The holiday season is upon us, and you won’t want to miss all the specular titles coming to your TV (or favorite streaming device) this weekend! The fifth season of the Hulu Original series The Croods: Family Tree debuts Friday on the streamer. On Saturday, a brand-new episode of Hamster & Gretel airs on Disney Channel. Plus, Mickey Saves Christmas, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, and The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration air back-to-back-to-back Sunday night on ABC!

In a scene from the series The Croods: Family Tree, Gran stands center and holds a long wooden stick. She wears a bikini made from turtle shells and bones, with green paint on her face. On each side stands other female members of the Crood family with colorful paint on their faces and prehistoric outfits. Each stands ready to attack an enemy with their hands in fists. Behind them is a dense, colorful forest with abstract-shaped plants and a bright blue sky.

The Croods: Family Tree—Friday, November 25, on Hulu
Season 5 of the animated series is jam-packed with action and hysterical twists! The Croods discover a man frozen in a block of ice, and upon defrosting they soon realize he used to date Gran (voiced by Artemis Pebdani). Elsewhere, after Grug (voiced by Kiff Vanderheuvel) saves Hope (voiced by Amy Rosoff) during a dangerous mountainside tartichoke harvest, she becomes determined to repay the favor. And last but not least, Ugga (voiced by Amy Landecker) decides to cook a meal that will dazzle the farm residents, but quickly finds herself overwhelmed and turning to an unlikely place for help. All episodes are available to stream at launch.

In a scene from the Disney Channel animated series Hamster & Gretel, a young girl and boy stand side by side facing an enormous brown woolly mammoth. She wears a turquoise sleeveless shirt, orange headband, orange skirt, yellow belt, and turquoise shoes. He wears a blue long-sleeve shirt, khaki shorts, and brown shoes. They stand in a room with large glass windows that extend toward the ceiling.

Hamster & Gretel—Saturday, November 26, at 9:30 a.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel
This brand-new episode is chock-full of hilarious hijinks and follows Gretel (voiced by Meli Povenmire) as she creates a science project that reaches mammoth proportions. Will her superpowers be enough to take on the prehistoric creature? Elsewhere, spooky occurrences start to happen when the elementary school begins rehearsals for an upcoming play.

In the stop-motion holiday special Mickey Saves Christmas, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Daisy Duck stand around a green Christmas tree adorned with gold tinsel, Christmas ornaments, and lights. Green garland and multi-colored lights are strung around the room near the ceiling.

Mickey Saves Christmas—Sunday, November 27, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD
The brand-new stop-motion holiday special follows Mickey Mouse (voiced by Bret Iwan), Minnie Mouse (voiced by Kaitlyn Robrock), and their pals as they attempt to celebrate the perfect Christmas at their snowy cabin. However, when Pluto (voiced by Disney Legend Bill Farmer) causes Santa (voiced by Brock Powell) to lose all the presents on his sleigh, the pals travel to the North Pole on a quest to save Christmas and find the true meaning of the holiday. The special will simulcast across ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD, and be available to stream the following day on Disney+.

In a scene from Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, animated characters Kristoff, Anna, Elsa, Sven, and Olaf huddle together and look toward the sky. Kristoff wears a dark winter coat and matching pants with a beanie atop his head. Anna wears a periwinkle jacket and matching skirt with furry earmuffs. Elsa wears a dark blue gown covered in sparkles and a white fur neckline. Olaf, a snowman, sits atop Sven’s antlers. Behind them is a large group of people holding small lanterns.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure—Sunday, November 27, at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on ABC
It’s the first holiday season since the Arendelle gates reopened, and Anna (voiced by Disney Legend Kristen Bell) and Elsa (voiced by Disney Legend Idina Menzel) plan a festive celebration for everyone to enjoy. But once the guests leave the party early to partake in their own holiday customs, the sisters realize they have no family traditions of their own. So, Olaf (voiced by Disney Legend Josh Gad) embarks on a mission to bring home the best traditions to save Anna and Elsa’s Christmas.

In a scene from The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration, performers Derek Hough and Julianne Hough stand center stage, with their arms extended up into the air, in front of Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World Resort. Fireworks soar into the sky and pyrotechnics deploy around them. Behind Derek and Julianne stand a group of dancers wearing red and white outfits. Derek wears a cardinal velvet suit jacket with black lapels and black pants. Julianne wears a white sequin body suit with one white opera glove and one red opera glove.

Inside the Showstopping Dancing with the Stars Finale on Disney+

By Zach Johnson

And the Mirrorball trophy goes to... Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas!

The TikTok star and the returning pro were named the Season 31 champions of Dancing with the Stars Monday night, marking the end of an incredible 10 weeks on Disney+. Gabby Windey and pro Val Chmerkovskiy placed second, Wayne Brady and pro Witney Carson placed third, and Shangela and pro Gleb Savchenko placed fourth.

The finale kicked off with a dazzling opening number, choreographed by Mandy Moore, which featured the pro dancers and four finalist couples performing to “Everybody Dance” by Cedric Gervais & Franklin feat. Nile Rodgers. Co-hosts Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro then explained that the four finalists would be performing two routines: a redemption dance chosen by one of the judges and a freestyle routine.

Selma Blair and pro Sasha Farber perform a contemporary routine. A barefoot Blair (front) wears a bedazzled blue leotard with cut-out details. Farber (rear) holds Blair’s hands, which are fully extended on each side.

Highlights from the season were recapped throughout the episode, and all of the eliminated contestants returned to perform a final dance. Notably, Jordin Sparks sang “No Air” as Selma Blair and pro Sasha Farber reunited to perform a contemporary routine weeks after Blair had to leave the competition due to complications from MS.

In addition, the finale featured two retirement celebrations.

Cheryl Burke (left) wears a sequined, fringed dress with matching gloves. Her right knee is bent and her left leg is fully extended behind her. Both of Burke’s arms are in the air, and one hand is clasping Pasha Pashkov’s hand. He is slightly bent over, facing Burke. They are cast in a red light on the ballroom floor.

Pro Cheryl Burke, who is retiring from Dancing with the Stars after 26 seasons and two Mirrorball trophy wins, invited pros Pasha Pashkov and Louis Van Amstel to join her for a final Argentine Tango and a Samba, respectively. After the show, Burke told D23, “It’s bittersweet. I’m really trying to take it all in. But I also want to celebrate the other winners, the finalists—everybody! I never would have thought I was going to retire with [head judge] Len Goodman. If you would have said that to me 17 years ago when I did the show, I’d be like, ‘What is going on?’ It’s going to hit me hard this week, I believe.”

In the penultimate episode, Goodman announced his retirement, and in the finale, he was honored with a star-studded tribute video and his own Mirrorball trophy. “It was very emotional tonight,” judge Derek Hough told D23. “That was a beautiful sendoff.”

Tyra Banks (left) smiles and holds a microphone as she stands on the ballroom floor. She wears a turquoise and silver dress with an exaggerated shoulder detail and a cape. Shangela (center) wears a hot pink fringed dress and nude bedazzled boots. She is smiling and clasping her hands. Gleb Savchenko (right) is in full drag as Natasha. He wears a silver sequined bodysuit with pink fringe detail and pink rhinestones; a platinum blonde wig; hot pink lipstick; and thick black eyelashes. He is holding a microphone in his left hand.

After the redemption dances, two couples—D’Amelio and Ballas, and Windey and Chmerkovskiy—wound up at the top of the leader board with 40/40 points, while the other two couples were close behind with 36/40 points. For their freestyle routines, all four couples received perfect scores—a fitting end to a stellar first season on Disney+.

Post-show, Shangela expressed gratitude for those who supported her journey on Dancing with the Stars. “I’d like to say thank you. This moment meant more than just something to me; this moment was for every person watching who never thought they could show up authentically as themselves and be celebrated and make it far in a competition like this and do it proudly,” she told D23. “I’m so grateful to my partner, Gleb, for creating with me and riding this wave. Never give up, baby. Keep on going!”

Britt Stewart, Daniel Durant, Heidi D’Amelio, Artem Chigvintsev, Vinny Guadagino, Koko Iwasaki, Trevor Donovan, and Emma Slater wear matching blue and black costumes as they stand next to each other on the ballroom floor.

For D’Amelio, it was hard to fathom being crowned the winner of Season 31. “I’m feeling everything—all the emotions right now. I don’t even know!” she told D23 with a laugh. “I’m just so happy and very grateful.” Ballas, who returned to the ballroom after a five-year hiatus, confessed that he had not been expecting to win, saying, “My goal was just to come back, have fun, and get as creative as possible. I got blessed with a partner who was down to take the ride and try out my ideas. I just wanted the pieces to be memorable and connect with people. For anyone who felt something, I’m very grateful.” Asked where she plans to display her Mirrorball trophy, a stunned D’Amelio replied, “I have not gotten that far yet. I feel weird that I’m even holding it!”

Everything New You Can Stream on Disney+ in December 2022

By Zach Johnson

Disney+ has something for everyone this holiday season! The streamer just unveiled a new slate of titles coming in December, from new Originals to beloved films and series.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, an all-new animated movie based on the second book in Jeff Kinney’s book series, premieres Friday, December 2, and follows the riotous antics of angst-ridden, disaster prone middle school student Greg Heffley (voiced by Brady Noon). In it, Greg takes on one of his biggest challenges yet: surviving a weekend alone with Rodrick (voiced by Hunter Dillon) and following his growing list of rules. That same day, Pentatonix: Around the World for the Holidays will premiere on Disney+. The a cappella group Pentatonix is struggling to find inspiration for their annual holiday album—and the clock is ticking! To make matters worse, their well-intentioned but misguided manager mistakenly locks them in a magic mailroom. With a little Disney magic, they embark upon a whirlwind tour around the world, discovering holiday traditions and inspiration from Pentatonix fans. The journey leads the group to realize that the holidays offer people the perfect opportunity to discover how much we have in common—and that it really is a small world, after all!

On Thursday, December 8, Solo Amor Y Mil Canciones will premiere on Disney+. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Violetta’s release, Tini gets together with her former castmates to celebrate, giving her fans an intimate, unique, and unforgettable show. Plus, Tini, Jorge Blanco, Candelaria Molfese, and Mercedes Lambre give the audience a night to remember with brand-new versions of five of the hit series’ songs.

In an image from Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?, Idina Menzel stands center stage and sings into a handheld microphone. She is wearing a gold skirt, a black studded belt, a black crop top with gold sparkles, and gold jewelry.

The following night, Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage? will debut. Disney Legend Idina Menzel’s many triumphs include Broadway roles in Rent and Wicked, as well as the voice of Elsa in Disney’s Frozen. Yet one dream goal has evaded her grasp: to headline a concert at Madison Square Garden in her hometown of New York City. Filmmaker Anne McCabe follows Menzel on a national tour over the course of 16 shows as she juggles the challenges of being a working mom with a grueling travel schedule, all preparing to finally realize her dream. Also debuting on Friday, December 9, is Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again! In the animated feature film, Nick Daley follows in his father’s footsteps as night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History—i.e., he knows what happens when the sun goes down! When the maniacal ruler Kahmunrah escapes, it’s up to Nick to save the museum once and for all.

National Treasure: Edge of History will premiere with two episodes on Wednesday, December 14. When an enigmatic stranger gives Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera) a clue to a centuries-old treasure that might be connected to her late father, her life is turned upside down. Jess has a knack for solving puzzles, and her skills are put to the test as she and her friends follow a series of clues hidden in American artifacts and landmarks. Can Jess outsmart a black-market antiquities dealer (Catherine Zeta-Jones) in a race to find a lost treasure, ultimately unburying the truth about her family’s past?

For more than 90 years, Abbey Road Studios has been at the heart of the music industry. Fans journey every year to have their photo taken at the world-famous zebra crossing, and artists strive to follow in the footsteps of their heroes. In If These Walls Could Talk—premiering Friday, December 16—Mary McCartney guides us through nine decades to see and experience the creative magic that makes it the most famous and longest-running studio in the world. From classical to pop, film scores to hip-hop, the documentary explores the breadth, diversity, and ingenuity of Abbey Road. Also premiering that day is the live-action short Le Pupille, a tale of innocence, greed, and fantasy from writer and director Alice Rohrwacher and producer Alfonso Cuarón.

On Wednesday, December 28, Disney+ subscribers are invited to step into Casa Madrigal for an unprecedented concert spectacular as the original voice cast of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award®-winning Encanto reunites for Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl. Starring Stephanie Beatriz, Adassa, Carolina Gaitán, Jessica Darrow, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, and Olga Merediz, along with special guests including Carlos Vives, Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl transforms a historic venue into the world of the animated film that became a worldwide phenomenon.
