New Disney Channel Series Pupstruction Premieres June 14

Pupstruction, an imaginative, tune-filled new animated series from Disney Branded Television, is set to premiere Wednesday, June 14—with a simulcast on Disney Channel and Disney Junior at 8 a.m. ET. A first batch of episodes will premiere the same day on Disney+ and on-demand platforms. Check out the trailer, below!

The series follows the adventures of the Pupstruction team—a doggone hardworking construction crew ranging from some of the brawniest breeds to irresistibly cute and playful puppies. Crew leader Phinny is an innovative young corgi who dreams up some of the biggest and wildest ideas to help his town of Petsburg. The other members of Pupstruction are Luna, a comically spontaneous sheepdog; Roxy, a can-do rottweiler; and Tank, a lovable, snack-obsessed mastiff. Although Phinny might be the smallest pup on the crew, he proves that you don’t need big paws to have big ideas. Together, the Pupstruction crew uses mud, sweat, drool, and plenty of heart to build and create!

The series voice cast includes Yonas Kibreab as Phinny, Carson Minniear as Tank, Scarlett Kate Ferguson as Roxy, and newcomer Mica Zeltzer as Luna—as well as Yvette Nicole Brown as Mayor Gilmore, Bobby Moynihan as Bobby Boots, Grey DeLisle as Maya, Kari Wahlgren as Scratch, Eric Bauza as characters Harry, Sniff, and Lloyd, and Alessandra Perez as Bailey. Joining them in recently announced recurring and guest-star roles for Season 1 are Olga Merediz as Grandma Dee, Todrick Hall as Harvey Hare, Gabriel Iglesias as Felipe, and Nate Torrence as Chameleo.

Geared toward kids ages 2-7, each episode features two 11-minute stories with an original song in each episode. The main title theme song, written by series’ songwriter/composer Rob Cantor, will be released on Friday, May 12. The full digital soundtrack, Disney Junior Music: Pupstruction, featuring the theme song plus additional songs from the series, will be released by Walt Disney Records on Wednesday, June 14. Plus, Disney Consumer Products, Games and Publishing is developing product lines inspired by the series featuring apparel, figures, vehicles, role-play products, plush, books, and more!

Disney’s The Lion King Celebrates 10,000th Performance on Broadway This Weekend

Amazing news from our friends at Disney Theatrical Productions: The Lion King will play its 10,000th performance on Broadway this Saturday evening, May 6, 2023.

The show’s unprecedented popularity on Broadway is mirrored around the world: With 27 productions over its 25 years, including runs of 20+ years in Tokyo, London, and Hamburg, and on tour throughout North America, The Lion King has played nearly 60,000 performances worldwide. The Broadway production opened on November 13, 1997, and has played through four New York City mayoral administrations; five presidential administrations; and 11 Olympics!

The Lion King continues to celebrate 25 years on Broadway and—while two other Broadway show have previously reached this milestone—it marks several historic firsts: Never has a show in its 25th year been playing in so many productions around the world simultaneously and placed in the Top 5 grossing Broadway shows this long—nearly 1,300 consecutive weeks and counting. Currently, 115,000 people enjoy the show in eight productions on three continents every week. Additionally, there have been 27 productions over the life of the show, seen by a whopping 112 million people… that’s more than the combined populations of Canada, Greece, Sweden, Holland, Denmark, and Australia!

First Look and Premiere Date for Hulu’s Drag Me to Dinner

Hulu recently shared a fun first look at Drag Me to Dinner—a glamorous, messy, faux competition show that no one takes too seriously…

In each episode, two teams of successful drag queens go head-to-head to throw the most fabulous, awe-inspiring, drag-tastical dinner parties of all time, and be crowned champion by the three judges: Neil Patrick Harris (also an executive producer), Bianca Del Rio, and Haneefah Wood.

Hosted by Murray Hill (HBO’s Somebody, Somewhere), each episode has its own unique theme, as revealed by resident expert, “life of the party,” and executive producer David Burtka. Teams will focus on multiple criteria: Food & Drink, Design & Decor, and Entertainment & Overall Vibe. At the end of each episode, one team will be proclaimed the winner and walk away with the grandest “prize” in the history of television: The Glorious Golden Grater—because one team may be great, but the other is grater!

In an image from an episode of Hulu’s Drag Me to Dinner, from let to right, David Burtka is assisting drag queens Jinkx Monsoon and BenDeLaCreme as they are preparing for their dinner party. The trio is standing at a counter, which is filled with various kitchen items and containers.

Across the 10-episode series, 40 truly stunning (not to mention hilarious and talented) drag queens will be featured: Alaska, Alexis Mateo, BeBe Zahara Benet, BenDeLaCreme, Biqtch Puddin’, Chelsea Piers, Darienne Lake, Detox, Gigi Goode, Ginger Minj, Heidi N Closet, Heklina, Jackie Beat, Jaida Essence Hall, Jasmine Rice LaBeija, Jinkx Monsoon, Kiki Ball-Change, Kim Chi, Latrice Royale, Manila Luzon, Marti Gould Cummings, Mayhem Miller, Meatball, Merrie Cherry, Morgan McMichaels, Mrs. Kasha Davis, Naomi Smalls, Nina West, Peaches Christ, Peachez Iman Cummings, Pixie Aventura, Raja, Rhea Litré, Selma Nilla, Sherry Vine, Symone, Thorgy Thor, Trinity the Tuck, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, and Willam.

Drag Me to Dinner premieres Wednesday, May 31, exclusively on Hulu.

7 Times Disney Legend Jon Favreau Joined the Worlds of Disney

By Jessica Benda

Beloved live-action film reimaginings, Marvel Super Heroes, a galaxy far, far away—Disney Legend Jon Favreau has explored them all.

After all, he achieved his Disney Legend status for a reason, and with Star Wars Day, aka May the 4th, approaching, we’re looking back at his Disney repertoire. As creator of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, Favreau has guided the Disney+ Original series to smashing success as he expands the Star Wars universe. The adventure continues as he and Dave Filoni develop the upcoming series Ahsoka, which follows Anakin Skywalker’s former Padawan Ahsoka Tano.

In celebration of May the 4th, we’ve rounded up a tally of past Disney projects Favreau has contributed to as an actor/director/writer/executive producer. (Seriously, what doesn’t he do?)

In the Marvel Studios’ film Iron Man, Iron Man stands outside in his red and yellow metallic suit. He braces himself in a fighting pose and holds his right arm out, which emits a bright blast from his hand.

Iron Man Trilogy
The Marvel Cinematic Universe started with Tony Stark, a brazen billionaire who becomes the titular Super Hero. If there’s a shepherd of the now sprawling MCU, it might be Favreau, who executive produced Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man 3, of which he directed the first two. The 2008 action-adventure paved the way for over 30 more MCU films, which continue to breathe life into comic book creator and Disney Legend Stan Lee’s characters.

Happy Hogan
Along with directing, Favreau played Tony Stark’s friend, bodyguard, and head of security: Harold “Happy” Hogan. For more than a decade, Happy has been a steadfast part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in the Iron Man trilogy, Spider-Man films, and Avengers: Endgame.

In the Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers look ahead. Thor stands front and center, with Captain America and the Hulk to the left. Iron Man, Black Widow, and Hawkeye stand to his right.

The Avengers
The potential for Super Hero crossover became apparent in 2012’s The Avengers, an exhilarating yet humorous kickoff to a seven-year film series. Favreau served as an executive producer for the film and continued in the role through Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. The latter two films triumphed as the highest-grossing Marvel Studios’ offerings—and nearly the highest-grossing films of all time—with the first two installments just behind them.

In the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, small green creature Grogu looks at a part of the ship in awe. The Mandalorian holds him in his hands.

Star Wars
Favreau contributed to more than one legendary franchise. In the world of Star Wars, he guides the hugely successful series Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett. Favreau serves as a showrunner, creator, executive producer, and sometimes director and writer to bring the Disney+ Original series to life.

He spends time in front of the camera as well as behind it. Favreau snagged a seat on Solo: A Star Wars Story as he voiced Rio Durant, a four-armed Ardennian pilot. Rio and his crew crossed paths with a young Han Solo, teaming up to steal precious coaxium. He also played the Mandalorian Paz Vizla in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett and voiced Pre Vizla in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In the live-action reimagining of The Jungle Book, young boy Mowgli swings from a branch over a ravine in the jungle. The black panther Bagheera watches over him from a log that hangs over the ravine’s edge.

The Jungle Book (2016)
Disney’s lush reimagining of The Jungle Book in 2016 was a sweeping success, helmed by Favreau. As director and producer, Favreau oversaw the story of Mowgli, a boy who was raised by wolves and then pursued by the vicious tiger Shere Khan. Favreau also voiced a pygmy hog who’s friends with Baloo!

In the live-action reimagining of The Lion King, lion cubs Simba and Nala look ahead into the Elephant Graveyard, a desolate stretch of dirt and bones.

The Lion King (2019)
Considering the success of Favreau’s first live-action reimagining, it’s no surprise that he took the wheel once more. This time, he turned to the daunting task of reimagining one of Disney’s most successful animated films: The Lion King. Favreau served as director and producer to bring the Pride Lands to life.

Voice Acting
Besides being a lauded producer, director, and writer, Favreau has done a fair amount of voice acting, including in his own projects as previously noted. He’s had roles in series such as Hercules, The Legend of Tarzan, and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, as well as parts in films like G-Force.

Meet the Characters of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

By Jessica Benda

A humorous, heartfelt adventure set to a sparkling soundtrack of smile-inducing pop tunes—what else could we expect from the final chapter of Guardians of the Galaxy?

On Friday, May 5, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concludes a nearly 10-year adventure when it opens in theaters. When Rocket’s past tries to hijack his future, the Guardians band together to save him as they wrestle with their own inner battles.

Most of the story’s characters are already beloved, but there are a few new faces added to the roster for this outing. In the time since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came out in 2016, our heroes have undergone life-changing—and for one, life-ending—circumstances. Below, catch up with the characters you already know and meet the new ones.

An image of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He stares ahead with a serious expression as areas of the spaceship he stands in catch fire.

Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt)
As the galaxy’s music master and Kevin Bacon aficionado, Peter Quill is known for his easygoing nature and quick wit. This time around, he’s a bit wearier than when we saw him last. After losing Gamora and then finding her again—or at least a version of her—he wrestles with their new dynamic. As Peter struggles to move on, the Guardians are left vulnerable to attack. Now, he must make up for his mistakes to protect one of his own.

A close-up image of Rocket the raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He appears glum, and the legs of his fellow Guardians are visible in the dark background.

Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)
Rocket is the same wise-cracking, cosmic criminal we first met in Guardians of the Galaxy. Now that he’s saved the universe a few times, he’s a little wiser and more comfortable with the team. But Rocket’s past has finally caught up with him, and he must face the trauma of his early life to save more than just the Guardians.

Drax (Dave Bautista)
Drax is as lovable as ever and fiercely loyal to his chosen family, the Guardians. Having saved the universe more times than he can remember, we find him fixing up Knowhere for its community. He still struggles to understand the specifics of language and still loves to partake in superpowered violence. Some things never change.

An image of Zoe Saldaña as the green alien Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the halls of a spaceship, she kneels on the ground and looks ahead. Her left arm reaches for a weapon holstered at her hip.

Gamora (Zoe Saldaña)
The version of Gamora loved in the previous Guardians films is gone, tossed off a cliff by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Now, we learn more about the Gamora from an alternative timeline, who has not had adventures with the Guardians and has no previous relationship with Peter Quill. Since the events of Avengers: Endgame, this Gamora has aligned herself with Stakar and his Ravagers.

Nebula (Karen Gillan)
The once sadistic and still snarky Nebula has settled into her role with the Guardians of the Galaxy. After mending the rift with her sister, Gamora, and finding her place in the world, she’s far from the enemy she was in the first film. Now that the Guardians have bought Knowhere from The Collector, she is dedicated to making it the home she never had.

An image of Chukwudi Iwuji as The High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He stares over his shoulder, and while his face appears as a human, the back half of his head is seemingly made of metal.

The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji)
As the story’s villain, to say The High Evolutionary is a force to be reckoned with is a vast understatement. The character has decades of comic book history, but he’ll make his first film appearance in The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Mantis (Pom Klementieff)
In the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special—spoiler alert!—the real gift was learning that Mantis is Peter’s half-sister! This relationship brings new terrain to navigate, but Mantis’ growth expands far beyond that. After fighting many battles with the Guardians, Mantis has begun to embrace her powers, find her voice, and become confident in her role with the team—all of which will be needed to help protect her family from new dangers.

Will Poulter stands tall as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The room he stands in glows gold, while Will wears a metallic suit and red cape. His blond hair is combed to one side.

Adam Warlock (Will Poulter)
Teased in prior films, Adam Warlock comes to life for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Designed and created as the ultimate weapon, he’s a powerful adversary for the Guardians.

Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel)
Groot is a vital part of the team, and we’ve watched him regrow throughout the Guardians’ recent adventures, after he sacrificed himself for his friends in the first Guardians movie. Now, he’s at a new stage in his life—think high school senior just about to graduate. He uses his new body to help build Knowhere and protect his family, and he’s locked and loaded with bigger and more advanced skills that come in handy for the Guardians!

An image of Sean Gunn as Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Channeling his metallic mohawk, he shuts his eyes and grips the Yaka arrow to concentrate. Around him, people are running through a chaotic marketplace.

Kraglin (Sean Gunn)
We first met the former first mate of the Ravager Yondu in the first Guardians of the Galaxy—and how he’s grown since then! Kraglin fought alongside the Avengers against Thanos, and now as an official member of the Guardians, he must master the Yaka arrow to fulfill his potential.

An image of Cosmo the space dog in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. She sits and looks up eagerly, wearing her white CCCP spacesuit. She has fluffy ears, red fur, and a long snout.

Cosmo, the space dog (voiced by Maria Bakalova)
A new fan favorite, Cosmo was sent into space by the Soviet Union and wound up with the Collector. She made her official debut in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, where she practiced her telekinesis as Rocket coached. Luckily, she’s fetching another round of screentime in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!

To celebrate this rockstar release, we’re diving into the track list and giving you the scoop on Gaya and just a few of the enthralling stories of style, power, and love told through her incredible songs. Get your hands off those hyperspace controls because we’re taking it low and slow—sublight style.

“Welcome to the New World”
What better song to open with on the Halcyon? “Welcome to the New World” embraces the mystery and magic of new horizons and the connections we all share across the galaxy. Through this song, Gaya creates a powerful connection with her audience. It is both an introduction to and an invitation to join her in… a new world—her world.

“Gaya!”
Gaya makes no secret of her past. She is proud of her roots in the underground and what she’s achieved on her meteoric rise. This may be her namesake song, but hearing her name echo across the galaxy is not about her own fame and fortune. “Gaya!” is a celebration of knowing what you want, facing challenges to get it, and fighting for what you believe.

“Hayananeya”
“Hayananeya” refers to one of Ryloth’s sacred “singing stones.” Twi’lek legend holds that the songs of these stones were intoned to the vibrations of the galaxy itself, and that they held mystical powers of navigation. The singing stones have long been lost to Ryloth’s turbulent history of invasion and occupation. In this powerful anthem, Gaya hears the song of the Hayananeya stone and calls out to it, wishing for its return to its rightful home of Ryloth.

“Coaxium”
While on its surface, it might seem like a song about the fuel that enables hyperspace travel, at its core “Coaxium” is truly about power: who has it, how it’s leveraged, and the ability of power to bring freedom and take you anywhere in life.

“Poverty of Love”
A deeply meaningful song to Gaya, “Poverty of Love” is an intimate look into the shadows just behind the dazzling light of a superstar. From the top, you can see everything—and remember what was lost on the way up.

“Rockstar Queen”
When this song hit the holonet, it took the galaxy by solar storm. A dance craze was born—the Ryloth Slide—that’s easy to learn and hard to resist. No matter how you get around—feet, wheels, or tentacles—“Rockstar Queen” will get you moving. You know you’re a rockstar…now it’s time to show the galaxy.

“Oola Shuka”
Written in Gaya’s native tongue, “Oola Shuka” celebrates her Twi’lek culture. It translates to “Free Yourself,” in a fusion of rhythmic stylings with diverse voices and languages from across the galaxy. It’s a hypersonic hit heard in cantinas from the core worlds to the Outer Rim! If you’re wondering where you’ve heard it before, it’s a favorite of DJ R-3X at Oga’s Cantina in Black Spire Outpost!

Gaya has faced her share of tribulation and ambition. Her experiences spark tremendous depth in her songs and ground them all in the honesty and gravity of her personal history. Truth be told, Gaya wants nothing more than to bring hope to her people. And by association, her music gives hope to anyone across the galaxy looking to make their mark and become the master of their own interstellar destiny.

Don’t forget to stream Gaya starting May the 4th. And to see her incredible performance for yourself, find out how you can live your adventure aboard the Halcyon at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to go sing our lekku off to “Poverty of Love”!

9 Memorable Moments from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Press Conference

By Courtney Potter

It’s almost time for our beloved Guardians to face the music.

In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, written and directed by James Gunn, the iconic band of misfits we know and love are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s (voiced by Bradley Cooper) turbulent past. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), still reeling from the loss of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

To celebrate the film’s approaching release, Pratt and Gunn were joined by returning stars Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Karen Gillan (Nebula), and Sean Gunn (Kraglin), as well as newcomers Maria Bakalova (who voices Cosmo), Will Poulter (Adam Warlock), and Chukwudi Iwuji (The High Evolutionary)—plus producer and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige—for a rollicking virtual press conference on Friday, April 28, where the group shared hilarious and heartfelt stories about the making of the film... and the end of an almost decade-long era. And just who was their moderator? None other than actor (and huge Disney fan!) Nathan Fillion, who appears in the film as Master Karja. Read on for some of the morning’s more memorable moments!

In an image from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is looking intently off screen to the left. There is fire behind him, as if a battle has just been waged.

Pratt on Peter Quill aka Star-Lord’s journey this time ’round:
“I think oftentimes we find ourselves in our relationships or in the affiliations we have with a team or a family or whatever,” Pratt explains. “Peter’s been lost. In the beginning he was running away from the death of his mother, but he got to pretend to be this character [Star-Lord] based on these pop culture icons of his childhood, of the late 1980s. So he ‘found’ himself there, but it was kind of [fake], you know? Then he ‘found’ himself with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and then he thought he could find himself with who his father was. He’s a guy who’s constantly been searching for who he is. Then he found it again in his relationship with Gamora. So when all that’s stripped away from him, he’s a guy who’s realizing that all of these very various people that he’s found who ‘are’ Quill—none of them have been the real him. And so he is lost—and that probably does mean that he’s sad. But that’s a beautiful quest.”

Klementieff on what Mantis has brought to her, both as an actress and as a person:
“James changed my life,” she says. “Mantis is an empath—so you have to have a deeper connection with everything and everyone; it’s beautiful to tap into those deep, profound, layered emotions. And then I got to be super weird, which is really fun to do too. And it comes naturally to me,” she adds, laughing.

She continues, “I love playing this character and I’m so grateful for James to have given me this opportunity—and to get to play with all these incredible actors. And I think, each character completes the other ones too..? And I remember James telling me that Mantis was kind of like the glue that kept the Guardians together in some ways, which I think is beautiful. And I think the world lacks a lot of empathy too—so that’s a beautiful message too.”

Gillan on Nebula’s relationship with Gamora, and her chance to blossom within the Guardians family:
“Post-Thanos being eliminated from her life, she’s starting to flourish a little bit more,” admits Gillan. “And she’s starting to have a lighter personality, and she’s a little more willing to show vulnerability... It also changed my understanding of what it’s like to be a scapegoat sibling—I’m an only child—because Nebula was definitely that. She was never the ‘golden child,’ so that was an interesting exploration for me. Now I just have so much respect for people that have gone through that.”

“Nebula was always the kind of bitter one; so jealous of Gamora,” she continues. “And then she evolved, and Gamora helped her gain some compassion along the way—and now they’ve kind of switched places in a way, which has been really interesting to play around with. But it’s been beautiful to watch their relationship evolve.”

In an image from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) is walking with purpose in some sort of spaceship toward something to the right, offscreen. A cape billows behind him, and his hands are clenched into fists. His skin shimmers with a golden hue.

Sean Gunn on Kraglin finding his place during the course of the trilogy:
As he explains, “One thing that really impresses me about these movies is how I do feel like, in a way, the journey of the cast has mirrored the journey of the characters. For me, being there in the first movie and feeling like, ‘Oh, I’m the director’s brother, and Kraglin is just kind of on the peripheral, and he comes in and says his things here and there.’ And then, over the course of the movies, I started feeling at home with all these people—I felt fully accepted as a full member of the cast, and of the group. And that’s what happens with Kraglin himself over the course of the films. So that’s really special and really cool for me... Kraglin’s journey to learn why he belongs is the best. It’s my favorite thing about him.”

Bakalova on playing the role of Cosmo:
“When I got the call from my team that I got the job, I was on my phone and I didn’t know what to do,” the actress admits, “and what to expect. And I think I started jumping [up and down]. And then when I found out that I can be on set and work in a motion capture suit—[it was like I was] a child again; using my imagination to think, ‘Okay, today I’m going to be a dog; tomorrow, I’ll be a flower! The next day, I’m going to be a butterfly!’ It’s interesting; we tend to forget about imagination when we grow up. So it’s been just incredible.”

James Gunn adds, “Maria came, and she’d sit on set every day, all day long. She’d come and she’d do her bit as Cosmo, and then she’d sit with me all day long. So even though she’s not the biggest character in the movie, I spent more time with Maria than almost anyone here! She just loves being on set and watching all the other actors. And she is an absolute joy to be around in every way.”

Poulter on being the “new kid”—especially as a fan of the Guardians films:
“I couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome by everybody,” he explains. “I was nervous from the outside looking in, I think, because I was a really big fan of the Guardians movies and—within the Marvel Cinematic Universe—this was the trilogy, as it now is, of films that I was the biggest admirer of. So you look at something as a fan and you think it’s cool to be able to appreciate that as a fan, and that’s what it will always be. You don’t imagine yourself being a part of it! That in itself is exciting.”

He continues, “James makes a point of making set a really fun environment. He surrounds himself with really great people, across every department—and it just made the experience so, so fun, which is important, because there’s pressure, and—as a new kid—I was pretty scared. So that made it easy.”

In an image from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) is leaning over and looking off camera toward the right. He is on a spaceship of some kind.

Iwuji on finding unique inspiration for his character, The High Evolutionary:
“The first thing that’s written [in the script] when you meet him is him listening to space opera,” says Iwuji. “So immediately I knew classical music was going to be a big part of this character. And because I didn’t know where I was going to go with him, I thought I would just listen to a lot of my favorite arias and classical music—and sent them to James, and one or two of them made it into the film. So a lot of finding this guy, for me, was: If he’s listening to opera, if he’s [into] space opera, and he’s this mad scientist sort of person—I just thought of someone that doesn’t sleep. That’s someone that is obsessed with it; listening to this music.”

He continues, “He needs the music as he wanders through his castle at night. And I thought very deeply about [Shakespeare’s] Henry the Fourth. He has a great speech: ‘Heavy is the head that wears the crown. How many thousands of my poorest subjects are at this moment to sleep?’ And I sent that to James. So that’s why it wasn’t really about specifically, ‘How do I play the character written?’ It’s more about, ‘How do I bring this guy into the room?’ Because I knew that would be taken care of in the script. The motivations and the moments and stuff are impeccably written because [James] deals with character.”

Feige on his “mission statement” when it comes to the Guardians:
“The goal has always been to do justice for the audience members who have loved these characters their whole lives and the audience members who’ve never heard of these characters—or who heard of them for the first time in the trailer, or in the poster, which for Guardians in particular was certainly the majority of the audience. Now on the flip side of that, there are people who go, ‘Well, folks don’t really know the Guardians, so you really have a lot of leeway to do new things,’—which you do. But James was constantly going to the comics and constantly referring to them and constantly building off of those storylines. So people who did know these characters from [either] the more recent comics run, at the time, or the early run, saw things they could get excited about. [That’s] just as important as people who never heard of this crazy space band with a tree and a raccoon.”

In a behind-the-scenes image from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, director James Gunn (in blue mask, with white spiky hair, holding a camera) directs Karen Gillan as Nebula (left) and Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (right) on set. Another crew member stands behind and to the left of Gunn.

James Gunn on what he’ll take away from his years-long Guardians experience:
“It’s changed me in so many ways,” the director admits. “I mean, everything I’ve learned from Kevin and Louis [D’Esposito, executive producer]. I think also in terms of just this family of people. I’ve been really good at hiring non-jerks—not only non-jerks, but people who are actually positive, compassionate, loving, kind people. I’ve just grown incredibly close to these people. I really love them, and it makes making movies a much more pleasant experience. So my main memories are not going to the premieres or going on these press junkets—they’re being on set and having the little moments. It’s doing bits with Chris in between setups; it’s talking to Sean; it’s watching Chukwudi turn in an amazing performance; it’s goofing around with Pom, wondering what the hell she’s talking about,” he adds, laughing. “These are the moments.”

“I’m going to miss the characters—that’s the saddest part for me,” Gunn continues. “I really, truly love these characters.”

Our 15 Favorite Iron Man Quotes from the MCU

By Zach Johnson

Fifteen years ago, Iron Man launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the introduction of everyone’s favorite genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist: Tony Stark. Played by Disney Legend Robert Downey Jr., Tony aka Iron Man is as witty as he is heroic—and that’s saying something! To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the film—which was added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in 2022—we’ve curated our 15 favorite quotes from all of his MCU appearances, in chronological order.

Iron Man (2008)

  1. “Iron Man… that’s kinda catchy. It’s got a nice ring to it. I mean, it’s not technically accurate; the suit’s a gold-titanium alloy. But, it’s kind of evocative of the imagery.”
  2. “The truth is… I am Iron Man.”

Iron Man 2 (2010)

  1. “I told you, I don’t want to join your super-secret boy band.”

Marvel’s The Avengers (2012)

  1. “Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?”
  2. “That man is playing Galaga! He thought we wouldn’t notice… but we did.”
  3. “It’s good to meet you, Dr. Banner. Your work on anti-electron collisions is unparalleled. And I’m a huge fan of how you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster.”
  4. “The Avengers. That’s what we call ourselves; we’re sort of like a team. ‘Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’-type thing.”

Iron Man 3 (2013)

  1. “So, if I were to wrap this up tight with a bow or whatever, I guess I’d say my armor, it was never a distraction or a hobby: it was a cocoon. And now, I’m a changed man. You can take away my house, all my tricks and toys. One thing you can’t take away? I am Iron Man.”

In a scene from Captain America: Civil War, Robert Downey Jr. plays Iron Man. He is wearing a red and gold metal suit. His helmet is off and his right cheek is bruised.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

  1. “Actually, he’s the boss. I just pay for everything and design everything and make everyone look cooler.”

 Captain America: Civil War (2016)

  1. “OK, anybody on our side hiding any shocking or fantastic abilities they’d like to disclose? I’m open to suggestions.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

  1. “If you’re nothing without the suit, then you shouldn’t have it.”*

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
