Lightyear (film) Animated sci-fi action adventure from Pixar Animation Studios. The origin story of Buzz Lightyear, following the legendary Space Ranger after he is marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda. Inspired by sci-fi classics of the late 1970s and early 1980s. According to filmmakers, Buzz Lightyear, from the Toy Story films, had always been thought of as a character that would have originated in an epic blockbuster film; it just wasn’t until much later that Pixar decided to bring that story to the big screen. It was the first Pixar film created specifically for IMAX screens; 30 min. of footage were made in the larger IMAX aspect ratios of 1.43 and 1.90. A 34-min. making-of documentary, Beyond Infinity: Buzz and the Journey to Lightyear, was digitally released on Disney+ June 10, 2022; directed by Tony Kaplan.
