Mickey’s Toontown Area that opened at Disneyland on January 24, 1993. Disney designers Dave Burkhart and Joe Lanzisero looked to the Toon world and created it as the place where Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and the other Disney characters live. There is a downtown section, where guests can have fun pushing buttons, twisting knobs, and opening boxes, all leading to a comic happening—the fireworks factory explodes, the mailbox talks back, weasels make snide comments under the manhole. The Jolly Trolley transports one to the residential area, where guests can visit the characters at their houses. Some, like Goofy’s Bounce House, are limited to children only. In back of Mickey’s House, one can meet the mouse himself on the set from one of his classic cartoons. Other attractions include Gadget’s Go-Coaster and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, a zany ride through the Toon world. A Toontown opened at Tokyo Disneyland on April 15, 1996, sponsored by Kodansha, with its two main areas reversed from the ones at Disneyland.
