Disney Donates Mobile Movie Theater, Hospital Wear, and Toys to Florida Children’s Hospitals

By Jessica Benda

Disney delivered some extra pixie dust to Florida pediatric patients, who were surprised by a special mobile movie theater unit, character-themed hospital wear, toys, and more.

Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Cruise Line, and Starlight Children’s Foundation were behind the surprise, which is part of Disney’s global commitment to help reimagine the patient experience in children’s hospitals around the world.

“We know that a little Disney magic can go a long way in making someone’s day, and that’s exactly why events like these are so important to us,” said Tajiana Ancora-Brown, director of external affairs at Walt Disney World Resort. “A hospital stay can often be overwhelming, and we hope these special deliveries will bring new happy memories, inspire hope, and help build resilience for these patients and families across Florida and around the world.”

Mickey Mouse kneels beside a child in a wheelchair, who holds a boxed toy and wears Donald Duck hospital wear.

Mickey Mouse, Disney leaders, and cast members joined the surprise at AdventHealth for Children, a part of AdventHealth Tampa, which marked the first of Disney’s six donations taking place in Florida hospitals and nonprofit organizations throughout March. Meanwhile, Captain Minnie Mouse joined Disney Cruise Line cast and crew members in Fort Lauderdale at the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health. It was the first wave of deliveries the cruise line will be making to children’s hospitals in several port communities across the country.

Patients enjoyed an advanced screening of Disney On Ice presents Frozen & Encanto to mark the arrival of the new theater in a distinctly Disney way. Moving forward, the theater will bring new releases and beloved classics to help create positive memories during a child’s time at the hospital, as well as immersive experiences and personal moments that deliver joy and comfort. Patients and families will be able to continue enjoying the latest Disney storytelling through complimentary Disney+ access and first run movies through Disney Movie Moments, both provided to child life professionals.

“Our hearts are full knowing we can ease the burden and anxiety for our young patients and their families—at least for a little while,” said Bruce Bergherm, President and CEO of AdventHealth Tampa. “We believe in healing the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—and this opportunity is exactly what our patients need as part of their recovery to feel whole.”

A little girl wearing Minnie Mouse hospital wear waves a blue and purple Frozen wand. In the background, Disney toys like dolls and stuffed animals sit on tables.

More donations will take place at Wolfson Children’s Hospital at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation in Miami, Golisano Children’s Hospital of South West Florida in Ft. Myers, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, and Give Kids The World Village in Kissimmee. Disney Cruise Line is making an additional five deliveries to hospitals in Florida and other port cities, with more taking place around the world throughout the year.

The donations are made possible by the company’s continued collaboration with Starlight Children’s Foundation to bring the positive power of Disney stories to children’s hospitals. Through the collaboration, Starlight Children’s Foundation offers Disney-themed Starlight hospital wear, care packages, and deliveries of toys and games to its nationwide network of children’s hospitals, including AdventHealth for Children. Used as engagement tools by child life specialists, these programs help young patients get through the stress of medical procedures and hospitalization.

Mickey Mouse poses with three men for the camera. They all smile with their arms in the air while standing in front of a blue curtain.

“We’re honored and grateful to have a longstanding relationship with Disney in helping us achieve our mission of delivering happiness to seriously ill kids and their families,” said Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation. “Together for over 20 years, we’ve been transforming the hospital experience through programs that entertain and provide comfort to kids at a time when they need it most.”

These efforts build on Disney’s long legacy of supporting those in need and join other recent initiatives like welcoming back regular character visits to local Central Florida children’s hospitals.

Everything New You Can Stream on Disney+ in April 2023

By Zach Johnson

Disney+ has a steady stream of new content coming this April.

On Wednesday, April 5, stream all episodes of The Crossover (Season 1). Based on the critically acclaimed best-selling novel-in-verse by Kwame Alexander, it introduces teen brothers Josh and Jordan Bell, widely considered basketball phenoms. Through his lyrical poetry, an adult version of Josh, aka Filthy McNasty, narrates the story of their coming of age, on and off the court, as their former professional basketball player father adjusts to life after basketball and their mother finally pursues lifelong dreams of her own. That same day, stream all episodes of Journey to the Center of the Earth (Season 1). In the series, Diego’s parents send him to a camp run by Pompilio Calderón. When he discovers a powerful family secret, Diego realizes he must protect the dimension he has found. His mission is not that simple, of course, since Pompilio and his henchman will do everything in their power to destroy this fantastic world they have encountered.

After he meets a woman named Ana, the road to success seems possible. Big City Greens—Saturday, March 18, at 8 a.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel
The Greens are back with even more hilarious adventures in this brand-new episode. The first story, aptly titled “Chill Bill,” follows Cricket (voiced by Chris Houghton) who discovers that lake life is the key to a more relaxed Bill (voiced by Bob Joles). Then, in “Bunny,” Bill’s crops are in peril thanks to a group of rabbits. To save the harvest, Nancy (voiced by Wendi McLendon-Covey) enlists the help of their country friends.

In a scene from an episode of Kiff, an animated brown squirrel and a blue bunny wear suits and high heels and play with brown cardboard boxes.

Kiff—Saturday, March 18, at 8:30 a.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel and Disney XD
Not just one but two all-new episodes of the animated series debut this weekend! First, Kiff (voiced by Kimiko Glenn) and Barry (voiced by Michael Croner) investigate where Barry’s brother goes when he skips class. At career day, Kiff and Barry secure summer jobs at City Hall to help the citizens of Table Town. The mischief continues as Kiff unleashes five forces of chaos, and Helen (voiced by Lucy Heavens) is the only one who can help. Then she has to have an uncomfortable conversation with Barry about finishing Martin’s orange juice.

In a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, actors Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, and Disney Legend Johnny Depp gather around a wooden table and are surrounded by a group of pirates.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End—Saturday, March 18, at 1 p.m. ET/PT, on Freeform
Prepare for a swashbuckling journey as Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) join forces with Capt. Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) to free Jack Sparrow (Disney Legend Johnny Depp) from Davy Jones’ locker. Meanwhile, as the ghostly crew of the Flying Dutchman ghost ship wreaks havoc on the Seven Seas, the friends must navigate dangerous waters to confront Chinese pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat). Ultimately, they must choose sides in a battle wherein the pirate life hangs in the balance. The film also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Tom Hollander, Bill Nighy, Jack Davenport, Kevin McNally, Naomie Harris, and Keith Richards.

In a scene from National Treasure: Book of Secrets, actors Nicolas Cage and Justin Bartha gather around a large antique book.

Determined to prove his ancestor’s innocence, Ben uses portions of a cipher on the page fragment to follow an international chain of clues, searching for the true story. The search for truth turns into a race to discover the whereabouts of a mythological treasure, taking Ben on a chase from Paris to London to Washington to South Dakota’s Black Hills. The film also stars Jon Voight, Helen Mirren, Ed Harris, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Harvey Keitel, and Bruce Greenwood.

Your Disney+ Watchlist—According to Your D23 Gold Membership Card

By Jessica Benda

Hundreds of heartfelt, thrilling, and otherworldly stories live on Disney+—which poses the difficult task of picking what to watch. Luckily, we’ve devised a formula to get rid of that pesky decision paralysis, and it starts with your D23 membership card.

For the first time, new and returning D23 Gold Members get to pick their very own platinum membership card. Each of the four cards has a unique design, seen below, broken into four options—Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

To celebrate the new cards, we’ve compiled four watchlists based on which one you carry. Pick your card, then head over to your watchlist to find the perfect movie or series for your mood.

In the animated film Lilo and Stitch, little girl Lilo and blue alien Stitch ride in a toy rocket outside a store. “Space Adventure” is splattered on the rocket’s side. Lilo grins, but Stitch slouches over the side with his tongue hanging out.

Disney

If you want a musical: Disney boasts several contenders for this spot, but one appears on the Disney membership card! Mirabel Madrigal belongs to an (almost) all magical family in EncantoThe film boasts irresistibly catchy songs including “What Else Can I Do?,” “Waiting on a Miracle,” and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”—which, by the way, they do anyway—all written by regular Disney collaborator Lin-Manuel Miranda.

If you want a showstopping villain: The 1997 film Hercules brought us several gems, among them Disney’s most sarcastic heroine, Danny DeVito as a satyr, and most important: the ever-snarky Lord of the Dead. Unlike many adored villains, Hades doesn’t deliver an iconic villain song, but his rapid-fire wit more than makes up for it. His hair is blue fire, he commands two clumsy minions, and he gives great guy-advice. In the words of Hades, “Memo to me: Maim you after my meeting.”

If you want a heroic princess: Throughout The Princess and the Frog, Tiana shows hard work, humor, and heroism. After accidentally being turned into a frog by her future husband, Prince Naveen, she treks through the bayou and faces the terrifying Dr. Facilier. Not only can she outwit her enemies, but her love for her family and her career solidifies her as a certified Disney Princess.

If you want a cozy night in: With watercolor backgrounds and upbeat music, Lilo and Stitch is perfect for your next night in. On the lush island of Kauaʻi, the dark-humored but lovable Lilo meets Stitch, a blue alien and absolute menace to society. We’d normally say they formed an unlikely friendship, but they make perfect sense together.

In a graveyard, the young Miguel stands with the five living skeletons of his family members in the animated film Coco. Since they’re all spirits, they’re surrounded by an orange glow. Behind them are several flowers and lit candles as people celebrate Day of the Dead.

Pixar

If you want a musical: With lively, heartfelt, and occasionally crushing songs, Coco delivers all your sing-along dreams. Aspiring musician Miguel winds up in the lush Land of the Dead, where he seeks out legendary musician and potential relative Ernesto de la Cruz. Along the way, audiences hear bold musical numbers such as “Un Poco Loco,” “La Llorona,” and “Remember Me.”

If you want a showstopping villain: Taken literally, the most showstopping villain is found in Coco, but otherwise, we’re recommending Toy Story 3. Though toy bear Lotso sports magenta fur, he rules over Sunnyside Daycare with an iron fist. He was once a lovable bear that smelled of strawberries, but after his owner lost him, he evolved into an evil dictator (who still smells of strawberries). He solidified his spot as one of Pixar’s biggest baddies when he left our favorite toys to burn in an incinerator.

If you want a heroic princess: The 2012 film Brave delivers a two-for-one: a heroic princess and a heroic queen. Princess Merida has a strained relationship with her mother, Queen Elinor. After she accidentally turns her mom into a bear—it happens—she and Elinor must work to mend their relationship and grow as individuals together.

If you want a cozy night in: In the gorgeous city of Paris, Remy is a chef. He’s also a rat. Those two identifiers tend to make life difficult. Ratatouille tells the story of how anyone can cook, and its charming aesthetic and soothing score make it the perfect film for a cozy night in—especially if you have snacks on hand!

Thor: Ragnarok, Thor and Valkyrie stand beside each other in the Grandmaster’s palace, wearing their warrior armor. Thor’s hair is cut short and he stares into the distance, with Valkyrie looking up at him.

Marvel

If you want a musical: Marvel is scarce on the musical numbers—save for a killer performance of Rogers: The Musical in Hawkeye—but Guardians of the Galaxy boasts a legendary playlist. Peter Quill’s love of ’70s and ’80s music is integral to the film, occasionally playing a part in life-or-death situations. More than that, it makes for a rocking soundtrack, including Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling,” The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” and Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love.”

If you want a showstopping villain: We know Thanos is often considering the Big Bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—after all, he wiped out half the universe—but there’s a three-for-one in Thor: Ragnarok. Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death, loves a good sword and smoky eye. While Cate Blanchett’s performance kills as the starring villain, Jeff Goldblum stole some of her thunder as the party-loving but sadistic Grandmaster. Don’t forget Tom Hiddleston as the trickster god Loki, Thor’s villainous brother, though he’s leaning more into “anti-hero” these days.

If you want a heroic princess: Look no farther than Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Shuri, the Princess of Wakanda, shone as a skilled innovator and warrior in the first film, but she truly stepped into her power in the second. After the devastating death of T’Challa, her brother, Shuri is under the spotlight as she strives to protect Wakanda.

If you want a cozy night in: Marvel movies are never gentle on the audiences’ nervous systems, but Spider-Man: Homecoming cushions its adrenaline with light-hearted banter and relatable friendships. Peter Parker is drafted into the crime-fighting Avengers, but he still has to prove himself before assuming full membership. Juggling high school with saving the world is a near-impossible challenge.

In the series The Mandalorian, a green, Yoda-like infant is held by presumably Din Djarin. Grogu’s large, pointed ears tilt slightly upward and his dark eyes are wide. He smiles.

Star Wars

If you want a musical: As much as we’d love to hear Harrison Ford sing, the Star Wars saga isn’t known for its songs. However, it has an unbeatable score with one of its most iconic numbers given good play in The Empire Strikes Back. The Imperial March is a daunting, thrilling musical staple of the saga’s most infamous villain: Darth Vader. Composed by John Williams, The Empire Strikes Back setlist is home to some of the most iconic themes of the Star Wars universe.

If you want a showstopping villain: In Obi-Wan Kenobi, a six-episode series, audiences see Darth Vader continue his climb to power. Once a Jedi named Anakin Skywalker, the twisted Vader again faces his old master and friend, Obi-Wan. Using the foundations of a remarkably complex relationship, Obi-Wan Kenobi explores the morally gray and the undoubtedly evil. Plus, there’s a reprise of Vader and Obi-Wan’s unforgettable lightsaber battle on fiery Mustafar.

If you want a heroic princess: Technically, Padmé Amidala is more than a princess. As Naboo’s Queen and later Senator, she protects her people through both political negotiation and good old-fashioned blasters, primarily seen in Attack of the Clones. Add it to your watchlist to see Padmé in action—and there’s no shortage of it!

If you want a cozy night in: Season 3 of The Mandalorian recently dropped on Disney+, so be quick to catch up on the first two if you haven’t already! The series follows a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter as he protects Grogu, the cutest green infant in the Star Wars universe. This series will both pump adrenaline and tug heartstrings, perfect for a cozy night in.

Jeff “Swampy” Marsh Returns to Production on Phineas and Ferb

Great news, Phineas and Ferb fans! (Hey, that’s us!) We know what Jeff “Swampy” Marsh is going to do today—or at least very soon…

As recently announced by Disney Branded Television, the Emmy® Award-winning co-creator and executive producer of the award-winning animated series is set to executive produce and voice-direct all-new episodes for its big return! Marsh will join his longtime creative partner Dan Povenmire on the series, which announced 40 new episodes this past January.

Together, Marsh and Povenmire created and executive-produced Phineas and Ferb, the most successful animated series for kids, ages 6–11, and tweens, ages 9–14, in Disney Television Animation history. The original run of the series, which follows two resourceful stepbrothers who conquer boredom and make every day of their summer vacation count, spanned 126 episodes, five one-hour specials, and two hit movies.

Marsh also previously announced that a new series for preschoolers, Hey A.J., from his Surfing Giant Studios (in association with Disney Junior), is now in production. The adventure/comedy series is based on books by Super Bowl champion Martellus Bennett, who is also among its voice cast.

Stay tuned for more Phineas and Ferb news in the coming months…

The Ghost and Molly McGee Gets New Trailer and April Premiere Date

Time to get spooky: The Ghost and Molly McGee is ready to materialize in just a few weeks for a second frightfully fun season… and Disney Branded Television just released a new trailer to celebrate!

The buddy comedy follows tween optimist Molly, who lives to make the world a better place, and grumpy ghost Scratch, whose job is to spread misery. When one of Scratch’s curses backfires, he finds himself forever bound to Molly, creating an unlikely friendship that leads to humorous misadventures as they navigate Molly’s new school and town.

Season 2 kicks off when the Chens, a ghost-hunting family, move in across the street from the McGees. Meanwhile, a new Chairman is declared in the Ghost World, making life (and afterlife) even more complicated for Molly and Scratch.

The series’ voice cast includes Ashly Burch as Molly McGee, Dana Snyder as Scratch, Jordan Klepper as Pete McGee, Michaela Dietz as Darryl, and Sumalee Montano as Sharon McGee and Grandma Nin. Season 2 guest voice cast includes Tony Hale, Paul F. Tompkins, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Trejo, Jane Lynch, Liza Koshy, Jenifer Lewis, Pamela Adlon, and more.

Look for the Emmy® Award-nominated series to premiere on Saturday, April 1, at 8 a.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel and Disney XD; it’ll then stream Sunday, April 2, on Disney+.

Disney+ Reveals Exclusive American Born Chinese Poster Art

This week, the Disney+ Original series American Born Chinese had its world premiere at SXSW at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas… and during the event, the cast and creatives revealed exclusive poster art created for the series by multidisciplinary visual artist James Jean.

The newly designed art depicts the journey of the main character, Jin Wang; it captures Jin on his way to school, with Chinese mythological hero The Monkey King shapeshifting into his backpack. While the backpack hints at ideas of cultural and emotional baggage, the flora emerging from within it is based on the paintings of Giuseppe Castiglione—an Italian missionary who became a court painter in China during the Qing dynasty and revolutionized traditional silk scroll painting by combining Western rendering techniques with traditional Chinese aesthetics. The entire look also reflects Jean’s own experiences as an Asian American…

In attendance at the SXSW event were cast members Ben Wang, Daniel Wu, Chin Han, and Sydney Taylor, and executive producers Kelvin Yu, Gene Luen Yang, and Melvin Mar. They also took the opportunity to celebrate their fellow cast members Michelle Yeoh’s and Ke Huy Quan’s historic wins at the Academy Awards®on Sunday, March 12.

The Disney Branded Television series, produced by 20th Television, will premiere May 24 with all eight episodes, exclusively on Disney+.

Q&A: Celebrating Women’s History Month with RockLove’s Talented Team of Women

By Jocelyn Buhlman

March is not only Women’s History Month, but it’s also the month our friends at RockLove Jewelry are celebrating their 15th anniversary! As a woman-founded and run company, RockLove showcases the artistic talent and creativity of a team of women lead by CEO and designer Allison Cimino.

Whether you’re a Disney fashionista or just someone with an eye for shiny things, you’re probably familiar with RockLove’s gorgeous collaborations with Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar... but how much do you know about the team behind the magic? We sat down with Cimino to talk jewelry, Disney, and dressing like punk-rock Maleficent. Plus, each member of the team told us which Disney character they’d love to see wearing RockLove! Read on to discover that in this case, all that glitters is covered in pixie dust:

Allison Cimino poses with her eyes closed, one hand behind her ear to show off her earring, while the other rests on the brim of a black hat. She has a variety of jewelery on her fingrs, ears, and neck, and is wearing a black shirt with the word “Disneyland” across it in shiny silver letters.

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club: What inspired you to study precious metal jewelry craftsmanship?
Alison Cimino (AC): Since childhood, I have been captivated by the artistry and allure of precious metals, especially the historical styles and techniques of sterling silver from different regions and eras throughout history.

However, it was my personal experience with nickel allergies that propelled me towards a career in jewelry-making. I discovered that the use of nickel in lower quality, mass-produced jewelry not only limited my options for self-expression but also caused a traumatic allergic reaction to a gold and diamond nose ring. This experience was a turning point, and I dedicated myself to crafting pieces from scratch with the highest quality metals and materials to ensure the purity and hypoallergenic properties of each piece.

I enrolled in an old-world silversmithing apprenticeship in Florence, Italy, where I learned traditional techniques with a focus on lost wax casting. The experience cemented my passion for sculpting and metalwork and provided me with the foundation to establish my own brand, RockLove. From the outset, the use of nickel-free sterling silver and the highest quality precious metals became a cornerstone of the brand—enabling me to create stunning pieces that are both fashionable and safe for a wide audience to wear.

D23: How do you integrate storytelling into your jewelry designs?
AC: I believe that jewelry has the ability to tell stories and evoke emotions. My design process draws inspiration from diverse sources, including historical styles and craftsmanship techniques, as well as the imaginative worlds of sci-fi and fantasy pop culture. I aim to seamlessly interweave these narratives into my designs, utilizing various techniques such as enamelwork, engraving, filigree, articulations, and custom crystal shapes to tell each chapter of the story.

As a lifelong fan of Disney’s storytelling and world-building, I have always been enamored by the brand’s iconic characters, magical lands, and engaging narratives that have captivated and inspired generations. With each Disney X RockLove piece, I strive to infuse the tangible piece of jewelry with a similar sense of wonder and imagination, creating glittering sculptures that act as talismans designed to transport the wearer to another world—and help them express their own unique story.

D23: How do you approach creating Disney-inspired RockLove designs?
AC: My approach is always to stay true to the spirit of the characters and stories while also bringing my own artistic vision and style to the pieces. I draw inspiration from everything—from memorable quotes to the intricate details of the costumes and props—and I work closely with the Disney team to ensure that each piece is an authentic representation of the beloved characters and their worlds.

A Silver necklace with a pendant featuring Cri-Kee, the lucky cricket from Mulan, inside a cage.

D23: Which Disney character were you most excited to design jewelry for?
AC: I couldn’t wait to design for my favorite characters, so the first Disney Princess collections were homages to my deep admiration for Disney’s Mulan and Tiana. They are two inspiring princesses who embodied the values of hard work, perseverance, and courage. Mulan, a warrior who fought both for her country as well as the safety of her father, and Tiana, a determined entrepreneur who worked hard every day to achieve her dreams, both served as powerful role models for women everywhere.

For Mulan, I created pieces that evoke the strength and honor of a warrior with motifs of plum blossoms and swords, joined by adorable three-dimensional sculpted pieces of her comic-relief sidekicks Mushu and Cri-Kee. For Tiana, I designed an elegant series of sculpted water lilies set with soft white pearls, along with a joyful beignet earring and necklace set (complete with crystal pavé powdered sugar!) that reflect her passion for cooking and her love for her hometown of New Orleans.

A close up of a necklace with a gold locket shaped like the nautilus shell that Ursula wore in The Little Mermaid. Coming out of the shell are silver music notes, representing Ariel’s “voice.”

D23: Is there a Disney X RockLove jewelry piece you’re most fond of?
AC: The inaugural launch of the Disney X RockLove line featured multiple Disney Villains, and among them was the incomparable Ursula. Even today, the Ursula Shell Locket remains one of my all-time favorite designs across any fandom, embodying the RockLove brand and exemplifying the level of storytelling I strive to achieve.

Crafted in sterling silver and plated with 14K yellow gold, Ursula’s iconic nautilus shell necklace holds a special secret: it is three-dimensional and double-sided, with a hinged door that releases Ariel’s voice, which was trapped inside! The necklace features a chain of nine linked sterling silver music notes that pour out in succession—an accurate transcription of Ariel’s vocal progression.

Beautiful, high quality, articulated, and capturing an iconic moment from the film, the most magical part about this necklace is the connection the wearer makes when showing off the hidden music notes to another, uniting them in their shared love of Disney.

Alison Cimino of RockLove stands in front of the Main Street, U.S.A. train station at Disneyland park. She is wearing an outfit inspired by Maleficent, including a sleeveless t-shirt depicting the character and a coordinating mouse ear headband. She is holding a leather jacket in her right hand and holding her left hand up to her headband.

D23: What’s your most “I can’t believe this is my job!” moment from your RockLove work with Disney, thus far?
AC: Although I watched every animated Disney film on loop and had each lyric committed to memory, the only time I had the chance to visit Disneyland or Walt Disney World was a single time as a stroller-size child too young to remember. And apparently, I was terrified of the characters—the irony! It wasn’t until after I began the official collaboration with Disney that I finally had the opportunity to truly experience the Walt Disney Studio Lot and Disneyland. For my day at Disneyland, I dressed up in a Maleficent meets ‘80s classic rocker Disneybound, complete with custom ears, and spent the day in equal parts wonderment and happy tears—thinking to myself, “Oh my gosh, I’m making Disney magic!" It was a surreal and unforgettable experience, and I felt incredibly fortunate to be able to play a part in the beloved Disney universe.

D23: What advice do you have for Disney fans who want to make their own jewelry?
AC: If you‘re new to jewelry making or any other craft, it’s essential to start with the basics and gradually build your skills. Take a local class or follow online tutorials to master simple techniques like wire wrapping and beading before moving on to more complex methods such as fabrication and soldering.

Jewelry making is a creative process that offers an opportunity to construct something new. Instead of making designs that you think others will like, experiment with new ideas that excite you. Your passion and uniqueness will shine through in your work if you follow your own voice.

Like any skill, jewelry making takes practice to master. It’s essential not to get discouraged if your designs don’t turn out exactly as you hoped; your hands need time to catch up to your imagination. Don’t abandon a project just because it’s not perfect; finish it and move on to the next. With time and practice, you’ll develop your own unique style and hone your techniques.

Question for each of RockLove’s team members: Which Disney character would you love to see wearing RockLove jewelry?

Six members of the RockLove team all strike meditional poses around a big, grey rock. One team member is sitting cross-legged atop the rock while the rest of the women pose around the rock. Everyone is wearing black shirts that have the “RockLove Jewelery” logo in white text across the front.

Allison Lazar, Chief Experiential Officer: While Jeff Goldblum is not a “Disney character,” but rather a host/personality of The World According to Jeff Goldblum on NatGeo, I think with such a wide range of franchises, jewelry styles, and finishes across our brand, RockLove could be effortlessly incorporated into his unique style and bring a new sophisticated “Disneyverse” synergy to every outfit. His adventurous approach to fashion and untamed curious spirit is what RockLove is all about.

Carla Roque, Customer Service Manager: Growing up in Southern California, I spent a lot of time in the water. Between swim lessons, trips to the beach, and a very short-lived dream of becoming a marine biologist, it should be no surprise that The Little Mermaid was my favorite movie. I could definitely see Ariel wearing RockLove Jewelry. She’s one of the few princesses we see wearing multiple outfits, and we’ve got pieces that go with it all! The Keepsake Necklace is a perfectly dainty reminder of where she came from now that she’s part of our world; the Shell Locket proving she’s strong enough to use her voice; and the Bubble collection is super sparkly thingamabob-perfect for any outfit.

A silver ring encircled by silver leaves. Each leaf is decorated with either yellow, orange, or red jewels. The phrase “Fearless by nature” is engraved in cursive on the inside of the ring.

Jessica Lazar, Image Manager: The character I would love to see wearing RockLove Jewelry is Te Fiti, the Earth Goddess, from Moana. I would love to see the Goddess wearing the Disney X RockLove Frozen Gale Wind Spirit Spinner Ring. I am very passionate about respecting and taking care of nature, including oceans, plants, animals, etc. Te Fiti shows her passion and frustration for how we treat the Earth when she transforms into Ta Ka—and some could say I do the same when I see a neglected plant in a trendy restaurant. I want her to wear the Gale Wind Spirit ring because she is “fearless by nature” for nature, and I’d like to think I am as well.

Jeannelle Joseph, Licensing Manager: Mulan! I always loved her character as a kid—courageous, strong, and determined. She broke barriers for many and cared deeply for her family and culture. I would love to see Mulan wearing our Disney X RockLove Mulan Sword Earrings, and think they would be a cool extra weapon in battle!

Katie Weddle, Purchasing Manager: As a lifelong Disney fan with a serious love of the fairytales and classic stories, my final answer surprised me a bit. My first inclination was to choose Mary Poppins—seeing her wear RockLove Jewelry would be practically perfect in every way! But the more I thought about it and thought about what RockLove represents and the amazing women on our RockLove Team, I think that the character I would LOVE to see wearing RockLove jewelry most is the one, the only, the inimitable Edna Mode! Edna is an icon of fashion herself, but also a strong, creative, artistic woman with ambitions to change the world through innovation and imagination—all while being a friend who tells the truth and support to those she works with and serves. Seeing her wear RockLove would be “absolutely fabulous, dahling!”

First Look: TRON Lightcycle / Run Merchandise and Energy Bytes Foodie Guide

Greetings, programs!

We’re gearing up for the official launch of TRON Lightcycle / Run presented by Enterprise at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort on Tuesday, April 4. The thrilling new attraction will immerse guests into the digital world of TRON (1982) and TRON: Legacy (2010).

To prepare for your journey to the Game Grid, our friends at the Disney Parks Blog shared a sneak peek at the futuristic fashions—as well as delicious treats—coming to Tomorrowland in just a few short weeks.

Users who venture into the Grid will find three merchandise collections, related to the attraction, TRON: Legacy, or the nostalgia from the digital world first introduced in the original film.

The Back to the Arcade collection captures the 1980s arcade scene complete with nods to Flynn’s Arcade from the original film. The backpacks and illuminated wall signs available for purchase also draw inspiration from video game cabinets. Plus, the tumbler depicts vintage Lightcycles racing around a domed top.

Lightcycles—the fast, two-wheeled vehicles on the Grid—inspired the Thrill of the Race collection, which contains racing-inspired apparel for adults and kids.

A person wears a TRON light-up replica helmet and a TRON light-up jacket.

For devout TRON: Legacy fans, purchase a light-up replica of Sam Flynn’s helmet. The creative team used the original costume as reference when designing this unique souvenir. A separate decorative helmet bag is available for purchase and perfect for the helmet (or any other racing helmet).

For those eager to continue racing Lightcycles after visiting the Grid, check out the TRON Lightcycle Handlebars. This interactive toy contains lights and sound effects from TRON and can turn into an interactive game for up to four players.

Four mannequins wear black jumpsuits with colorful lighted accents posed next to a Lightcycle.

The third merchandise collection is inspired by the design language of the digital world. Adults will find light-up jackets and other accessories, like a backpack that holds a new interactive Identity Disc that doubles as an audio speaker.

The TRON Identity Program, an all-new retail experience, offers guests a customizable “Program” action figure and identity chip that can be used to “re-program” other merchandise, such as the Identity Discs and Remote Control Lightcycles. Beginning Tuesday, March 21, guests may book TRON Identity Program reservations for arrivals starting April 4.

When TRON Lightcycle / Run opens, guests will find these products and more in a specially designed pop-up shop area directly across from the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor entrance in Tomorrowland.

Meanwhile, the new kiosk Energy Bytes (also located in Tomorrowland) will be serving up tasty bites and sips inspired by the futuristic environment. Whether you’re looking for some breakfast bites, savory snacks, sweet treats, or refreshing beverages, this will be the perfect place to charge up!

How Disney Legend Robin Roberts Is Turning the Tables Again in Season 2

By Zach Johnson

No one gets people to open up quite like Disney Legend Robin Roberts.

That skill has served Roberts well during her 33-year career with The Walt Disney Company, especially as co-anchor of ABC News’ Good Morning America. It’s also a skill that makes Season 2 of the Disney+ Original series Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts so compelling. In the four-episode season—premiering Wednesday, March 15, in celebration of Women’s History Month—Roberts invites famous women of varied ages, backgrounds, and experiences to come together for candid conversations. The four topics the groups explore are “grace,” “fulfillment,” “certainty,” and “community.”

Roberts, who both hosts and executive produces the series, says she was excited to engage in new dialogues with her guests—and, ultimately, connect with viewers. “We wanted to build upon what we did in Season 1 by finding some attribute that people are grappling with, that they’re having a tough time with,” she says. “We wanted to find those things that many viewers watching are having issues with, so they can see that these iconic women—many of whom they look up to—have had their struggles in reaching grace, or they’ve had their struggles in finding fulfillment. To see these examples they set forth, it makes a person who’s watching go, ‘OK, I can do this, too.’”

This season’s guests include Yaya DaCosta, Chloe Kim, Hayley Kiyoko, Loni Love, Marsai Martin, Chrissy Metz, Kelly Osbourne, Kyla Pratt, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Brooke Shields, Dionne Warwick, and Rita Wilson. Roberts thinks carefully about creating the perfect mix of women, as if she were creating a guest list for an intimate dinner party. “That’s a really good example,” she says. “It’s really tough. Well, it’s tough and it’s easy at the same time, because it’s kind of like a chess game, trying to see who would be better with whom and how they can play off of each other.” A few hit it off so well, Roberts says, that they even “exchanged contact information after we stopped rolling.”

Roberts adds that she was impressed by each of her guest’s “openness,” as well as “their willingness to pull back the curtain and be vulnerable, to know they were not only helping themselves, but they could be helping others.” Sometimes, the things they said would catch Roberts by surprise—despite knowing at the outset that they each had a story to tell. Citing one example, Roberts says she was astounded when Kim, a decorated snowboarder, revealed to the group that she’d thrown away her first gold medal. “I was a frustrated athlete growing up,” Roberts says. “I wanted to be an Olympian!” But to sit across from Kim and hear the story behind it “really spoke to me,” she continues. “And when Chrissy talked about how before she was on a hit TV show, no one wanted to sit next to her on a plane? Ooh. For her to be so open about how she’s in therapy, I was so grateful. That’s something we don’t talk about enough.”

Roberts, of course, is happy to talk about that (and more). The key to getting guests to open up, as Metz did, is trust. “They trust me to know that I’m not a ‘gotcha!’ journalist. I’m not trying to get them,” she says. “I’m just trying to provide a safe haven for them to share and to know that they’re not going to be judged. I will follow up and I will probe, but it comes from a place of genuine compassion and empathy. Many of the things they’re talking about are things that that I’ve gone through after being on this Earth all these decades. My mama taught me never to try to make myself look good at the expense of somebody else. The people I’m interviewing, they know that—and they trust me. That makes them feel more able to open up and share their stories. And I’m so grateful. It’s a privilege to be a messenger, and I think that’s what I do. I’m just relaying the messages of the people that I’m blessed to be sitting across from.”

Starring Rolls Café’s Key Lime Pie

This treat from Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort has left the menu—but it’s not forgotten! The recipe is from Starring Rolls Café, which opened with the park on May 1, 1989, and remained a popular quick-service stop until 2017. The café was known for its inviting pastry case of morning treats and individual-sized desserts, and some guests also recall its intimate outdoor patio area with umbrella-covered tables that offered a quiet spot to plan the day or take a lunch break. Now this fondly remembered dessert is featured in The Official Disney Parks Cookbook: 101 Magical Recipes from the Delicious Disney Series by Pam Brandon & the Disney Chefs.
