Sign of Zorro, The (film) Theatrical compilation of several Zorro shows, released first in Japan in November 1958, and in the U.S. on June 11, 1960; an edited version was released on June 9, 1978. Directed by Norman Foster and Lewis R. Foster. Don Diego returns to the pueblo of Los Angeles after completing his schooling in Spain. At home he challenges the cruel tyranny of Monastario, becoming the secret savior of the oppressed, but outwardly playing the fop. When he is captured, he turns the tables on Monastario by revealing his true identity to his friend, the Viceroy from Spain. 90 min. Black and white. Stars Guy Williams (Zorro), Henry Calvin (Sgt.
