Dream Quest Images Visual-effects company acquired by Disney in May, 1996. The company used live action photography, models, and motion-control cameras, as well as the latest in digital-effects technology to enhance motion pictures. Prior to the purchase, Dream Quest had won Academy Awards for special effects in The Abyss and Total Recall. Dream Quest took over the visual-effects chores formerly performed by a department at the Disney Studios. It was merged with Disney’s in-house feature animation computer graphics unit in October 1999 and renamed the Secret Lab. In 2001, the Secret Lab name was retired and the personnel were reassigned.
