Geppetto (television) A two-hour musical for The Wonderful World of Disney, airing on May 7, 2000. In Villagio, the lonely toy maker, Geppetto, yearns for a son. The Blue Fairy grants him his wish by bringing Pinocchio to life, but Geppetto’s unrealistic expectations for his son cause the boy to run away and join Stomboli’s traveling puppet show. The Blue Fairy helps Geppetto in his search for Pinocchio. Geppetto is horrified to visit Idyllia–where Prof. Buonragazzo has a machine that can create the perfect child–and Pleasure Island. Eventually, Pinocchio and Geppetto are reunited. Stars Drew Carey (Geppetto), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Blue Fairy), Brent Spiner (Stromboli), Rene Auberjonois (Buonragazzo), Seth Adkins (Pinocchio), Usher Raymond (Ring Leader). There is new music by Stephen Schwartz and reuse of one song (“I’ve Got No Strings”) from the 1940 animated feature. Released on video in 2000.
