California Angels On May 18, 1995, Disney announced that it was purchasing 25 percent of the California Angels baseball team from owner, Gene Autry. The remainder of the team would be acquired after Mr. Autry’s death. The purchase took place on May 15, 1996, when Disney Sports Enterprises became Managing General Partner for the team. A $100 million renovation of Anaheim Stadium was completed in 1998. The team name was changed to the Anaheim Angels in November 1996, with new team colors and logos. After Gene Autry’s death, Disney completed its purchase of the team on March 31, 1999. See also Anaheim Angels.
