Babbitt, Art

Babbitt, Art (1907-1992) Animator; started at Disney in 1932, and is recognized with escalating Goofy to stardom by giving the character unique mannerisms and a rather clumsy walk in such films as Mickey’s Service Station and Moving Day. He is known for his animation of the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Geppetto in Pinocchio, the stork in Dumbo, and especially the mushrooms in the Nutcracker Suite segment of Fantasia. He was instrumental in helping begin art classes for the animators. As an active proponent of unions, he left Disney in 1941 at the time of the bitter strike, returning only briefly in 1946-47.  He was named a Disney Legend in 2007.
