Babes in the Woods (film) Silly Symphony cartoon; released on November 19, 1932. One of the first cartoons in color. Directed by Burt Gillett. Based on the Hansel and Gretel story. Two children wandering through a forest are lured into the house of a wicked witch, who lives with her collection of creatures. The boy is changed into a spider by a potion, and just as the girl is about to be changed into a rat, she is rescued by woodland dwarfs, and she finds a potion to transform her spider brother and the creatures back into the children they once were. The children help the dwarfs turn the witch into stone with her own cauldron.
