Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship and Restaurant In Fantasyland at Disneyland, from August 29, 1955 to 1969. It then became Captain Hook’s Galley until 1982. Originally, the ship was made entirely of wood, but with the wood sitting in water for so long, it began to rot. Over the years the wood was partially replaced by concrete so when it was decided to remove the ship for the remodelling of Fantasyland, it was not possible to save it. To partially appease some of the Disneyana buffs, the Imagineers did try to save elements of the ship, by carefully prying elaborate plasterwork off the stern of the ship and placing in a truck. But when the truck hit a bump, the plasterwork fell over and broke into a thousand pieces. The ship has been re-created at Disneyland Paris as Captain Hook’s Galley.
