The Arlington Museum of Art was the place to be on Thursday, September 12, 2024, as it hosted a special preview for D23: The Official Disney Fan Club Members of the highly anticipated Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume and All-That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives exhibits. This sold-out event saw a Texas-sized turnout and many memorable moments as D23 Members were the very first guests to explore this concurrent presentation.
The Walt Disney Archives team achieved something extraordinary by bringing together the Heroes & Villains and Crown Jewels exhibits for the first time. The spacious museum space was beautifully transformed into a dazzling showcase, drawing enthusiastic fans who were thrilled to explore these expansive and enchanting displays.
Kelsey Williams, Exhibitions Design Curator, and Matthew Adams, Manager of Exhibitions, for the Walt Disney Archives captivated the audience with two insightful presentations on each exhibit. Throughout the evening, they engaged with guests, answering questions and sharing their expertise. Joanna Pratt, Director of Operations and Business Strategy for the Walt Disney Archives also participated in a popular book-signing session.
Guests enjoyed shopping in the museum’s fantastic gift shop and refreshments while mingling and taking advantage of D23-themed photo opportunities, capturing memories of this special night. The event was filled with smiles and joy as fans celebrated their Disney passion.
The most unforgettable moment of the evening occurred in the enchanting Cinderella room, featuring five live-action versions of the iconic character’s dress, as a wedding proposal unfolded. As her own prince popped the question, the Disney fan and D23 Member said yes, adding an extra touch of fairy-tale magic to the night.
