You love music and parties and grab the mic first on karaoke night. You have an appreciation for cultural history, as well as the sounds of the moment. You’re the perfect fit for this reality-based series hosted by Kristen Bell that reunites cast members from high school musical productions for one encore performance many years later.
THE PROUD FAMILY: LOUDER AND PROUDER

Family is important to you, as is fairness—and you don’t mind a good laugh now and then, either. You need to be watching the return of Penny Proud and her family in this Disney+ original animated series. And if that’s not enough, you can also check out two seasons of the original Proud Family series as well as The Proud Family Movie, all on Disney+!
DOOGIE KAMEALOHA, M.D.

Magical D23 Member Punch Recipe

Celebrate D23 Member Appreciation Week with this magical drink that transforms before your eyes! See how the drink transforms from pink and blue to purple with just a stir.

Ingredients

  • 52 oz jug of lemonade
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 2 tbsp butterfly pea tea flowers
  • 6 round strawberries (for garnish)
  • 1 tsp edible glitter (optional)

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the butterfly pea tea

  1. Boil about 4 cups of water in a kettle or saucepan. Add the butterfly pea tea flowers and brew for 5 minutes. Strain to remove the tea flowers and set aside to cool.

Step 2: Make the strawberry lemonade

  1. In a blender or food processor, blend the 2 cups strawberries until smooth. Strain the mixture to remove the seeds and any large pieces of pulp.
  2. Add the strawberry puree to the lemonade and mix until combined.
  3. If desired, add the edible glitter and again mix until combined.

Step 5: Assemble

  1. Fill 6 glasses with ice. Pour in the strawberry lemonade, leaving about an inch of space at the top of each glass.
  2. Top each glass with the blue butterfly pea tea. In order to create a clean separation of the liquids, pour the tea onto a spoon held over the glass, instead of directly into the glass itself.
  3. To create the Mickey-shaped garnish, slice each of the remaining strawberries into 1-cm wide round slices. Use a toothpick to attach two smaller slices onto a larger slice, creating the Mickey Mouse silhouette. Place one on the rim of each glass.
  4. To see the magical color change, stir each glass to combine the lemonade and the tea, creating a vibrant violet color!

5 Fantastic Things to Watch This Week

By Andie Hagemann

This week’s content is packed with Super Heroes! Beginning Wednesday, March 16, fan-favorite live-action Marvel series are coming to Disney+ for your binging pleasure. To prepare for this week’s ultimate marathon, learn more about five of the seven titles joining the streaming service—Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Defenders. Due to the maturity of these titles, Disney+ will release an update to its Parental Controls in the U.S. on March 16 that prompts all subscribers to update their settings.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (2013-2020)
The worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division) employs an elite team of agents who investigate strange occurrences around the globe… and beyond. Each member of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings a unique ability to the group while they work together to protect the defenseless from Hydra. The seven-season series stars Disney Legend Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons, Iain De Castecker as Leo Fitz, Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie, Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, and Brett Dalton as Grant Ward. Oh, and who could forget all those guest stars?

Daredevil (2015-2018)
Blinded in an accident as a child, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) uses his heightened senses as the vigilante, Daredevil, to fight crime on the streets of New York at night in this three-season series. Murdock’s day job as an attorney requires him to have faith in the criminal justice system, but his alter ego disagrees, leading him to take the law into his own hands.

Jessica Jones (2015-2019)
After her Super Hero career ends abruptly, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) moves to New York City and opens her own detective agency, Alias Investigations. In the three-season series, Jessica wants to help those in need, but her primary interest isn’t saving the world; it’s getting through each day while suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. This series is intended for a mature audience.

Luke Cage (2016-2018)
The action-packed drama series follows Luke Cage (Mike Colter), a man with super strength and unbreakable skin caused by a sabotaged experiment. After a failed relationship with Jessica Jones, Cage moves to Harlem, New York, for a new chapter in his life. However, his plans for a quieter life are soon dashed when Luke is called upon to defend the city… and is forced to address his past. This two-season series is intended for a mature audience.

The Defenders (2017)
After working on their own solo missions, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (a.k.a. Danny Rand, played by Finn Jones) team up to form a supergroup called The Defenders to save New York City from the Hand in this eight-episode limited series.

Yep, That’s Her! Raven’s Coming Home in Show’s Fifth Season

That’s So Raven fans: rejoice! The Baxter family is packing up their lives in Chicago and heading back to their roots in the Bay area in the new season of Raven’s Home.

Just when you thought the show couldn’t get any better, the beloved Disney Channel psychic is returning to her iconic childhood home in the heart of San Francisco—and she’s bringing along a few special guests, too.

Victor Baxter, Raven’s goofy and hilarious dad, played by Rondell Sheridan, was an instrumental part of the original 2003-2007 show. He will be returning to reprise his character in season five of Raven’s Home, when Raven moves in to take care of him after a mild health scare.

Raven’s Home is also introducing Felix Avitia as teen neighbor named Neil. When Raven’s son, Booker, is thrown into her old high school in a strange city, Neil helps him navigate through the ups and downs of being a teenager.

They’re not the only new additions viewers will see this season. Mykal-Michelle Harris joins the cast as Raven’s significantly younger cousin, Alice. The character is wise beyond her years, bringing witty moments to the show as Raven begins to raise her with help from her babysitter, Ivy (Emmy Liu-Wang).

As always, Raven’s Home is sure to bring us consistent laughter especially now that our favorite psychic family is back under one very familiar roof again.

You can stream season five starting March 11 on Disney+.

New Polar Bear Trailer from Disneynature—Plus More in News Briefs

By Courtney Potter

Adventure Awaits—Disneynature’s Polar Bear Coming Soon to Disney+

Are you ready to meet an adorable (albeit powerfully protective) polar bear mom and her cute, inquisitive cubs? Earlier this week, Disney+ debuted a new trailer for Disneynature’s all-new feature film Polar Bear, which premieres exclusively on the streamer beginning April 22, as part of their big Earth Day celebration.

Narrated by two-time Academy Award®–nominee Catherine Keener, Polar Bear tells the story of a new mother whose memories of her own youth prepare her to navigate motherhood in the increasingly challenging world that polar bears face today. Directed by Alastair Fothergill and Jeff Wilson, the team behind Disneynature’s Penguins, and produced by Fothergill, Wilson, and Roy Conli, Polar Bear, along with Explorer: The Last Tepui and The Biggest Little Farm: The Return from National Geographic, will debut on Earth Day and take Disney+ viewers on a journey around the world—from the rainforests of Guyana to the farms of California to the icy tundras of the Arctic—to witness and celebrate the diversity and resilience of our planet and the species that inhabit it.

But that’s not all: Disneynature also revealed that in honor of the film’s majestic and extraordinarily resilient stars, Disneynature and the Disney Conservation Fund will continue their longstanding commitment to caring for wildlife and their habitats by supporting Polar Bears International (PBI) in their efforts to help protect polar bears as well as their Arctic home.

So mark those calendars, and join the Earth Day celebration beginning April 22.

French Comedy Series Weekend Family Now Streaming on Disney+

Take in the sights—as well as the comedy—of France without ever leaving the comfort of your couch… All eight episodes of the first French Disney+ Original series, Weekend Family, are now streaming exclusively on the service. Disney+ also debuted the official trailer for the series, above.

The series follows the exploits of a chaotic, endearing “super-blended” family. Every weekend, fun-loving Fred (Eric Judor) has custody of his three very different daughters—idealistic Clara (Liona Bordonaro), quirky Victoire (Midie Dreyfus), and demanding Romy (Roxane Barrazuol). This would be complicated enough, but their three mothers (Annelise Hesme, Jeanne Bournaud, and Annabel Lopez) and Fred’s best friend Stan (Hafid F. Benamar) are always on the scene as well—making the weekends even more frenetic. But Fred has fallen in love again, and he wants his girlfriend Emmanuelle (Daphné Côté Hallé)—a Canadian emigrant with no experience of parenting and only a half-finished Ph.D. in child psychology—to move in with him. With the support of Fred and the not-so-helpful advice of her own best friend, Cora (Sephora Pondi), Emmanuelle will have to put her books and theories aside and find her own way as stepmother to this crazy weekend family.

Directed by Pierre-François Martin-Laval and Sophie Reine, the series was created by Baptiste Filleul.

Meet the Characters of Turning Red

The D23 Team

Disney and Pixar’s all-new original animated feature Turning Red will introduce audiences to Meilin Lee—a confident, slightly dorky 13-year-old with a solid group of friends, a more-than-admirable record in school, and a better-than-average relationship with her family... well, for the most part. That includes her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming. So naturally, Meilin—Mei to her friends—has every reason to expect smooth sailing throughout the rest of her middle-school career. But there’s a hitch. Mei discovers that this phase of growing up is marked in an unexpected, totally-can’t-hide-from-it, larger-than-life way... whenever her emotions get the better of her, she “poofs” into a giant red panda!

Let’s take a closer look at Mei and her family and friends, in advance of the film’s big debut this Friday:

Meilin Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang)
Mei is a middle-school force of nature. Exuberant, ambitious, and over-achieving, Chinese-Canadian Meilin excels at school and at home. Her posse of loyal besties always has her back; they also share a borderline out-of-control obsession with boy band 4*Town—but what 13-year-old doesn’t? At home, Mei is a dutiful and driven keeper of the ancestral family temple, working contentedly alongside her mother, Ming. But when the teen mysteriously begins to “poof” into a giant, uber-emotional red panda at the most inconvenient times, a gulf opens up between Mei and her mom, forcing a reckoning between Mei’s two selves: the spirited teenager and the obedient daughter. “She’s spunky, confident, nerdy, passionate, weird, and a little bit snooty,” says director Domee Shi of her main character. “When I was her age, I was Mei.”

Red Panda Mei
...is the same Mei her friends and family know and love—but in the form of an unpredictable, eight-foot-tall, smelly, and inadvertently destructive red panda. She may be fluffy and impossibly cute, but Red Panda Mei represents Mei at her most vulnerable, and messy, true self. “We’re basically using the red panda as an adorable metaphor for the very unadorable phenomenon of puberty,” Shi says.

Ming Lee (voice of Sandra Oh)
Ming is a proud wife, devoted mother, and hardworking keeper of the Lee Family Temple in Toronto’s Chinatown. Elegantly turned out and poised at all times, Ming takes her professional duties seriously—but she’s even more dedicated to keeping an eye on her precious daughter, Meilin. There’s no doubt: Ming is fierce, stubborn, funny, controlling, and—as Mei would put it—a lot, but the deep love she has for her family is always apparent. “Ming is a compilation of all of the very strong and awesome Asian women in my life,” says Shi. “Ming can be intense, but all of the crazy stuff she does is motivated by her love for her daughter.”

Jin Lee (voice of Orion Lee)
Jin—the quiet, steady presence in the Lee family—works hard and aspires to a life of simple pleasures: cooking a good meal for his family, sneaking the occasional donut, and gardening. He’s a necessary balance to his strong-willed wife Ming, and a doting and loving father to his daughter Mei. But when an ancient phenomenon throws his family into chaos, Jin’s quiet life is upended.

Abby (voice of Hyein Park) (pictured left)
Abby is a stick of dynamite—a fierce-but-tiny warrior who will not hesitate to launch herself at anyone who threatens her besties. The opposite of shy, Abby is not afraid to be heard. She does have a soft spot for Red Panda Mei, however... all that extreme fluff is just too hard not to hug.

Priya (voice of Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) (pictured to left of Mei)
Priya is meticulous yet artsy, passionate yet stoic. She’s a quiet wild card with a deadpan sense of humor and a calm and collected approach to school, friendship, and just about anything—except 4*Town. Even Priya can’t contain her love of 4*Town.

Miriam (voice of Ava Morse) (pictured right)
Miriam is loyal, easygoing, and a total goof who can make her besties laugh when they need it most. A bit of a tomboy, Miriam regularly rocks a flannel shirt and slouchy cap, and she shares her friends’ obsession with boy band 4*Town. Mei’s mom, however, is not a fan of Miriam. Ming sees Miriam as a threat to her relationship with her daughter, despite the girl’s stellar support for Mei.

4*Town
The hottest, coolest boy band of all time, the five guys of 4*Town are behind songs like “Nobody Like U”—the single from their latest album that’s climbing all the charts. Their concerts are truly epic, featuring high-flying theatrics, lights, pyrotechnics, and of course the boys’ dreamy good looks. The voices behind 4*Town include Jordan Fisher as Robaire, Finneas O’Connell as Jesse, Topher Ngo as Aaron T., Grayson Villanueva as Tae Young, and Josh Levi as Aaron Z.

Turning Red premieres exclusively on Disney+ Friday, March 11!

D23 Mickey Macarons Recipe

Celebrate D23 Member Appreciation Week with these delicious French macarons shaped like our pal Mickey Mouse!

Ingredients & Equipment

For cookies:

  • 3 large egg whites (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 5-10 drops blue food coloring

For buttercream:

  • 3/4 cup butter (softened)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • 5-10 drops blue food coloring

For stencil (optional):

  • Gold edible color spray (available at craft stores or online)
  • Printer paper
  • Precision hobby knife

Directions

Step 1: Make the cookies

  1. Place the egg whites in a large bowl and begin to whisk using an electric mixer. Once the eggs begin to foam, add the cream of tartar. Then begin to add the granulated sugar very slowly, spoonful by spoonful.
  2. Once soft peaks have formed, add the food coloring and vanilla. Continue to beat until stiff peaks form. When the mixture is ready, you should be able to hold the bowl upside without spilling any.
  3. In another large bowl, sift the powdered sugar and almond flour and whisk to combine. If the almond flour is not fine enough for the sieve, pulse it in a food processor or blender until fine.
  4. Add 1/3 of the dry ingredients to the merengue mixture and begin folding the mixture by scraping the sides and cutting down the center of the bowl. Once combined, add half of the remaining dry ingredients and continue folding. Then add the remaining dry ingredients and continue folding gently.
  5. When the mixture is ready, the wet and dry ingredients should be fully combined and the mixture should have a lava-like consistency. Spoon the mixture into a piping bag with a large round piping tip.
  6. On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, begin piping your macarons. Leave about 1 inch of space between each cookie. To form the Mickey shape, pipe one large dollop followed by two small dollops for ears. The mixture will spread slightly after it’s been piped, so allow yourself extra room between the ears and the head as you pipe.
  7. Once piped, tap the baking sheet on the counter several times to release any air bubbles. Then let sit at room temperature for 45 minutes. When ready, the macarons should have a shell that is delicate but dry to the touch.
  8. Bake at 300 for 15 minutes, or until the macaron “feet” have risen substantially. Allow to cool before assembling.

Step 2: Make the buttercream

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the softened butter and powdered sugar, and begin whisking with an electric mixer on low.
  2. Once combined, add the vanilla, food coloring, milk, and a pinch of salt, then mix on high until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Spoon the frosting into a piping bag with a medium round tip and set aside for assembly.

Step 3: Prepare the stencil

  1. Print our D23 Logo Stencil on regular printer paper.
  2. Using a precision hobby knife, carefully cut out each shape of the logo, creating a stencil. Kids—let an adult handle this part!

Step 4: Assemble

  1. Once the cookies have cooled, pipe buttercream onto the back of half of the cookies, then form a sandwich using the rest.
  2. Place the stencil over each sandwich and carefully spray with the edible color spray. Be sure you’re holding the spray about 6 inches away from the cookie, and don’t spray for too long, to ensure that the stencil leaves a clean design.
  3. Store in the fridge for 1-3 days or enjoy immediately!
