West Side Story

Steven Spielberg’s take on the iconic musical—with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim—was nominated in seven categories, including Best Picture, Best Directing (Spielberg), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Ariana DeBose), and Best Costume Design (Paul Tazewell). Nightmare Alley

This documentary from Searchlight Pictures / Onyx Collective—the filmmaking debut of Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson—is up for Best Documentary Feature. Part music film, part historical record, it tells the story of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival held just 100 miles south of Woodstock.
