoes

Though they’re as gamma-green as Bruce Banner and Jennifer Walters in their Hulk forms, you won’t need any help at all to SMASH up these easy mashed potatoes into a creamy, delicious bowl full of dinnertime deliciousness.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled
  • Salt
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 6 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ tsp. garlic salt
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • Green food coloring

Directions

  1. Cut potatoes into 1-inch cubes and place in a large pot. Submerge the potatoes completely in water and put in enough salt until the water tastes fairly salty. Bring water to a boil then lower the heat to medium-low, and simmer for about 10 minutes or until potatoes break apart easily.
  2. In a small saucepan, cook milk and butter over low heat until butter melts. Remove immediately from heat and set aside.
  3. Once potatoes are done, drain in a colander and place in a large bowl. Mash potatoes by hand until desired texture is achieved. Slowly whisk in milk-and-butter mixture. Add garlic salt, sour cream, and black pepper, and use a whisk to combine.

Mix in green food coloring one drop at a time until mashed potatoes are just the right shade of Incredible Hulk green.

Print a From All of Us to All of You Greeting Card

Produced by the Walt Disney Productions character merchandising division in Toronto, this Christmas card was inspired by the annual Disney television show From All of Us to All of You, which first aired December 19, 1958. The classic holiday show featured Christmas-themed Disney cartoons and was often updated to feature the Studio’s latest animated feature.

Here, Mickey plays the piano—just as he does in the show’s memorable introductory sequence, with many of the Disney characters gathering to sing! Kick off D23 Days of Christmas by printing out your own card (or two)!

Supplies:
8.5 x 11-inch white cardstock (printable)
Scissors

  1. Download and print out the greeting card image (Page 1) onto your cardstock.
  1. Cut around the provided grey line to remove any white border, leaving image intact.
  1. Fold horizontally along the center of the card (above Mickey and friends).
  1. Display with your other holiday cards… or write a message inside and give to a friend or family member!

NOTE: Cutting should be done by an adult.
