In 2016, Disney purchased a 33% stake in BAMTech, a video streaming and technology services company, to launch new ESPN- and Disney-branded, subscription-based streaming services. Disney increased its ownership to 75% in 2017. In 2018, BAMTech was renamed Disney Streaming Services, housing all consumer-facing digital technology and products across the company, including the direct-to-consumer ESPN+ (launched Apr. 12, 2018) and Disney+ (launched Nov. 12, 2019).
