Aladdin

Aladdin A stage musical version of the animated film, helmed by Casey Nicholaw, opened at Seattle’s 5th Street Theater in July 2011. It was intended for licensing to professional and regional theater groups. After that well-received pilot production, along with two others in Utah and Missouri, work began on an entirely new version for Broadway—with new script, reordered songs, and an original set design. This show opened in a pre-Broadway engagement at the Ed Mirvish Theater in Toronto on November 13, 2013. The show, with Alan Menken resurrecting songs he had originally written with Howard Ashman for the film, began Broadway previews on February 26, 2014, at the New Amsterdam Theater, and had its official opening on March 20. Stars included Adam Jacobs (Aladdin), James Monroe Iglehart (Genie), and Jonathan Freeman reprising his film role of Jafar.
