King David World premiere concert event, opening May 18, 1997 (after three previews), for six performances, as the inaugural production at the restored New Amsterdam Theater in New York City. The musical by Alan Menken and Tim Rice retells the Old Testament story of the shepherd boy, David, who rises from his humble roots to become King of Israel. Directed by Mike Ockrent.
