Elderly and lovable Bootle Beetle narrates the tale of The Greener Yard, the Donald Duck cartoon short that crawled into theaters on this day in 1949.
Starting out cooking dinner for his son,
the younger beetle just wasn’t in the mood for “bean” for dinner and was hoping for a tastier meal.
The elder beetle reminisces about the time he came across an abundance of delicious food, but he then had to contend with Donald Duck, whose property he found the food on. The younger beetle realizes he should be happy with what he has, but is still surprised with watermelon for dessert. Bootle Beetle made his screen debut in the 1947 cartoon short Bootle Beetle and went on to also appear in Sea Salts and Morris The Midget Moose.
