Chicago

Chicago City where Walt Disney was born, on December 5, 1901, at 1249 Tripp Avenue, a home that had been built by his father, Elias. (The houses on Tripp Avenue have been renumbered, and the Disney birthplace is now 2156 Tripp, at the corner of Palmer.) Elias started out as a carpenter in the city and eventually began building houses that were designed by his wife, Flora. He also built the church the family attended. The family moved to Missouri a few years after Walt’s birth, but returned in time for him to attend one year at McKinley High School before joining the Red Cross during World War I.
