I’m Going to Disney World

I’m Going to Disney World In 1987, following up on a suggestion by Michael Eisner’s wife, Jane, Tom Elrod and his Walt Disney World marketing staff came up with the idea of asking quarterback Phil Simms on camera as he ran off the field, “Now that you’ve won the Super Bowl, what are you going to do next?”  “I’m going to Disney World!” was the reply.  Thus began a popular series of television commercials that has continued for over a decade and a half.  Besides the stars of each ensuing Super Bowl, subjects have included champions from other sports such as baseball, basketball, and the Olympics, and even included Miss America in 1988 and a group of college graduates in 1990.  Almost every commercial has been filmed twice; once for Walt Disney World, and once for Disneyland.
