On this day in 1986, Captain EO, a new dimension in entertainment, debuted at Disneyland for the press (it launched for the public the following day). To celebrate the arrival of the new 3D film sensation, Disneyland held a 60-hour press party—staying open from 10 a.m. on September 19 until 10 p.m. on September 21. To distinguish between guests attending for the party and one-day Guests, Captain EO wristbands were distributed. Each party guest received a coupon, to be validated when they saw the film, which they could then redeem for a complimentary starfighter t-shirt. With the park operating continuously for three days, attractions were cycled out to close temporarily for safety checks and maintenance throughout the event. The general consensus of those who attended is that the party was fun and outragEOus!
