Q: When Walt Disney gave his wife Lillian a puppy in a hatbox as a Christmas present—which inspired Lady’s introduction in Lady and the Tramp—is it known what the puppy’s name was? And if so, who named it—Walt or Lillian?
Emily, Selden, New York
A: The puppy in the hatbox was a chow named Sunnee—we are not aware of who named her. The Disney family had Sunnee for a number of years, though in the 1940s they got a large poodle named Duchess Disney.
