Everyone’s favorite webhead will be swinging into a new show coming to Disney XD in 2017. Marvel’s Spider-Man premieres in the new year and focuses on a back-to-basics, classic story of the teenage boy from New York who finds himself in possession of the famed great powers and great responsibility. Cort Lane, senior vice president, Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment, made the announcement today at New York Comic Con and described this new animated series following the life of Peter Parker as “filled with heart and humor.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man will feature a production team almost as super as the Avengers themselves, with experience all across Marvel’s live-action and animated properties. Alan Fine (Marvel’s The Avengers, Iron Man, Thor), Dan Buckley (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.), Joe Quesada (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) serve as executive producers; Stan Lee (Spider-Man), Eric Radomski (Spawn, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble), Cort Lane (Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man) and Stephen Wacker (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble) are co-executive producers; Kevin Shinick (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble) and Marsha Griffin (Transformers Prime) are supervising producers; Dan Slott (Spider-Man: Big Time, The Superior Spider-Man), Kevin Burke and Chris “Doc” Wyatt (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man) are consulting producers; and the series’ supervising director is Philip Pignotti (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man).
“Spider-Man is the biggest action hero in the world. He is an iconic character whose duality makes him both relatable and aspirational for the Disney XD audience,” Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, Programming and general manager, Disney XD, said. “We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Marvel in this new original series that offers a fresh take on a beloved classic that will engage both new and existing Spidey fans with its compelling drama, exciting action and the signature sense of comedy.”
