Area in Disney’s Animal Kingdom; opened Apr. 22, 1998. Guests explore the town of Harambe, with a guided tour of an African savanna at Kilimanjaro Safaris; dining at Tusker House Restaurant and Tamu Tamu Refreshments; and shopping at Mombasa Marketplace and Ziwani Traders. In 2014, a theater district was added, featuring Festival of the Lion King (relocated from the former Camp Minnie-Mickey), followed by the 2015 addition of Harambe Market. In 1982, an Equatorial Africa pavilion was announced for EPCOT but was never built; it was to have featured a film hosted by Alex Haley, titled Africa Rediscovered. See also Harambe.
