5 Fantastic Things to Watch This Week

By Zach Johnson

Jump-start the week by joining us in celebrating the 25th anniversary of First Kid, available to stream on Disney+. The streaming fun doesn’t end there, as the new comedic murder-mystery series Only Murders in the Building debuts Tuesday on Hulu, followed by Dug Days, a new series of shorts, debuting Wednesday on Disney+. On Thursday, ABC will present CMA Summer Jam, featuring performances from the biggest names in country music. Last but not least, the FXX network premiere of 20th Century Studios’ Breakthrough airs Friday.

First Kid

First Kid—Monday, August 30, on Disney+
Secret Service agent Sam Simms (Sinbad) is assigned to protect the President’s rebellious 14-year-old son Luke (Brock Pierce)—but he would much rather be protecting the President. Luke, meanwhile, would prefer to live like a regular kid without a watchdog trailing his every move. But a genuine friendship develops between the two when Simms volunteers to teach Luke how to deal with a school bully (Zachery Ty Bryan) and how to win over a cute girl in class. But when Like’s mysterious Internet buddy convinces him to ditch his bodyguard in a busy mall, the fun and games become a matter of life and death.

Only Murders in the Building

Only Murders in the Building—Tuesday, August 31, on Hulu
Upper West Side residents Charles (Disney Legend Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) bond over a shared love of true crime. After a neighbor dies in their building, they resolve to solve the mystery and also record an accompanying podcast.

Dug Days

Dug Days—Wednesday, September 1, on Disney+
You’ll be howling with laughter thanks to this new series of five shorts that follows the humorous misadventures of Dug, the lovable dog from Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award®-winning feature film Up whose high-tech collar translates his thoughts into speech.
