Eyes in Outer Space is Released

The theatrical featurette Eyes in Outer Space was first launched into theaters on this day in 1959. After showing authentic footage of the powerful force of weather, audiences learned how satellites, eyes in outer space, were used to track and forecast weather patterns. Included in this documentary is an animated cartoon segment with jazzy music by Disney Legend George Bruns, and narrated by Disney Legend Paul Frees, depicting how weather can affect our moods and how it has fueled many superstitions. In addition to a very realistic dramatization of a weather station, this featurette proved to be, as the ads touted, “The Great Adventure Behind the Satellites.”
