Donald Gets Drafted

Donald Gets Drafted is Released

As the theme song of the Disney short Donald Gets Drafted goes, “The army’s not the army anymore.” This is particularly true when Donald Fauntleroy Duck, the name provided on his draft card, gets drafted. The happy-go-lucky duck, obviously proud to serve his country, enthusiastically heads off to the draft board amidst posters depicting how great army life is—the theme song lyrics describing the cushy conditions of army life. Donald quickly becomes disillusioned when he is faced with perhaps World War II’s toughest drill sergeant, that villainous Black Pete. Donald Gets Drafted is particularly historic because it is the first Disney war-themed cartoon released during the second world war.
