Mighty Ducks, The Disney’s first entry into the realm of professional sports. In 1992, the company founded the Mighty Ducks hockey team, named for the team in Walt Disney Pictures’ The Mighty Ducks, as an expansion team in the National Hockey League. They were ready for league play in the 1993-94 season, and their first exhibition game was held on September 18, 1993. They play at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California. Henry and Susan Samueli agreed to purchase the Mighty Ducks from Disney on February 25, 2005, taking Disney out of the professional sports business two years after selling the Anaheim Angels. The sale was completed on June 20, 2005.
