Walt Disney Television Animation Department formed in November 1984, with Gary Krisel as president, to produce special animation for television. Their first series were Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears and The Wuzzles. A decade later, they were producing 150 half-hour episodes of programing a year, plus specials, movies, direct-to-video features, music videos, featurettes, and commercials. A Japanese branch, Walt Disney Animation (Japan), which opened in 1989, closed in 2003. See also DisneyToon Studios.
