The Disney Sunday Movie Debuts on ABC

Walt Disney Presents, Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, Disney’s Wonderful World, Walt Disney, and The Magical World of Disney are some of the titles that were given to the anthology series started by Walt Disney. On this day in 1986, the tradition carried on as The Disney Sunday Movie made its debut on ABC television. This new installment would once again feature classic Disney films along with all-new original shows, created just for the series. In “Help Wanted: Kids,” the debut episode, married couple Tom and Lisa Burke learn that Tom’s boss wants all his employees to have kids, and through a misunderstanding, believed Tom was a parent. So the Burkes decide to rent some children. Tom and Lisa were portrayed by real-life husband and wife, Bill Hudson, who found fame as part of the Hudson Brothers, a musical group who had their own television variety show in the 1970s, and Cindy Williams, best known as Shirley Feeney in the 1970s-’80s TV series Laverne and Shirley.
