Blast to the Past Celebration with a parade at Disneyland in the spring of 1988 and 1989. The young Disneyland performers put on their (or perhaps their parents’) attire from the 1950s, and presented a rousing salute to the era. There was a daily parade, with period cars adding to the ambiance, and a special show, the Main Street Hop, presented on Main Street and featuring five huge jukeboxes, hula hoops, Elvis, scooter riders, and confetti. Shows featured original entertainers from the 1950s and 1960s. As part of the event, Disneyland hosted the Super Hooper Duper event, smashing the world’s record for the most persons hula-hooping at one time in one location—1,527 people gathered for the extravaganza in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
