Animation Tour Opened at Disney-MGM Studios on May 1, 1989. For the first time, guests could watch story personnel, animators, layout artists, background artists, and ink and paint technicians at work producing animated motion pictures. Large windows, and explanatory television monitors, enabled guests walking through the department to see some of the intricate work that goes into the making of an animated film, while not disturbing the artists. Guests found it fascinating. The animation staff in Florida contributed numerous scenes to the Disney animated features, and produced Off His Rockers, Trail Mix-up, and Roller Coaster Rabbit totally on their own. In the mid-1990s, they geared up to produce a complete animated feature, Mulan, by themselves. The Florida Studio was also primarily responsible for Lilo & Stitch and Brother Bear; it closed in 2004.
