Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building Brings Us “Angel in Flip-Flops”

Fans of Hulu’s hit series Only Murders in the Building—hey, that’s us!—have been clamoring to hear Charles-Haden Savage’s (Disney Legend Steve Martin) “hit” song, “Angel in Flip-Flops,” ever since it was mentioned in this season’s fourth episode… and lo, that day has come!

Hulu just released a music video for the song, which was said to have debuted at No. 83 on the German music charts in 1989. In reality, the tune was written by Martin and Kirker Butler, and produced by Late Night with David Letterman stalwart Paul Schaffer.

“I am as proud of ‘Angel in Flip Flops’ as I am of any work I’ve done that is not that good,” said Martin, who also serves as co-creator and executive producer for Only Murders in the Building.

H.E.R. Cast as Belle in ABC’s Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration Special

ABC announced this week that five-time Grammy® and Academy Award®-winning singer-songwriter H.E.R. has been cast as Belle in the network’s upcoming animated and live-action blended special Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration. Presented by The Wonderful World of Disney, the two-hour reimagining of the classic story will be taped in front of a live audience at Disney Studios and will air on Thursday, December 15, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC and will stream on Disney+ the next day.

As previously announced, Jon M. Chu will executive produce the special, with Hamish Hamilton set to direct. H.E.R.’s casting marks the first time an Afro-Filipina woman will play the role of Belle onscreen. The rest of the talented cast, whose original performances will be seamlessly woven through the original animated feature, will be announced at a later date.

“I can’t believe I get to be a part of the Beauty and the Beast legacy. The world will see a Black and Filipino Belle,” H.E.R. said. “I have always wanted to be a Disney Princess.”

Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration is produced by Done+Dusted in association with Walt Disney Television Alternative and Electric Somewhere. Chu, Caitlin Foito, Hamilton, Raj Kapoor, Richard Kraft and Katy Mullan are executive producers and H.E.R. is a producer.

Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear to Stream on Disney+ Beginning Next Month

Yes, it’s true: Earlier this week, Disney+ revealed plans to stream Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear beginning Wednesday, August 3! “Lightyear looks amazing on the big screen, of course, but we are so excited to bring it to Disney+,” said director Angus MacLane. “We devoted years of our lives to this film and we are so proud of it. We want to share it with as many people as possible. Disney+ not only gives more fans an opportunity to see Lightyear, it gives us all the means to see it again and again.”

A sci-fi action adventure and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans), the hero who inspired the toy, Lightyear follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox (voiced by Peter Sohn). Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg (voiced by James Brolin), an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

Mark those streaming calendars, y’all!
