Greek mythology tells us of King Midas, who could turn anything he touched into gold and from which the term the “Midas touch” was coined. It was Midas who was tapped to be the star of the animated Silly Symphony The Golden Touch. This golden featurette was, appropriately, the 50th Silly Symphony and debuted on March 22, 1935. Directorial duties for this short went to somebody who could turn some things he touched into gold, Walt Disney, the last film he would personally direct.
