The follow-up to the smash hit movie Aladdin materialized on this date in the direct-to-video sequel The Return of Jafar. This story takes place where Aladdin ended, with Jafar as a genie trapped inside a lamp. When he is released, he quickly plots revenge against Aladdin. Produced by Disney’s Television Animation group, this film has its place in Disney history as the first direct-to-video sequel. Many of the original voice cast returned to reprise their roles as Aladdin, Jasmine, Iago, Abu, and Jafar. Dan Castellaneta, best known as the voice of Homer Simpson, took over the role previously voiced by Robin Williams of the ever-impressive, long-contained, often-imitated but never-duplicated genie of the lamp.
