Frozen 2 Cast and Crew Share Cool Details Behind the Film

Following its theatrical release in 2013, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen snowballed into a global phenomenon that warmed even the coldest of hearts (Prince Hans excluded). The first film’s Academy Award®-winning team—directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, producer Peter Del Vecho, and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez—returned to make more magic with Frozen 2, as did voice actors Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Josh Gad (Olaf), and Jonathan Groff (Kristoff).

When the cast and crew of Frozen 2 attended D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif., in August, Lee—who is the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios—described the sequel as “edgier” than its predecessor. “That’s what happens in life. You face bigger issues,” explained Lee, who created the story with Buck and wrote the screenplay. “It’s the most complex, technical film we’ve ever done to match the intensity of these stories.”

In Frozen 2, Anna and Elsa will venture into the unknown—literally and figuratively. “I hope these two women and their incredible journey continues to be inspiring,” Lee said. “I’m so proud of them. They go through a lot and they pick themselves back up. I think the excitement for me is looking at Frozen 1 and Frozen 2 as one giant, complete story.”
