Elena of Avalor Gets a Season Three Premiere Date

Mark your calendars, Elena of Avalor fans! This morning, Disney Channel announced that the third season of the animated series will premiere Monday, October 7, at 12:30 p.m. on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. The Emmy®- and Imagen Award-winning program, which premiered in 2016, is inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore. The new season will follow Princess Elena as she receives new magical powers and proves herself ready to become Queen. But before her coronation, the princess will have to face the ultimate test of courage and character.

Season three will feature a Día de los Muertos-themed event, guest-starring Eugenio Derbez and Taye Diggs, airing in October; a Hanukkah-themed episode, guest-starring Jamie-Lynn Sigler as a visiting princess from a Latino Jewish kingdom, airing in December; and Elena’s royal coronation special, airing in 2020. For the first time in forever, a cool new color collection inspired by Frozen is available in Disney Parks worldwide and online at shopDisney.com! Named Arendelle Aqua, the line is inspired by Anna and Elsa’s kingdom from the Oscar®-winning animated feature. The collection marks the first-ever global release for a color collection at Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disney Resort.

The entire fashion collection features a sparkling icy blue hue across a variety of must-have items, including headwear, accessories, and men and women’s apparel, with more coming in the next few months. Enjoy a preview of the new line, as well as the tasty treats and sweet sips:

For the first time overseas at Shanghai Disney Resort, the Minnie Mouse ear headband will be available featuring more than seven different items from the Arendelle Aqua collection; they will be released in the coming months for guests to wear during the Frozen: A Sing-Along Celebration. Find Out “Hoo’s” Coming to Disney Channel’s The Owl House

We’re owl ears for this casting news from our friends at Disney Channel, who have just revealed the voice cast of the upcoming fantasy-comedy animated series The Owl House. Sarah-Nicole Robles (Boss Baby) will star as Luz, a self-assured teenage girl who discovers a portal to a magical realm where she befriends a rebellious witch, Eda (voiced by Wendie Malick of ABC’s American Housewife), and a tiny warrior King (voiced by Alex Hirsch of Disney’s Gravity Falls). Though Luz is without magical abilities of her own, she follows her dream of becoming a witch by serving as Eda’s apprentice at the Owl House—where she ultimately finds a new family in an unlikely setting. Production Begins on New Disney+ Film Safety

We’re now less than two months away from the November 12 launch of Disney+, and the ability to stream an astounding array of movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more—as well as discover new favorites that will stream exclusively on the service. Today, our friends at Disney+ announced that production is underway on Walt Disney Pictures’ Safety, an original film we already can’t wait to stream. Based on an uplifting true story, Safety follows Ray McElrathbey, a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose faith and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities and play football on scholarship at Clemson University, all while struggling to raise and care for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr. Jay Reeves (All American) stars as Ray, Thaddeus J. Mixson (The Grind) is Fahmarr, and Corinne Fox (47 Meters Down: Uncaged) plays Kaycee.

Safety is directed by Oscar® nominee Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained, Marshall), who says, “This is a powerful script that touches everyone who reads it; and now we are assembling a cast of wonderful young actors who will bring Ray McElrathbey’s amazing true story to life on the screen.” The film is written by Randy McKinnon (Where the Water Runs) and Nick Santora (Scorpion, The Fugitive at Quibi) and produced by Mark Ciardi (Chappaquiddick, Invincible). Safety will film on locations in both Clemson, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia before wrapping production in mid-November.

We’re mere weeks away from reacquainting ourselves with a certain Fairy Queen of the Moors, when Maleficent: Mistress of Evil flies into theaters on October 18. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like for Angelina Jolie to transform into the iconic anti-hero, wonder no more—for our friends at The Walt Disney Studios just this week posted a very cool time-lapse video featuring Jolie in her makeup trailer as the film’s hair and makeup team works their magic. Take a look at the clip, above.

In Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, a sequel to the 2014 global box office hit, Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora (Elle Fanning) begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by the latter’s impending nuptials, unexpected allies and dark new forces at play. Directed by Joachim Rønning, the film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith, Aurora’s future mother-in-law (and adversary to Maleficent); Chiwetel Ejiofor as Conall and Ed Skrein as Borra, leaders of the Dark Fey; Sam Riley as Diaval, Maleficent’s constant companion; Harris Dickinson as Prince Phillip, Aurora’s fiancé; and Imelda Staunton as Knotgrass, Juno Temple as Thistlewit, and Lesley Manville as Flittle, the good fairies.

Celebrating Haunted Mansion with a Monstrously Marvelous Gingerbread House

We’d be lying through candy-corn teeth if we didn’t admit that one of our most favorite seasons at Disneyland Resort is Halloween! We love everything about it, from the unique decorations and colorful food and merchandise, to the ghoulishly groovy added events like Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party (on select nights at Disney California Adventure park). And one of the resort’s marquee Halloween offerings, Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland park, is celebrating the season in a particularly memorable way…

In honor of the Haunted Mansion’s incredible 50th anniversary, this year’s Haunted Mansion Holiday Gingerbread House—located, as usual, in the Grand Hall—is themed to resemble the iconic attraction itself! The devilishly delicious dessert, which took a whopping 13 days to make by six members of the Disneyland Resort Central Bakery team, features intricate details that’ll be familiar to every Haunted Mansion fan—including lanterns, clocks, delicate green iron work, and several favorite “grim-grinning ghost” characters.

All told, the gingerbread house stands nearly 10 feet tall and took more than 30 pounds of gingerbread; 120 pounds of frosting and icing; 75 pounds of powdered sugar; and 140 pounds of fondant to create. You can see it (and smell it!) in person at Haunted Mansion Holiday now, and throughout the entire holiday season. Season’s screamings!

These Walt Disney World Buses Have a Lot of Character…

Traveling around Walt Disney World Resort is more colorfully convivial than ever before! Back in July, an entire fleet of WDW buses received cool new wraparound designs featuring the sensational six: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck. Goofy, and Pluto. And this week, our pals over at Disney Parks Blog announced that even more buses—featuring characters from favorite Disney and Pixar films—will be hitting the road later this month!

Soon, guests can travel along with Simba and Zazu from The Lion King; Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc.; or Moana and Pua from Moana… and in the coming weeks, keep an eye out for buses featuring characters from other favorite flicks, including Frozen. These redesigned buses also have comfy new seats and laminate floors, and some will even boast USB charging ports conveniently located between seats.

**Coming to Freeform This November: Turkey Drop, Starring Olivia Holt**

If you count Freeform’s special programming blocks among your favorite holiday traditions—as we most certainly do here at D23—we’ve got an announcement with all of the trimmings. This week, Freeform announced that a new holiday movie, Turkey Drop, will premiere during the network’s “Kick Off to Christmas” programming stunt. The Thanksgiving feature will star Olivia Holt (known to fans as Tandy Bowen on Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger) as Lucy Jacobs—a small-town girl who has just started her freshman year at a big-city university. When she comes home for Thanksgiving break, Lucy suspects her high school sweetheart has plans to dump her. To avoid being “turkey dropped,” as said heart-breaking is often termed, Lucy leaves her comfort zone and sets out to prove she’s not the same play-it-safe girl that she was before leaving for college. As she takes control of her own life and starts to put herself first, Lucy learns to let go of what’s been holding her back, helping achieve what she truly wants out of life.

“Fall” into Magical New Experiences at Shanghai Disney Resort

We may have bade a fond, albeit unofficial, farewell to summer last weekend, but there’s so much Disney magic to look forward to throughout autumn—especially at Shanghai Disney Resort, where a cornucopia of new offers and experiences await guests throughout the Golden Season.

The unbearably adorable “Duffy’s Heartfelt Moments” celebration kicked off September 2 and continues through September 30. Enjoy a performance every morning, themed to Duffy and his friends; special décor; a new Rainy Day merchandise collection; and a variety of Duffy-themed food and beverage offerings at various locations around the resort.

Donald Duck is front and center for a frightfully fun celebration that begins October 2. Joined by Daisy, our favorite duck leads Mickey and the gang, more than 50 dancers, and, of course, Disney Villains along the parade route in Donald’s Halloween Treat Cavalcade. Among the other treats coming to resort for Halloween are the return of the popular Coco-themed area in Adventure Isle; appearances by Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in the “This Is Halloween” Dance Party in Tomorrowland; and a spooktacular late-night Halloween party on October 31—the first ever for the resort—featuring DJs, Disney characters, live musicians, and an epic conclusion that comes in the form of the Halloween Villains Firework Show. Look for Halloween-themed food and beverages all around Shanghai Disneyland, as well as new Halloween Mickey and Pals and Duffy and Friends merchandise collections.

7 Un-boo-lievably Good Eats-and-Treats at Disney Parks

It’s the most spooktacular time of the year at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. The Halloween season brings a chill of utter excitement around the parks from the Mickey-shaped pumpkins paving the streets, to Disney friends donning their best (and not-so-scariest) costumes and our favorite villains taking center stage. Plus, how could we forget the best part of Halloween? The treats! We rounded up a few of the fang-tastic sweets at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort that we can’t wait to sink our teeth into:

1. Oogie’s Worms & Dirt Funnel Fries at Disneyland Resort
Well, well, well, what have we here? We’re not joking when we say worms and dirt never looked this good. This dead-cadent snack is Oogie’s special batch of fries dusted with Oreos and green whipped cream, perfect for any gambling Boogie Man or for us, guys and ghouls.

2. Pumpkin Spice Beignets at Disneyland Resort
What’s the fall season without a little spice? Pumpkin spice that is! Available at the Mint Julep Bar, we’ll gladly name these beignets the pumpkin king of treats.

3. Darth by Chocolate Parfait at Disneyland Resort
Do not underestimate the power of the sweet side. This treat brings the forces of red velvet cake, dark chocolate mousse and ganache together in this scary good parfait.

4. Minnie Witch Shake at Disneyland Resort
It’s only fitting that style icon Minnie Mouse gets the most stylish dessert. A mint chocolate shake topped with multicolored sprinkles, Oreo ears and a bright orange bow—a Minnie Mouse staple—it’s almost too boo-tiful to eat.

Magical New Experiences Coming to Disneyland Paris in 2020 and Beyond

Just weeks after exciting Disney Parks developments were unveiled at D23 Expo 2019 in Anaheim, California, the first Disneyland Paris Media Expo today gave reporters a preview of the immersive, one-of-a-kind seasonal events, and exciting new offerings coming to the resort in 2020 and beyond. A magical new Frozen Celebration and the opening of Disney’s Hotel New York® – The Art of Marvel are among the can’t-miss experiences in the works. “Meeting our guests’ expectations is not enough; our goal is to exceed them,” said Daniel Delcourt, chief operating officer, Disneyland Paris. “This is what drives us to reinvent ourselves constantly and to be bold, with a desire for innovation and creativity that are at the heart of the Disney DNA.”

Here’s a sneak peek at the new must-do and must-see additions coming to Disneyland Paris:

Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel (Summer 2020)
Starting next summer, guests will be able to experience Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, celebrating 80 years of Marvel storytelling in a typical New York setting, with a contemporary Art Deco style. Inspired by a New York art gallery, the hotel pays tribute to not only the city that many iconic Marvel Super Heroes call home, but the artists who created them.

Disneyland Paris is collaborating with more 50 artists from Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios to bring together more than 300 pieces of artwork showcasing the depth of the Marvel Universe—such as comic book covers, posters, film illustrations, storyboards, and original sketches—including never-before-seen and exclusive pieces. This unprecedented renovation will include entirely redesigned rooms with a modern feel, featuring Marvel artwork in each room and a subtle nod to the legendary Iron Man in all Empire State Club rooms. Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will also have suites that go above and beyond for super fans, with suites themed to Avengers and Spider-Man. The walls will display spectacular works by Marvel artists and the furniture will include subtle references to these iconic Super Heroes. Additionally, guests staying in club rooms and suites will enjoy exclusive amenities and services.

Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will be the first Disney Hotel to host Marvel Super Heroes. In addition to encountering their favorite heroes every morning, guests can become part of the action with fun photo locations inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, and more.

Restaurants and bars celebrating the Art of Marvel will include:

Manhattan Restaurant will be an elegant and refined table service restaurant, featuring a chandelier inspired by Thor’s Asgardian Palace and a menu highlighting authentic flavors, reminiscent of a family-owned Italian trattoria, with fresh and local ingredients.
Downtown Restaurant will be a culinary journey through a cosmopolitan New York where typical American dishes will meet flavors from Chinatown and Little Italy. Guests can even watch chefs preparing meals. The restaurant will offer a selection of Marvel-inspired dishes and its walls will display 90 sketched portraits of Marvel Super Heroes.
Skyline Bar will be an elegant, typical New York martini bar, offering breathtaking views of the skyline of New York. Guests can find cocktails as well as a fine selection of wines.
Lounge Bar will be a trendy Manhattan loft-style bar, serving its patrons fresh and organic products like biodynamic wines, bottled beers from craft breweries, and more.

Guests can also take advantage of many other amenities during their stay, including:

Metro Pool: an indoor/outdoor pool complex, with a jacuzzi, sauna, and Turkish bath
Metro Health Club: a fitness center equipped with machines and sports accessories
Marvel Design Studio: a space for kids to learn how to draw Marvel Super Heroes

Marvel Super Heroes Season (March 24, 2020—June 7, 2020)
Following the success of the first two events, Marvel Super Heroes will return to Walt Disney Studios Park next spring to give guests a thrilling experience. Keep an eye out for fan-favorite characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, and Captain Marvel, among others.

Avengers Campus (2021)
First announced at D23 Expo 2019, Walt Disney Studios Park will be home to a new Marvel-themed area called Avengers Campus, part of a multi-year expansion for the park that will also include Frozen– and Star Wars-themed areas, opening in phases starting in 2021. Avengers Campus will immerse guests in action-packed adventures with incredible attractions, heroic encounters, and new restaurants. One of the highlights will be a special attraction dedicated to Spider-Man, giving guests of all ages a taste of what it’s like to have superpowers as they sling webs to help Spider-Man collect Spider-Bots that have run amok. Avengers Campus will first open in Disney’s California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort in 2020.

Frozen Celebration (January 11, 2020—May 3, 2020)
One of the most popular Disney stories will soon be coming to life at Disneyland Paris, creating a space for guests to experience even more adventures with Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and other Frozen friends. For a limited time, Disneyland Paris will take guests on an enchanting family journey with a brand-new event: Frozen Celebration. The festivities will include a dazzling new show running four times a day on the parade route starring Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, complete with incredible dancers, acrobats, and an enchanting new float! Characters from Arendelle will also take part in the Disney Stars on Parade with a Frozen-inspired float. In the evenings, the magical adventures of Anna and Elsa will come to life during Disney Illuminations.

Frozen: A Musical Invitation (November 17, 2019)
Starting this winter, a brand-new interactive adventure will open its doors at the Animation Celebration in Walt Disney Studios Park. Titled Frozen: A Musical Invitation, guests will be transported to the kingdom of Arendelle, where they will play and interact with their favorite characters across several stages. In the first room, guests will sing and learn to dance to magical moves with Anna, Kristoff, and Sven. In the second room, guests will be invited into the ice palace to sing “Let It Go” with Elsa herself. And, at Animation Celebration, guests can meet Olaf.

All-New Frozen-Themed Area (TBD)
Part of the multi-year expansion of the Walt Disney Studios Park, the new land will offer guests even more Frozen experiences. Guests will see the snow-capped mountain of Arendelle in the distance opposite a magnificent lake, with an attraction that will take them to the center of the kingdom. The area will also include character encounters, a new restaurant, and a special shop.

Disneyland Paris Princess Run (May 8–10, 2020)
Guests will meet for a new runDisney experience marking the first edition of the Disneyland Paris Princess Run. With races for runners of all ages, limited-edition medals, professional photographers, and the chance to meet Disney characters, it will be an enchanting experience.

The coming months will see several returning events, beginning with Disney’s Halloween Festival (September 28–November 3, 2019). There’ll be frights and laughter aplenty at Disneyland Park where guests can experience a new show and updated attractions—including a new version of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, which will have a new story, dazzling special effects, and new thrilling drop sequences.
