The Goofy Success Story Debuts on TV

In this Jack Kinney-directed television special, which first aired on this day in 1955, viewers got an inside glimpse into Goofy’s rise to stardom. The program began with a look at Hollywood, the “movie capitol of the world,” where a group of similarly styled talent scouts are tirelessly searching high and low, left and right for the next superstar. Goofy then shows up—hungry and almost broke—and decides to go see his favorite actor, Mickey Mouse, in the local theater for 15 cents.  It is there, while laughing, that he is “discovered.” Laughter is contagious, after all. From there, several of Goofy’s cartoons—Moving Day, Moose Hunters, How to Ride a Horse, and Motor Mania—are shown during the program, which was aired as part of the Disneyland and Walt Disney Presents TV series. The Goofy Success Story was released theatrically abroad.
