Meet the Characters of Disney’s Electric Bloom

By Zach Johnson

It’s time for Electric Bloom to take center stage on Disney+.

From Disney Branded Television comes Electric Bloom, a new comedy series that follows the three members of a mega-famous pop group as they look back and tell the story of their band and friendship, starting with the day they met in high school. Following its summer debut on Disney Channel, Electric Bloom is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday, September 17, with the first 13 episodes of the season, with the rest streaming in October.

Electric Bloom stars Lumi Pollack as perfectly put-together Posey, Carmen Sanchez as school rebel Jade, Ruby Marino as quirky and optimistic Tulip, and Nathaniel Buescher as class crush and band supporter Lucas. In addition to D23: The Official Disney Fan Club unveiling exclusive character posters, the cast is divulging more details about their roles.

Posey (Lumi Pollack)

Posey is a guitarist and a vocalist in Electric Bloom.

“You see her all buttoned up—this perfect, polished [person]—and then you see her with the electric guitar. She all of a sudden starts rocking out and you’re like, ‘Wow! Who is this?’ says Pollack, a singer and dancer who also plays piano and guitar in real life. “She’s also the person who keeps the band organized and on track. She makes sure there’s a schedule for rehearsal and that everything is going as planned. She’s kind of like the rock.”

Pollack describes Posey as “a highly intelligent, determined young girl.”
“Once she has her mind set on something, she already has a 50-step plan on how to accomplish it,” Pollack says. “And she’s a very loyal friend, which I find really sweet.”

Jade (Carmen Sanchez)

Not only does Jade play the piano, but she writes Electric Bloom’s songs. (Fun fact: Emmy®, Golden Globe®, Grammy®, and Oscar® winner Diane Warren actually writes the majority of the songs for the series, including the theme song and all the songs featured in the pilot.) “Jade writes about all the situations she’s going through,” says Sanchez, who in real life fronts her own band and also writes and records her own music. “She writes the best lyrics.”

“Jade is very tough on the outside, but she is a softy inside,” Sanchez continues. “She’s a very outgoing girl, so anything that happens to her, she believes that it happened for a reason. She just goes with the flow and believes that what is meant to be is meant to be. And if something is not for her, she just says, ‘It is what it is.’ I learned a lot from my character. She’s loyal to her friends, but she also sticks up for what is right, that’s for sure.”

A closeup of Tulip, played by Ruby Marino, is framed in a circle and appears in the center of the character poster. Ruby’s name appears above her head, and the Disney Electric Bloom logo appears below it. The entire poster is framed by vibrant flowers.

Tulip (Ruby Marino)

In addition to being a vocalist alongside Posey and Jade, Tulip plays the MIDI, otherwise known as a Musical Instrument Digital Interface. According to Marino, “It’s kind of like a tiny DJ setup. It has little knobs… so you can mix the sound. You can do anything on it!”

Tulip “also sets up the gigs,” she adds. “She calls around; she gets them booked and busy.”

Describing her character as “quirky, silly, and loyal,” Marino says being in Electric Bloom helps Tulip, well, blossom. “She has just come to high school from being homeschooled her whole life, so she doesn’t really know how to act with people her age,” explains Marino, who in real life enjoys drawing, painting, and fostering puppies. “But after meeting Posey and Jade, she learns how to be a normal teenager. She’s very loyal, friendly, and optimistic.”

A closeup of Lucas, played by Nate Buescher, is framed in a circle and appears in the center of the character poster. Lucas’ name appears above his head, and the Disney Electric Bloom logo appears below it. The entire poster is framed by vibrant flowers.

Lucas (Nate Buescher)

Think of Lucas as Electric Bloom’s “creative visionary,” Buescher says.

“He’s not necessarily playing in the band, but he’s their No. 1 fan—their biggest supporter,” says Buescher, who in real life is a hip-hop dancer, cross-country and track runner, and lacrosse player. “He really pushes them, too: ‘Express yourself. Be who you are.’”

Sure, Lucas “can be a bit of an airhead,” Buescher admits. “He’s very confident in what he says—even though most the time he’s wrong. But that’s what makes Lucas, Lucas. He’s also extremely creative. You see him drawing a lot, and he really taps into his creative side.”
