Steve Martin in Father of the Bride

Father of the Bride is released

After 22 years of being a father to his little girl, Annie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), George Banks (Steve Martin) finds it hard to cope with the fact that she is all grown up and engaged to be married. Unable to warm up to his future son-in-law, Bryan MacKenzie (George Newbern), George grumbles every step of the way during the wedding planning process. A flamboyant wedding adviser named Franck (Martin Short) only makes matters worse, as he pays little attention to the Banks’ budget and insists on bigger and better…well, just about everything. However, the wedding does eventually happen, and George comes to accept the new couple. Father of the Bride was directed by Charles Shyer and released theatrically on December 20, 1991. The movie was based on a novel by Edward Streeter, and is a remake of a 1950 MGM motion picture that starred Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Joan Bennett.
