Universe of Energy Pavilion in Future World at Epcot; opened October 1, 1982. It was sponsored by Exxon from 1982 to 2004. On the roof of the pavilion are two acres of solar panels that generate enough electricity to power much of the attraction. Inside, guests learn about energy in a series of films and a trip into the prehistoric past. For the latter, they ride in 30,000-pound traveling theater cars, which hold 96 passengers each and are guided along a very thin wire embedded in the concrete floor. The show was updated beginning September 15, 1996, incorporating Ellen’s Energy Adventure, starring Ellen DeGeneres.
