There’s a lot to look forward to from around the worlds of Disney this very weekend—whether you’re a lover of hilariously grainy, circa 2000s home movies sent in by viewers like you, or brand-new animated short-form series featuring fresh and fun characters… who just happen to be of the undead variety. So take a break from your pool parties and lazy lake-lounging and sink into your favorite spot on the couch—we’ve got some quality “things to watch” in store:

While we wait for the latest season of the long-running series to come to ABC, relive some belly laughs of yesteryear with America’s Funniest Home Videos, Seasons 20 through 22—hosted by the always delightful Tom Bergeron—now streaming on Disney+! These “new” seasons join Seasons 18 and 19, which means you can revel in some nostalgic home video clips from circa 2007 to 2011. Guaranteed someone will fall off a trampoline, have a mishap with Christmas lights, and/or get a pie to the face.

ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series Shorts is an animated short-form series that continues the adventures of fan favorites Zed (voiced by Milo Manheim), Addison (voiced by Meg Donnelly), and the Seabrook crew from the hit ZOMBIES franchise. The shorts, which keep the spirit and jam-packed music of the movies, find the friends encountering new monsters—a carnivorous plant monster, horrifying mega-cricket, and even evil clones—while dealing with school and new experiences like a never-ending summer time loop.

This new series—recommended for mature audiences only—kicks off with two episodes, and follows Petey (voiced by Annie Murphy), a New York City “it” girl who seems to have it all until her life comes crashing down around her. As luck would have it, though, a mysterious gift from her father gives her a new lease on life: She’s going to “lean into” modernizing his small-town cult. The series, which will stream on Hulu following its premiere each week on Freeform, also features the voices of John Cho, Kiersey Clemons, Stephen Root, Amy Hill, and Christine Baranski.

Where is the Hellfire Gala?
Okay, so we know D23’s real-life Hellfire Gala is happening in San Diego, but where do the mutants gather in the comics to strut their stuff?

Krakoa is a living island that has agreed to be a safe haven for mutants, making it the perfect location for the Hellfire Gala. Called “The Island that Walks Like a Man,” Krakoa is believed to have developed transmutations thanks to nearby nuclear experiments. In the past, Krakoa has battled against our favorite heroes, but now the island has entered a new era of safety for mutantkind. Everything New You Can Stream on Disney+ in August 2023

From the premieres of two Star Wars’ series to the final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Disney+ has a lot in store for August.

On Wednesday, August 2, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures will have new episodes streaming on Disney+. Set during The High Republic, Jedi younglings Kai, Lys, and Nubs are sent by Master Yoda to train at a Jedi temple on the world of Tenoo.

Audiences seeking more Star Wars content won’t have long to wait. On Wednesday, August 23, viewers will be treated to the two-episode premiere of Star Wars: Ahsoka. Set after the fall of the Empire, the show follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. The third episode of the series will be released on Wednesday, August 30.

Earlier in the month, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will premiere on Wednesday, August 9, with all episodes of Season 4 available to stream. The final season of the series will center around the Wildcats preparing a stage production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Their plans are disrupted whenPrincipal Gutierrez announces that Disney is making the long-awaited High School Musical 4: The Reunionmovie at their beloved high school. 

LEGO® Disney Princess: The Castle Quest will premiere Friday, August 18. In this all-new special, Tiana, Moana, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Ariel are unexpectedly transported to a mysterious castle and discover that Gaston has hatched an evil plan to take over all their kingdoms! The Disney Princesses must work together to tackle challenges and try to save their kingdoms from Gaston.

Ending the month, new episodes of Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life Season 2 will be released on Wednesday, August 30. In their big city park, Chip and Dale are as eager as ever to increase their acorn stash but their tumultuous dynamic makes it hard for things to ever go right.

The weather is warm, the beaches are full, and the grills are ready for all your favorite dishes… but that doesn’t mean there isn’t also time for some quality viewing from around the worlds of Disney! After all, those favorite streaming devices can often go wherever you do! (Although truth be told, who doesn’t love a nice, cool indoor sojourn on the couch after a hot summer day? We’re big fans.) This weekend, we’re heavy on the documentary tip, with a new National Geographic travel series, a look at an incredible true-life jewel thief, a concert by a certain Grammy Award®-winning band, and so much more…

This amazing new series debuts on both streaming services after premiering on NatGeo last weekend. Travel journalist Jeff Jenkins didn’t step foot on a plane until he was 20 years old—but once he did, he started living by his mantra, “Life begins where your comfort zone ends.” His mission is to inspire those who look like him to travel without fear and push past their perceived limitations to experience everything the world has to offer. Never Say Never follows Jenkins as he travels the world testing the limits of his physical abilities… from attempting to climb 70-foot mountain faces, to rafting class 5 rapids, to sailing in a windstorm at the end of the world. Throughout his global odyssey, Jenkins makes deep connections with locals and learns not just about the world, but also about himself.

Far from the days of playing in dive bars and casinos across the Las Vegas Strip, Imagine Dragons returns home to perform at the city’s largest stage, Allegiant Stadium, in a triumphant concert film that showcases the band’s rise to fame and the city that helped shape their sound. Featuring band members Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, and Daniel Platzman, and directed and produced by Matt Eastin.

Disney Entertainment Earns 163 Primetime Emmy® Award Nominations

Disney Entertainment proudly announces 163 nominations for the 75th Primetime Emmy® Awards across its content brands and studios, including ABC, ABC News Studios, Disney Branded Television, Disney+, Disney Television Studios (20th Television Animation, 20th Television, and ABC Signature), FX, FX Productions, Hulu, National Geographic, Onyx Collective, Searchlight Pictures, Searchlight Television, and Walt Disney Studios (20th Century Studios, Lucasfilm Ltd., Marvel Studios, and Walt Disney Pictures). Disney’s streaming platforms earned a total of 104 nominations, with Hulu and Disney+ receiving 64 and 40 nominations, respectively.

Disney Television Studios’ 54 nominations lead across all Disney content brands and studios. ABC earned 28 nominations—the most of any broadcast network—including Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s 12th consecutive nomination for Outstanding Variety Talk Series. Hulu received a total of 64 nominations between its Hulu Originals and exclusive FX series premiering on the streamer, as well as FX’s Atlanta and The Old Man and ABC and 20th Television’s Abbott Elementarydebuting on the service following their network premieres.

Walt Disney Studios received 40 nominations, including three for Outstanding Television Movie: Prey, which marks 20th Century Studios’ first-ever Emmy nomination; Searchlight Pictures’ Fire Island; and Walt Disney Pictures’ Hocus Pocus 2. Lucasfilm Ltd. received 23 nominations across a record-high four titles: Andor, Light & Magic, The Mandalorian, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, with the latter marking the Studio’s first-ever limited series nomination. Overall, Disney+ earned 40 nominations, including three for Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel.

Disney Branded Television received eight nominations, including Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. The latter special and Dancing with the Stars are the first live programs streaming on Disney+ to receive Emmy nominations, with Disney Legend Elton John becoming one step closer to completing his EGOT and judge Derek Hough now having the most Emmy nominations for choreography. John previously won Grammy®, Oscar®, and Tony® awards for his Disney-produced content.

FX received 37 nominations in total. The Bear’s 13 nominations beat FX’s record for a freshman comedy series, including first-ever nominations for creator Christopher Storer and performers Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, and Jon Bernthal. Welcome to Wrexham—FX’s first foray into reality series—received six nominations, including the first-ever Emmy nominations for both Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

National Geographic earned eight nominations, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series for Secrets of the Elephants and Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking for The Territory.

ABC News received its first-ever Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields and ABC News Studios’ and Onyx Collective’s Aftershock. Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields was nominated for two awards, Outstanding Directing for a Documentary Nonfiction Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program, while Aftershock was nominated for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking.

The Hulu Original Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi received its first series nomination, while Padma Lakshmi currently holds 13 nominations. Mel Brooks received his 14th overall Primetime Emmy nomination; he is nominated for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for 20th Television and Searchlight Television’s History of the World, Part II. Martin Short received his 15th Emmy nomination and his second nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category for 20th Television’s Only Murders in the Building; Ingrid Michaelson not only received her second Emmy nomination overall, but her second nomination for a Hulu miniseries, with ABC Signature’s Tiny Beautiful Things.

In its first year of eligibility, Onyx Collective received four Emmy nominations, owing to its new slate of television programming for Hulu. Three of those nominations are for the Hulu Original The 1619 Project (Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program, and Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Program). The fourth nomination is for ABC News Studios and Hulu Originals’ Aftershock.

Searchlight Pictures’ Fire Island was also nominated in the Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category, while Searchlight Television earned two nominations for History of the World, Part II: Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming and Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for Brooks.

13 Things to Watch During Disability Pride Month 2023

This July marks the 33rd anniversary of Disability Pride Month, and we are celebrating the diversity and intersectionality of those with disabilities within The Walt Disney Company and beyond. As part of this year’s observance, we’ve amassed a selection of creative content available to watch on Disney’s streaming platforms, social channels, and linear networks. From the first Deaf Super Hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to inclusive animated series, there’s sure to be something that captures your interest.

Eternals—Available on Disney+
Deaf actress Lauren Ridloff plays speedster Makkari in Eternals (2021), joining a star-studded cast and making history as the first Deaf Super Hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, which features an exciting new team of Super Heroes—ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years—follows the events of Avengers: Endgame. “Being cast as a powerful entity who happens to be Deaf is groundbreaking,” Ridloff told D23. “Finally, the world sees how I exist as a Deaf individual. My strengths are different than most and have a place here in this universe.”

Alaqua Cox made her MCU debut as Deaf Indigenous Tracksuit Mafia leader Maya Lopez, who is determined to make Clint Barton pay for his own vengeful deeds, in Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye, which debuted on Disney+ in 2021. Cox, who is a Deaf, Native American amputee, will reprise her role in Echo, coming exclusively to Disney+ later this year. “I’m amazed with Marvel because they are doing such a great job with diversity and representation,” she told D23. “It means so much to me because I feel like kids with all types of cultures and disabilities deserve to have more role models that look like them… Representation matters more than we know.”

Firebuds—Available on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney+
Since its debut, the Disney Junior animated series Firebuds has introduced several disabled characters within the setting of its fantastical world where talking vehicles live, work, and play with the humans who drive them. These include recurring character Jazzy (voiced by disabled actress Lauren “Lolo” Spencer, who is also a wheelchair-user), a young Black girl with spina bifida whose “vroom-mate” is a wheelchair car named Piper (voiced by Emmy®-nominated disabled actress Sammi Haney), and there are several episodes that are centered around her in particular. In addition, there’s an episode by staff writer Jeremy Shipp titled “Cleft Hood,” which introduces Castor, a vehicular character with a cleft hood. The episode is inspired by Jeremy’s son Henry, who was born with a cleft lip and palate; Henry also made his voice acting debut as Castor.

“The disabled community is a group that I felt has been underrepresented in the past, so we wanted to address that in Firebuds,” said Emmy® Award-winning creator and executive producer Craig Gerber. “[In addition to creating new characters] to include more diversity, we also have individual episodes like ‘Cleft Hood.’ Our show involves medical first responders and we thought there was a great opportunity to do a story about someone who has medical issues that required hospital stays.”

The team behind Firebuds collaborated with disability representation nonprofit RespectAbility throughout the entire creative process, ensuring the language is accurate in the script and working with animators on depicting the series’ many differently-abled characters.

Disney Branded Television’s all-new animated series, geared toward kids ages 2–7, follows the adventures of a doggone hard-working construction crew led by Phinny (voiced by Yonas Kibreab)—an innovative young corgi who dreams up some of the biggest and wildest ideas to help his town of Petsburg.

Among the members of the Pupstruction crew is Roxy, who uses wheels for her hind legs and is voiced by Scarlett Kate Ferguson, who is also a wheelchair-user. While the series highlights the importance of accessibility and inclusion in several episodes, Roxy is not defined by her disability; she’s a part of the team just like everyone else. Behind the scenes, the creative team engaged in extensive conversations regarding accessibility in Petsburg. “Construction can be silly and fun—pouring concrete, knocking over walls, and doing demolition—but construction can also build things that make a difference in people’s lives,” Travis Braun, series creator and executive producer, told D23.com. “One of my favorite episodes is when the pups encounter a staircase leading to the observatory but it’s not accessible for everyone, so they strategize a way to change it.”

Lost Cities With Albert Lin—Available on Disney+
Host Dr. Albert Lin, an award-winning scientist, explorer, and amputee, takes viewers on epic quests in this docuseries from National Geographic. Combining high-tech archaeology, breathtaking visuals, and genuine exploration, the series applies 3D scanning to some of the most extraordinary sites of antiquity and brings the mysteries of the past vividly to life. Expeditions include treks to the mountaintops of Colombia, Jordan, Peru, Israel, and more.

In the Nook featuring Ellie Goldstein—Available on Disney Channel YouTube
Created for kids ages 6–14, this short-form series enlists Disney Channel stars to help deliver inclusive stories through relaxed and relevant conversations with everyday people who are making a difference in their communities and in the world. In one episode, Ariel Martin and Trevor Tordjman from the ZOMBIES franchise interview Ellie Goldstein, a British 18-year-old model with Down syndrome. Goldstein shares her journey to becoming a model and encourages kids to never give up on their dreams.

Loop—Available on Disney+
This Pixar SparksShorts features two kids at canoe camp who find themselves adrift on a lake, unable to move forward until they find a new way to connect and see the world through each other’s eyes. This film, created in consultation with the nonprofit Autistic Self Advocacy Network, broke new ground by featuring Pixar’s first nonspeaking autistic character Renee who was played by autistic actress Madison Bandy.

DuckTales: “Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!”—Available on Disney+
In this episode of DuckTales, a marooned Della Duck—a recurring character—struggles for survival against dangerous elements on the moon. After a crash left her pinned under her rocket ship, she makes the decision to amputate her own leg and create a prosthetic out of rocket materials. Determined to get back to her family on Earth, she finally rebuilds her rocket ship and returns home to meet her sons for the very first time.

The DuckTales team worked closely with the Amputee Coalition for the storyline introducing Della (voiced by Paget Brewster), the twin sister of Donald Duck and mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Richmond, an amputee himself, and Osborne-Simpson advised on everything from story and character design to character movement/gait to ensure an accurate and sensitive portrayal.

Fancy Nancy: “Nancy’s New Friend”—Available on Disney Junior
For this episode, the Fancy Nancy creative team found inspiration close to home when they set out to introduce the neurodivergent character Sean, drawing upon personal experiences with family members and friends. Sean is voiced by George Yionoulis, who was diagnosed with autism when he was 2 years old. They also consulted at length with experts from the organizations RespectAbility and Hollywood, Health & Society—all of whom offered valuable insights every step of the way. This episode premiered on April 2, 2020, and was timed to World Autism Awareness Day.

Big City Greens: “Quiet Please”— Available on Disney Channel and Disney+
In this Season 2 episode, the Greens visit the city library and hope to find a book that will spark Cricket’s interest in reading, but they quickly run afoul of a strict, eerie librarian. Determined to keep the library a quiet place, the librarian threatens to throw them out if they make any sound. Cricket’s sister, Tilly, notices two Deaf library patrons communicating via ASL, giving her the idea that her family can communicate in the same way. While Tilly is the only family member to know ASL, the Greens use that as inspiration to communicate through hand gestures and movements.

In order to ensure authentic portrayal, Big City Greens creators and executive producers Chris and Shane Houghton brought in a trio of Deaf-led ASL consultants including Delbert Whetter, a Deaf film producer and consultant; Jevon Whetter, a Deaf actor, filmmaker and ASL dialogue coach; and Justin Maurer, an ASL interpreter who is a “CODA” (child of Deaf adults). The trio not only provided guidance but also met with the creative team in-person, recording the dialogue in ASL for the animators to use as reference. The consulting team also provided assistance during development prior to production as well as publicity and promotion afterwards.

Not Dead Yet—Available on ABC and Hulu
The sitcom stars Gina Rodriquez as Nell Serrano, a broke and newly single self-described disaster, working to restart the life and career she left behind five years ago. When she lands the only job she can find—writing obituaries—she starts getting life advice from an unlikely source. In Season 1, viewers learn that Nell’s roommate Edward, played by autistic actor and comedian Rick Glassman, is neurodivergent. He and Nell learn how to better communicate and eventually become friends. In the episode “Not Friends Yet,” Nell meets Edward’s long-distance girlfriend and viewers see how Edward navigates a romantic relationship with differences in communication styles.

Will Trent—Available on ABC and Hulu
Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling Will Trent series, Special Agent Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. But now, Trent, who is dyslexic, is determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was.

The Good Doctor—Available on ABC and Hulu
Freddie Highmore stars as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who continues to use his extraordinary medical gifts at St. Bonaventure Hospital’s surgical unit. The medical drama is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.

This initiative celebrates young talent from the extensive programs and partnerships The Walt Disney Company has forged to support young people from early childhood through their first careers by providing opportunities and access they need to make their dreams come true.

Among those recently featured: Emmet Kyoshi Wilson, a successful teenage artist with Down syndrome who inspires others through his work; Victória Bueno, who—despite being born without arms—refused to let anything stop her from pursuing dance; and Tyler Gordon, a notable teenage painter and anti-bullying advocate, who is partially Deaf and stutters.

Meet the Characters of Disney’s Haunted Mansion

Disney’s frightfully fun new adventure Haunted Mansion is just around the corner… and it’s time for us foolish mortals to get comfortable with the hot and cold running chills we’re sure to encounter! Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, the film—directed by Justin Simien (a former Disneyland Park cast member)—follows Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) and her son Travis (Chase W. Dillon) as they enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their New Orleans home of supernatural squatters.

In anticipation of Haunted Mansion’s premiere on July 28, we’re taking a closer look at just who’s on the invite list for the film’s swinging wake… both living and “dearly departed”:

Gabbie is a smart, accomplished physician and mother with a young son, Travis, who sets out hoping for a fresh start in a sprawling antebellum home in New Orleans. With the best intentions, she promises Travis—who’s been having trouble making friends at school—a new adventure… which takes a decidedly unexpected turn.

“What I love about Gabbie is that this is someone very capable, very educated, who has the imagination and means to follow through on this big idea to buy a mansion,” says Dawson. “She’s a single mom who is really showing up for her kid with passion and integrity and is fully focused on thriving. At the end of the day, even when the times are tough, Gabbie’s got this tenacity that I really love that just belies circumstance. There’s just gumption to her that is a good rallying cry to the others, and it ends up bonding them as this chosen family unit.”

Father Kent is the first person Gabbie turns to when she discovers her new home is haunted. Despite his positive, optimistic outlook on life and his ecumenical garb, his “hipster” demeanor and odd comments seem, well, out of place for a clergyman.

“He’s definitely not your typical priest,” admits Wilson. “You don’t see a lot of priests running around with a hatchet. He has a very casual approach to matters of faith and specializes in exorcisms. He’s kind of a trailblazer in the field, and the skill set that he offers is unique. I don’t know if there’s another priest like him in Louisiana.”

A scientist who specializes in paranormal activities, Ben also happens to be at an existential crossroads. And despite his training in paranormal activity, he doesn’t believe that the mansion is really haunted by ghosts—so when Father Kent requests his assistance, he only agrees once payment is offered, thinking there’s easy money to be made.

Explains Stanfield, “The characters are going through some deep things. When you find my character, Ben, at the beginning of the story, he’s down on his luck, drinks too much, all while grieving the loss of his wife who has recently passed away. So, he’s trying to find answers to these unanswerable questions and has pretty much gotten to the point in life where he’s given up.”

Harriet (Tiffany Haddish)
Harriet is an eccentric French Quarter psychic who discovers that her supernatural gifts may be stronger than she ever imagined once she confronts the powerful energy swirling inside the mansion. Despite her appearance as a storefront amateur working the tourists on Bourbon Street, Harriet’s psychic lineage runs deep. But she has yet to truly master the art of the occult—and after years of questioning her lack of ability, she masks her fear of failure with a hustler’s charm.

“Harriet’s very eclectic, and her look is exotic yet refined,” admits Haddish. “She has these nails and this head wrap and these layers of clothes. Harriet likes layers. She’s like an onion, you gotta peel away at her… I’ve done my research, and I know Harriet through and through. So, when I say there’s really spirits out here, there’s spirits out here. I’m definitely taking it up a level or two and raising the bar when it comes to this character and capturing the essence of New Orleans.”

Gruff and a bit cantankerous, Professor Davis works at Tulane University and has delved into the science behind supernatural occurrences—such as spirits inhabiting physical spaces in the real world. One day, in his classroom, he’s presented with a surprising opportunity: Several strangers appear to know the whereabouts of the Haunted Mansion, which—despite endless searches and a lot of research—he’s never been able to find. Does he dare follow their lead?

“I jumped at the chance to play the part of Bruce because of [director] Justin Simien,” explains DeVito. “I’ve seen his other movies, and I love his style—funny but real—and I was really looking forward to seeing how he was going to handle this material. I think he did a great job. There’s definitely the reverence for the ride, which is really good because he included the whole feeling of the ride—but he added his own take on it, which has to do with humanity and humor and characters that you can invest in.”

As Gabbie, Travis, and their new friends investigate the mansion, they stumble upon a trunk in the attic that contains a crystal ball—which turns out to be the “home” of one of the most memorable characters in the theme park attraction: Madame Leota. Filmmakers reconceived her as an ancient psychic whose mysterious disappearance has never been solved, giving her an elaborate backstory as an Eastern European gypsy with unparalleled abilities as a medium—coupled with a penchant for salesmanship. She’s also Harriet’s personal hero!

Says Curtis, “Madame Leota is the mystery date of the movie. She is the unknown entity. She is the woman behind the crystal ball. We’ve seen her on the ride, but we don’t know why she’s in the ball. How’d she get there? Is she trapped in the ball, or does she like it there? Is it something she’s happy about or frustrated about? What’s fun about the movie is we get to explore that because she’s needed to help answer some questions about what’s going on in the Haunted Mansion… You can only imagine the joy that I expressed when my agents called me and said that they wanted me to play Madame Leota. I was born and raised in California, raised my kids here, and have probably been on that ride 25 times in my life. It was an immediate thrill.”

The Hatbox Ghost (Jared Leto)
Although most of the ghosts of the Haunted Mansion are satisfied with their existence—and are fairly benign—there are a few malevolent entities who threaten to upset the balance of power and wreak havoc on all who enter. One in particular is the Hatbox Ghost, based on a character that appears in the theme park attraction. A cloaked aristocratic spirit whose menacing demeanor, headless form, and mysterious hatbox sends the other ghosts in the mansion scattering, the Hatbox Ghost has an especially intense fixation on the house’s new residents… with ulterior motives that could trap them in the house forever.

Director Simien explains, “What’s funny about Jared is you would never know it’s Jared Leto playing the Hatbox Ghost unless someone told you. Even then, he put so much work into the character and so much thought into every choice that he makes. We worked a really long time to find things like the accent and his backstory and why he walks this way versus that way… I really believe the fans are going to feel like we did him justice and really rounded out his unworldly character—and grounded him in something that really feels real.”

Disney100: The Exhibition Heads to London this Fall

Disney100: The Exhibition—the largest exhibition the Walt Disney Archives has ever created—continues its European tour at London’s ExCeL starting October 13, 2023, in celebration of The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary on October 16. In the lead up to this very special exhibition, fans will be able to join an exclusive waitlist on July 11 to get tickets to the exhibition, which will run until 2024.

“We are incredibly excited to bring this fantastic exhibition to London,” said Becky Cline, Director, Walt Disney Archives. “We can’t wait for guests in the U.K. to experience their favorite Disney stories, characters, and attractions in new and immersive ways as we celebrate all the wonderful worlds of Disney.”

The 20,000-square-foot exhibition, only 12-minutes from Central London on the Elizabeth Line, will provide fans of all generations with the opportunity to immerse themselves and rediscover some of their favorite Disney stories in 10 magnificent and imaginatively themed galleries. With moving stories, historical artifacts, original costumes and unique interactive installations, visitors can take a mesmerizing, nostalgic, and educational journey through 100 years of The Walt Disney Company.

After previous residencies captivating audiences at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the U.S., and Munich’s Small Olympic Hall, this exhibition will provide fans in the United Kingdom with the opportunity to explore a vast array of artifacts from the Walt Disney Archives alongside many of the “Crown Jewels” from renowned classics including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to contemporary releases such as Encanto (2021), as well as the latest members of the Disney family—Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel.

With awe-inspiring memorabilia and never-before-seen works of art, visitors will be taken on a journey as they explore special behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creation of the company’s most popular characters, films, shows, and attractions—from Disneyland Paris to Walt Disney World® Resort and beyond.

In the gallery “Where Do the Stories Come From?” visitors can see the actual Dutch language prop storybook from the opening scene of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and the carousel horse from Mary Poppins (1964) which Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke rode in his role as the lovable Bert. The stunning crystal glass slipper from Cinderella (2015) will also be on display alongside original artwork from the 1950 animated classic.

In “The Illusion of Life” gallery, the original artwork for the animation of Cruella from One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) and the renowned red dress from Cruella (2021) will be showcased, conveying the fully developed personality of the “erratic and eccentric” character. Visitors will also discover more about the creation of Disney heroes, villains, and sidekicks that have inspired and entertained audiences across the globe for 100 years—from the first sketch to the finished animation.

The stories of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel invite you on a journey in “The Spirit of Adventure and Discovery” gallery, where fans can look forward to seeing Iron Man’s helmet from Avengers: Infinity War(2018), among other treasures. Of course, Disney100: The Exhibition also includes a look at Disney’s world-renowned theme parks. In the gallery “Your Disney World: A Day in the Parks,” visitors will feel as if they are standing within a version of Main Street, U.S.A., where they will see an attraction vehicle from Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland® Park and a model of the Castle of Magical Dreams for Hong Kong Disneyland® Park shine in the colorful light of fireworks.

During a visit to Disney100: The Exhibition, guests are encouraged to capture cherished moments. With a series of extraordinary backdrops and photo opportunities with some of their favorite and beloved Disney characters, fans, families, and kids can unleash their inner superhero as they take a photo with the life-sized Incredibles family from Disney and Pixar’s The Incredibles (2004), alongside photo opportunities with Mickey, Goofy, and Dopey. Kids can also test their observation skills with a series of “Did you know?” flip-style question-and-answer boards, offering child-friendly fun facts about assets found in each gallery.

It took four years to plan and assemble the artifacts for Disney100: The Exhibition, many of which will be on display for fans and Disney lovers for the first time. The majority of artifacts presented are from the collection of the Walt Disney Archives, with additional items from Marvel Studios, the Pixar Living Archives, the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, and the collections of Walt Disney Imagineering.

Open throughout the holiday season and into 2024, families and loved ones can celebrate their love of Disney’s most timeless stories. With a gift shop featuring an array of exclusive and unique merchandise, visitors can purchase gifts to mark their visit and celebrate the holiday season.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on July 18, 2023, starting from £16.50 off-peak for children.
