Swamp Fox, The (Episode 1): Birth of the Swamp Fox (television) Television show; aired on October 23, 1959. Directed by Harry Keller. The first episode telling the story of the patriot, Francis Marion, who fought the British using unusual methods during the Revolutionary War. Marion learns that the British are about to attack Charleston, and he helps by leading the governor and his party safely out of the city. Eluding Tarleton in the swamps, Marion becomes known as the Swamp Fox, as he works with a band of loyal colonists to save a group of captured patriots.
