Midget Autopia

Midget Autopia Opens at Disneyland

The Midget Autopia was “geared” towards Disneyland’s youngest Guests when the attraction opened in 1957. Not only was it intended for kids, but even parents were not allowed to ride along. Always striving to have attractions that could be enjoyed by the whole family, Walt Disney supposedly was disappointed with it because only children could ride. After the attraction closed in 1966, it was donated to Walt’s boyhood hometown of Marceline, Missouri where it was installed in the Walt Disney Park. Today, if you’re visiting Disneyland, you can still get a glimpse of a Midget Autopia car. Just hop in and take a drive, where just off the side of the road you’ll see a statue of an actual original bronzed Midget Autopia car on a pedestal.
