Blue Bayou Restaurant Opens at Disneyland

With the opening of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction on this day in 1967, Disneyland guests could dine at the Blue Bayou with sounds of frogs and crickets, the water gently lapping on the shore, and the continuous passing of passenger boats. Gary Maggetti, once general manager in Disneyland’s Food and Beverage department, mentioned another interesting fact about the Bayou. “Most guests know that the Blue Bayou restaurant in New Orleans Square is world famous for its perpetual twilight atmosphere inside and home to the Monte Cristo sandwich, but what is lesser known is that the restaurant takes the honor of the most wedding proposals at Disneyland, competing with the Snow White Wishing Well in Fantasyland.”
