José Carioca Also known as Joe Carioca, Donald Duck’s Brazilian parrot pal, first appearing in Saludos Amigos (1943), voiced by José Oliveira. The name came from the Portuguese word which is used to refer to a native of Rio de Janeiro, “carioca.” The character was so popular he was brought back in The Three Caballeros in 1945. He also starred in a newspaper comic strip for two years.
